RESEARCH I did much research for my TV Advert project and here’s what I did.
I firstly did secondary research on the product that I’d personally like to
advertise, which we didn’t end up doing, and that was Dr Pepper. I
researched what the target audience of Dr Pepper was and found out
that they’re advertised to everyone but in different ways by age group.
Younger people it was advertised as a fun drink and for older people it
was advertised as a mixer for liquor products. Furthermore, I did
secondary research to find out what our group wanted to advertise,
which we decided on Irn-Bru. I found out the target age for Irn-Bru like I
did for Dr Pepper (aged 16-24) and that they primarily targeted
Scotland and the north of England. I also found that in 2018, a petition
was formed to revert the flavour of Irn-Bru and it got 18,00 signatures.
I also did primary research of my own. This was to find out what makes
an Irn-Bru advert so we could replicate it ourselves and create
something that follows the theme of what Irn-Bru typically went for in
their adverts. I researched through 4 different Irn-Bru adverts to try and
find out what they would typically do and how we could form our advert;
this is how I found out about the conflict of flavour which is commonly
seen in their adverts. We noted what we liked, didn’t like and what we
could use in our own advert from these to form what we wanted to do.
PLANNING We did much planning in order for our recording/production
process to go smoothly. For example, we created a script
shown below and also shown is the script with everyone’s
specific lines highlighted in order for them to know what their
lines are.
Furthermore, we did a production schedule so everyone knew
when we were going to film and what we were going to do.
Also, we did a location
recce so everyone knew
where we were and what
we were going to do
alongside who to contact if
we were in trouble/if we
needed anything specific.
Also did a storyboard so everyone knew
what we were going to make the shots
look like so we all had similar ideas. We
all worked on this together to make the
best overall idea that we can.
Another piece of
organisation that we
did was the creation
of our call sheet so we all knew what we
were doing
and where,
like the
others.
Finally, the
last bit of planning we did was the
risk assessment. We had to do this
in order to complete our filming
and make sure that we were safe.
TEAM PLAYER A personal bit where I was a team player in this production was
in the pre-production documents where we all split the work
between us. We worked together to complete this task and split
the work evenly in order to get it completed faster.
PROBLEM SOLVING A problem that we faced during this was the absence of people
in our group due to illness. Firstly, it was Brian who was off ill on
the day we were originally supposed to be filming so we tried to
make-do and recast him for that day with someone else, which
didn’t work. However, we did also manage to finish off our
paperwork and continue our Weebly blog and design the set
that day until he was back. Secondly, Isaac was off due to covid
in our second day of filming (the first scene) so we had to film
without him and not feature him in that scene at the beginning.
OWNERSHIP A personal bit of me taking ownership on this production was
during the script making where I built the basic script and ideas.
I then printed off the script and highlighted all the lines for
everybody for them to learn/revise.
LEARN AND IMPROVE Something I have improved upon in this task is definitely how
you can use alternate angles in a scene to make it more
interesting and overall better. I also learnt within this how you
can record multiple times to get shots that you wouldn’t
otherwise get and to use the objects around you (like the mirror)
to do this. This definitely improved our overall production.
MEET DEADLINES I do think that I did relatively well in order to meet deadlines in
our task however there was one time in the production part of
the task where we were a little behind due to illness like I
mentioned previously. Either way we managed to complete this
task on time and we kept well to our production schedule. To
combat this week that we missed in the production part, we had
to move our schedule a further week forward and record in
times that weren’t within lessons to give us more time to
complete the production overall. (including breaks/lunches).
Be as detailed as you can with all sections of this task.
You can complete the work on this document, but ensure that you upload this
to your Professional Practice page on Weebly when completed.
Evidence required for the RESEARCH and PLANNING sections should be
clearly visible on your TV ADVERT page on Weebly.
Upload a link to your Weebly Professional Practice page on a Word document
to the submission folder on Moodle (in the Professional Practice folder) once
completed.
