Critical Reflection Paper (30%)
There will be a total of two (2) Critical Reflection Papers due in this course. These
papers will consist of a critical response to your choice of one of two topics provided.
Each paper should be 4-5 pages long and is worth 15%
An excellent Reflection Paper responds to the assigned question(s) by providing a
critical synthesis of relevant course material along with the authors’ own insights.
Insights should be grounded in data and carefully explained so that your reader can
follow logic and see how you arrived at your conclusions.
200-1200 words, standard formatting (1-inch margins, 11-point font.)
Papers will be graded according to the following criteria:
Structure (3 marks)
• Intro outlining focus/thesis and main points
• Coherent development of points
• Conclusion
• Good sentence structure and paragraphing
Style (2 marks)
• Sound grammar
• Spelling
• Standard formatting
• Standard citation as per your program Major (be consistent!)
Course Materials (3 marks)
• Appropriate use of a range of materials
• Proper citation of direct quotes and paraphrasing
• Direct quotes not overused or overlong, and not stand alone (i.e. quotes should be
used to support author’s points, not make them without author’s explanation)

Substance (7 marks)
• Author responds to assigned question(s) and maintains this focus
• Author has clearly presented main and supporting points, and provided
evidence/examples as appropriate, and makes the argument for them
