The RTS led is on when the terminal equipment
requests to send via the modem. The DCD led is
S1 illuminated when the 560FSM10 detects a car-
rier signal on the line interface. The CTS led is
switched on when the carrier is being estab-
lished. CTS will be set at the same time. A
transmit delay time of 20-30ms has to be ad-
justed in CMU settings.
The DIP-switch S1 establishes the mode of op-
eration of the modem. Switch C-1 is reserved for
X3 future use. C-2 establishes a permanent carrier
1 2 3 4 on the line which is useful in a four-wire full-
duplex connection. Table 3 summarizes the car-
rier modes as stated.

minates the low frequency (LF) line NF1, which

The next three switches belong to the transmitter modem fulfills the isolation condition for a com-
amplitude (see Table 6). In a long multi-drop line munication line up to 3 kV. For a higher secure
configuration, where the modem in the central electrical isolation between modem and com-
needs a high amplification factor to receive the sig- munication line, additional separate LF signal
nal of the last modem, the transmission level of the transformers are required (see Fig. 2).
modem next to the central station can be reduced
by 20 dB with the –20dB switch. This is done to
avoid overdrive of the receiver in the central station
modem. To compensate a low-pass character of
the transmission line, the amplitude of the upper
transmission frequency can be increased by 20 %,
40 % and 60 %. If both switches 20% and 40% are
‘off’, no increasing of the amplitude takes place.
