Chapter 3

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This chapter present the research methodology that was used in the study. This

includes the discussion of the topics Namely: research design, research, instrument,

population of the study, and data gathering procedure.

Research Design

This study was qualitative research more particular descriptive design. It is

scientific method more of observation explanation and definition which includes

measurements experiment and modification of the hypothesis. The researchers give the

questionnaire to the respondent by respect and the respondents answer the question

honesty. After answering the questionnaire the researchers collect the questionnaire by

respect about their answer then no one else can know about their answer. Infact through

gathering the data the respondent answer well as the extent to identified the problem that

should have encountered in cooking.

Research Instrument

This study uses of the researcher made questionnaire. In the first part of the

questionnaire respondent are required to answer the profile given as to; Name, age and

sex. And the second part (II) respondents most to answer the questions given by the

researchers on the challenges encountered of cookery student in Surigao Del Norte

National High School. The questionnaires have a (10) questions to be answered by

respondents.
Population and participants of the Study.

This study was conducted in Surigao Del Norte National High School from

selected students on cookery from Grade 7 – 12. Which involved of 30 respondent of

Surigao Del Norte National High School.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researcher sent a permission letter to our beloved and respected

principal. Including the head teachers and the adviser of this subject.

Upon the approval the researcher ask for the respondent by respect to stating the purpose

of the study. Ther the researcher give the proper direction to answer the questionnaire

honestly assure the respondents with confidentiality. Further researcher more giving the

assurance of the respondents that the result of the survey will remain confidential and

know one else can know about the answered of the respondent. After (15) minutes of

answering the questions the researcher collecting the questionnaire by respect and begin

looking and analyzing the answered of the respondents.

Selecting cookery students from Grades 7-12 provides a broad age range and captures diverse experiences and challenges encountered by students at different stages of secondary education. This inclusion allows for a comprehensive analysis of how challenges may vary across different educational levels, potentially identifying specific needs and issues that are unique to particular grades. However, it may also introduce variability that could complicate data interpretation if age or education level significantly influences responses .

A single-site study limits the generalizability of findings, as results are specific to the context of Surigao Del Norte National High School and may not reflect experiences in other schools or regions. This narrow focus can provide deep insights relevant to that specific environment, yet it risks missing variations in challenges faced by cookery students elsewhere. To broaden applicability, future research might include multiple schools or regions, providing comparative data to support or contrast single-site findings .

Descriptive design in qualitative research allows for comprehensive observations and explanations of phenomena without manipulating variables. Strengths include providing a detailed understanding of the challenges faced by cookery students, enabling nuanced insights into their experiences. However, potential limitations include difficulty in establishing causation due to lack of control over variables, potential biases in self-reporting by students, and the inability to generalize findings beyond the specific context of Surigao Del Norte National High School .

Using a researcher-made questionnaire can pose challenges such as ensuring reliability and validity, as these measures are not typically standardized or previously tested. The design may introduce bias if questions are not neutrally worded. Limitations include potential lack of depth, as fixed questions may not capture all relevant experiences or views, and respondents might misinterpret questions without clarification. Developing a comprehensive questionnaire requires skill to ensure it effectively addresses research questions without ambiguity .

Interaction with school authorities is crucial for obtaining permissions needed to conduct research in an educational setting. Effective communication can facilitate data collection by ensuring smooth access to students and making logistical arrangements. It helps in gaining trust and cooperation from both teachers and students. However, bureaucratic hurdles or misunderstandings with authorities could delay the research process or limit access to participants, potentially hindering data gathering efforts .

Key ethical considerations include ensuring respondent confidentiality and obtaining informed consent from participants. By assuring confidentiality, the study builds trust, encouraging honest and open responses, which improves data quality. Informed consent through communication with participants and school authorities respects individuals' autonomy and rights, contributing to an ethical research environment. These considerations enhance the legitimacy and ethical integrity of the research outcomes .

Clear instructions help participants understand how to accurately and honestly complete the questionnaire, improving the reliability and validity of the data collected. Assurance of confidentiality is crucial as it builds trust, leading respondents to provide candid answers without the fear of retribution or embarrassment, thus enhancing the data's integrity. This practice also aligns with ethical standards, respecting participants' privacy and encouraging engagement .

To enhance data accuracy and reliability, the study could incorporate pre-testing or piloting the questionnaire to identify and fix potential issues with question clarity or bias. Triangulating data collection methods by including interviews or focus groups alongside questionnaires could provide deeper insights. Increasing the sample size or diversifying the demographic profile of participants might allow for more generalizable findings. Additionally, implementing a robust training session for data collectors could minimize inconsistencies and errors during data collection .

The research methodology in the study comprises the research design, instrument, population, and data gathering procedure. The research design is qualitative, specifically descriptive, focusing on observation, explanation, and definition to gather data. The research instrument involves a researcher-made questionnaire, which collects specific demographic information and responses to questions on challenges faced by cookery students. The population consists of 30 selected students from Surigao Del Norte National High School, Grades 7 to 12. The data gathering procedure involves obtaining permission from school authorities, ensuring respondent confidentiality, and collecting responses respectfully after providing clear instructions .

The study ensures confidentiality by assuring respondents that their answers will remain confidential and that no one else will know their responses. Honesty is encouraged through respectful communication and by explaining the study's purpose and procedures to participants. Instructions are provided to guide respondents in answering questions sincerely, and respect is maintained during questionnaire distribution and collection, reinforcing a trustworthy environment .
