Program Complex Diesel-RK Page 1 of 1

About  DIESEL-RK

Thermodynamic software DIESEL-RK is intended for calculation and optimization of the super- and turbocharged
internal combustion engines.
The DIESEL-RK differs from analogues that it has advanced RK-model of mixture formation and combustion
in a diesel engine, and also the tools of multiparameter optimization.

Brief history: Development of a kernel of the program DIESEL-RK was begun in 1981 - 1982. From the very
beginning the program was developed as a tool for research optimization, therefore special attention was paid to
adequacy and computation speed of the used mathematical models and algorithms, many of which being original
ones. Developers constantly work in contact with the industry engineers and make computational researches for
ICE manufacturers. For this time adequacy of the program was checked up with reference to lot of engines of
different type and purpose. Many computational methods and functions were implemented into the program on
demand of the industrial companies - users of the program which number includes the largest manufacturers of
engines in Russia.
The program DIESEL-RK is intended first of all for ICE developers and researchers, therefore the enhanced
attention is given to maintenance of convenience of work of the engineer. The input and output data are
organized thus as it is accepted in the industry.
Being professional, the program DIESEL-RK can be also used with success by beginners, students and post-
graduate students of high schools. For simplification at times labor-intensive process of data set (it is especial
empirical coefficients) in the program special tools are developed: Wizard of New Project Creation. This wizard
on the basis of the most common data on researched object will generate files of input data, using the most
known technical decisions accepted in area of propulsion engineering. Thus essentially becomes simpler not only
process of input data entering but also the most difficult stage of computational research: identification of
mathematical model. The last is especially important for the students who are not having enough experience, time
and experimental data for customizing of the program on object of research, and also for researchers who makes
express estimation of an ICE design.
The implemented tools of multiparameter optimization makes it possible to raise efficiency of the
numerical researches directed on increase of a technological level of engines.
During all of development period in this program had the most perfect mathematical models of combustion
in a diesel engine. In the current version of the program the RK-model taking into account features of the
characteristic of injection and spray dispersivity, dynamics of development of fuel sprays, interaction of sprays
with an air swirl and walls, and also orientation of jets in the combustion chamber is realized. Moreover conditions
of development of each fuel spray and formed by sprays wall surface flows, and also their interaction among
themselves are taken into account.
Calculation of NOx emission is carried out by the newest technique with using the Detail Kinetic Mechanism
(199 reactions, 33 species) for advanced engines and using the Zeldovich's mechanism (18 species) for
conventional engines.
The program DIESEL-RK includes the program "Fuel Spray Visualization". This program allows in the graphical
form to analyze a moving picture of development of fuel sprays, their interactions with walls of the
combustion chamber, with an air swirl and among themselves. The program helps to design the form of the
combustion chamber and correctly choose diameter, number and nozzle orientation for the specific characteristic
of fuel supply and intensity of an air swirl. Efficiency of each decision is estimated by fuel consumption, emission
of soot and nitrogen oxides.
