Literacy and Numeracy Assessment Proposal

This project proposal aims to assess literacy and numeracy among elementary school students in San Pascual, Nueva Ecija. The proposal was submitted by Dr. Bernardo Zabala and two team members from the Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology. If approved, they will assess literacy and numeracy levels of grades 1 to 3 pupils at San Pascual Integrated School over one month. II. TECHNICAL INFORMATION

A. Rationale

Literacy and Numeracy are important as they enable children to access and make sense of many dimensions of
their world. They are important skills required in the modern world in order to coherently understand simple texts
and calculations. The purpose of this study will be an assessing the level of literacy and numeracy among Grades
1 to 3 Pupils of San Pascual Integrated School. Furthermore, a project may be proposed to help the pupils aid in
uplifting their literacy and numeracy skills.

B. Statement of the Problem

In the Philippines, the ability to read and write is a priority, so the givernment has doubled its effort in
strenghtening the literay and numeracy of the students. Despite of this, Philippines has been battling for
perennial problem of poor graduates due to lack of literay and numeracy skills. Therefore, this study will aim to
assess literacy and numeracy among Grades 1 to 3 Pupils of San Pascual Integrated School. The extension
program will conduct proper intervention to address n helping the pupils improve their literacy and numeracy
skills.
