Abstract
Reading comprehension is the ability to process text after reading it, understand it, and
identify its meaning. Reading comprehension is crucial because it helps students gain the
knowledge, skills, and experience required to become competent. Without reading
comprehension, students were at risk of failing to learn to read which resulted in poor language
exposure, a lack of early literacy activities, and insufficient instruction that negatively affected
their academic performance. Many students have had trouble with reading comprehension even
with age, they fall short in reading comprehension. Students in grade 7 from BNHS are no
exception to this problem. This group of students has the same issue as the others in that they
have encountered reading comprehension barriers. A few questions related to the topic were
presented to describe the obstacles preventing grade 7 students from precisely and methodically
understanding what they were reading. What are the barriers, coping strategies, and interventions
that could be used to help students improve their comprehension? A guaranteed answer can be
obtained using the research design, sampling technique, instruments, data-gathering procedure,
and statistical treatment that will be used for accurate data analysis and interpretation. The
descriptive design is used because it discusses the topic of identifying barriers to reading
comprehension in grade 7 students as well as the causes of the problem. According to the data
collected, students' reading comprehension was poor because they lacked vocabulary knowledge
and had poor English comprehension. Additionally, it is said that students’ best coping
mechanisms are repeatedly reading the text, the word, or the entire story to ensure
comprehension. Schools around the world struggle to recognize the characteristics of kids with
learning disabilities. The school needs to help a lot more kids who struggle with reading
comprehension and take them into account.
