A healthy population means a productive labor force that is essential to the economic progress of
the country. Inefficiencies that hinder the delivery of quality healthcare services must be
addressed to minimize health issues and maximize societal productivity. And so, technologies
and innovations are continually being developed to improve healthcare outcomes and services
for the general public.
The featured technologies aims to provide quality healthcare through development of innovative
health equipment, efficient and affordable diagnosis methods for prominent diseases, as well as
improved database management of medical records.

My Personal Reflection:
 Positive. Science, technology, and innovation can greatly improve the quality of
healthcare and quality of life in the Philippines. These advancements can lead to early
diagnosis, better treatments, and increased access to healthcare for people in remote
areas. They can also increase efficiency, lower costs, and enhance patient outcomes.
However, it's important to ensure that these advancements are implemented in an ethical
and equitable manner, so that they benefit all members of society.

My Personal Reflection:
 Technology has made everyone's life easier, faster, and less stressful. We've seen how
technology has made everything so quick in just clicking on your phone and buying,
placing orders, and even doing school-related tasks without leaving our homes in the last
few years. According to the article, the local government is considering implementing e-
BPLS, or Electronic Business Permits and Licensing System. This e-BPLS is cloud-based
software that will allow taxpayers to file for business permit renewals and new
applications online. The significance of this is that businesses will be encouraged to
invest more in a town if they can apply for permits efficiently, especially if it can be done
online. This is a great decision because we are now living in a world where technology is
so useful, relevant, and makes everything convenient and easy. It would be great if other
local governments followed suit with this type of implementation.

My Personal Reflection:
 The storm surge model is an effective tool that can benefit many countries, particularly
the Philippines. As we all know, many of the fishermen in the Philippines live near the
coast, and typhoons strike the country frequently. They occur about 15 times or more per
year. Sometimes they become super typhoons, which will undoubtedly have an effect on
sea level due to heavy rains and strong winds. These storm surge models will be very
useful to authorities in preventing potential incidents that may occur before, during, and
after a typhoon. This will also assist them in better explaining the potential dangers to the
people in a community and developing a better plan even before the typhoon makes
landfall.

My Personal Reflection:
 Renewable energy in the Philippines is generally regarded profoundly, despite the
country's challenges with energy security and rising energy demand. Many people see
renewable energy as a way to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels and address the
effects of climate change. Renewable energy projects such as solar, wind, and hydro
power are being funded by both the government and the private sector. However,
challenges remain in the implementation and scaling of these projects, such as financing,
land acquisition, and regulatory barriers. Overall, there is growing support in the
Philippines for renewable energy as a means of ensuring sustainable development and a
cleaner energy future.

 Dr. Salcedo contributed immensely to the areas of biochemistry, nutrition,
physiology. As science administrator to science policy development,
science promotion and scientific manpower development, he has
published 265 works and researches in Philippine and foreign science
journals.
 A doctor of medicine by profession, a scholar and scientist by aptitude,
educator at heart and administrator perforce, a biochemist and nutritionist
by choice. His involvement in nutrition started with Bataan Experiment,
proving that rice enrichment by thiamine and other nutrients including iron
can solve beri-beri, then a leading cause of death in the Philippines. This
experiment was considered a world classic in Public Health Nutrition and
served as a model for rice enrichment programs in other countries. In the
Philippines, it led to the passage of the Rice Enrichment Law in 1952.

Fe Del Mundo, M.D.


 Founded the first pediatric hospital in the Philippines, then Children
Medical Center, and now Fe Del Mundo Medical Center. Credited with
studies that lead to the invention of the first incubator and jaundice-
relieving device.
 In 1962, she initiated a series of experiments to determine who should be
given vaccines (antibody-inducing preparations that were in short supply
at that time), and at what age. Her clinical observations on the dengue
fever led to a fuller understanding of this disease; she has also done
studies on children’s immunization against polio, measles, and chicken
