INTRODUCTION

Poultry farming is one of the most obvious and straightforward farming enterprise
for most Filipinos. There are major advantages that are listed in poultry farming
enterprise. First, it is an agricultural business with very low capital requirement. Second,
there were good breeds that you can choose in order to succeed in the poultry farming
enterprise in the Philippines. Lastly, there is also a large and ready market for the
poultry produce be it be in meat or eggs.
However, intensive and conventional poultry farming is the most common
practice that is being adopted by business managers for the reason of meeting the
demand and address food shortage. On the other hand, organic egg production
enterprise is one of the most simple yet profitable business ventures that are being
taken for granted by multi-million industries.
Organic chickens grown in a small-scale environment to produce egg and meat
is now a natural choice for many Filipinos who are mindful of their health and the ethical
concerns of the surroundings and the community. Based from the article written by the
poultry manual, chicken grown in an environment where they are allowed as much room
as possible to express their natural behaviors, move about, and forage on the grass,
bugs and grubs tend to develop more muscles over fat and they are generally more
delicious, flavorful and more nutritious. Countless studies have shown that chicken
grown in that manner contains 30% or more of the essential nutrients that will make us
all healthy. Raising organic chicken in the backyard also means pursuing a sustainable
way of living.
Based from the data gathered from Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA)
Chicken egg production in the first quarter of 2018 increased by 7.42 percent compared
to the production in the same period of 2017. Egg production from layer chicken
comprised 84.03 percent of the estimated 130,549 metric tons total egg production and
the remaining percentage came from native chicken. Based from this, there is a huge
potential of elevating the share of organically produced chicken egg since organic
production in the Philippines is still considered in its infancy stage. Though the scope is
limited, there are indications that it is having a fast momentum and estimated to be
growing at the rate of 10 to 20 percent annually. Organic products especially those

1
crop-based product are penetrating the supermarkets with the price
ranging from 20 to 50 percent over non-organic products. The country has a greater
potential for the production processing and marketing of organically produced chicken
meat and eggs. The native-type chickens such as Paraoakan, Banaba, Bolinao,
Camarines and Darag constitute about one-half of the total chicken population in the
country and are already being raised following the requirements of organic production
systems since they possess the characteristics that are required in an organic
production system.

CHAPTER I
PROJECT SUMMARY
The project summary will include the name of the enterprise, the location, the
descriptive definition of the project, the project objectives, feasibility and highlights of the
project.

A. NAME OF ENTERPRISE
PINOY EGGOY ORGANIC FARM
Pinoy Eggoy Organic Farm was the chosen name for the enterprise since
“PINOY” generally mean Filipino which also mean native. “EGGOY” sometimes
represents a jolly young boy. It can also be read as “EGG-OY” which includes word
“OY” or “UY” which is a common term when asking for an attention. Eggoy represents
an enterprise that produces egg.

B. LOCATION
a. PRODUCTION AREA – Casa MORA Properties, Sagrada, Pili,
Camarines Sur
Production area was selected in order to separate the production from marketing
since in production we have to consider several aspects in establishing a layer
production area. It includes municipal zoning, location, distance and accessibility.

b. MARKETING AREA – Pili Public Market, Old San Roque, Pili,

Camarines Sur
Pili public market was the chosen initial market area aside from the display area
on the farm entrance to maximize the sales and bring the product closer to the
consumers in its introduction to the market. Another factor is that Pili public market has
a huge market potential for organic egg since it can accommodate large amount of
market goers. Another potential mode of marketing is the saturation drives which means
that we will go store to store to deliver the produce of the enterprise.

3
C. DESCRIPTIVE DEFINITION OF THE PROJECT
The project deals in producing organic egg which promotes a healthy
replacement for the common table egg commonly produced commercially.
The product do not focus only on egg production, rather we produce own feed
and supplement that will certify that the product is organic. This feed and supplement
production can also be a source of staple food. We also offer trainings or tutorials for
interested individual or organization who wanted to make their own business venture.

D. PROJECT OBJECTIVES
The general objective of the study is to determine if the production of organic
chicken egg in Pili, Camarines Sur is feasible.
Specifically, it aims to do the following:
To provide quality and affordable organic egg that will serve as substitute
to all-time favorite breakfast of every Filipinos.
To produce healthy and nutritious egg that will lessen the effect of the
common allergens it contain that limits the consumers in eating it and will
bring back their cravings in the egg containing foods.
To promote sustainable agricultural enterprise without compromising the
environment’s safety.
To deliver additional services to farm enthusiast by creating extension
program to target stakeholders.
To provide livelihood program to the community nearby.

E. FEASIBILITY CRITERIA
Since the feasibility study was designed for an income generating enterprise, the
first two criteria were the profitability and sustainability of the project. Then, considering
that the production is organic, we are going to include the impact to the environment, to
the community, and to the entire agriculture sector in the Philippines as part of the
criterion.

4
F. HIGHLIGHTS OF THE PROJECT
a) HISTORY
Three college colleagues met unplanned, talked a bit, and came up talking about
the previous plans during their college years in becoming a business partners. They
came up with the idea of establishing an integrated organic farm. They have decided to
start with an organic layer production since they all know that this is the most profitable
and easy to maintain project in an integrated farming.

b) TIMETABLE
The project will last for five (5) years or a series of two sets of stock placement
since Ready-to-lay layer stock will only be productive up to the period of two (2) years.

c) NATURE OF THE INDUSTRY

As of present time, very few were certified producers of organic egg in the locality
and this is because few or none were practicing organic farming since they were all
practicing a conventional farming system especially those that operates commercially.
In terms of the supply and demand, demand is relatively high but the supply doesn’t
meet it which makes an adjustment in its selling price.
The possible problems that might be encountered in the production is the
certification that might be needed since source of commercial organic feed is limited to
almost none in the market. The potential is that we can formulate our own ration and
supplements not just to address the feeding issues but also it may serve as another
potential enterprise tied along with the organic egg production.

d) MODE OF FINANCING
As of the moment, there were already three (3) investors agreed to the terms and
conditions of the enterprise, two of them pledged an amount of Php 3,000,000 each to
and Php 4,000,000 for the other one to gain a total of 10 million pesos as their initial
investments and have a 30%, 30% and 40% share in the enterprise.

5
e) TOWS ANALYSIS
THREATS
Possible competition if proven profitable.
Cancellation of Organic Certificates if mismanaged.
May not be accepted by some consumers
Production site may be susceptible to contamination of diseases if biosecurity is
not properly implemented.
OPPORTUNITIES
Huge potential in terms of product processing and innovation.
Wide range of market for expansion.
Conversion from traditional to conventional production.
WEAKNESSES
﴿ High price compared with ordinary table egg.

MARKET ASPECTS

The market aspects of the study will consist of first, is the product description
which consist of the name, features, uses, major user of the product and the
geographical areas of dispersion. Second is the nature and extent of the market which
consist of the past demand and supply, projected demand and the proposed market
share and selling price. Finally, the marketing strategies that includes the market,
channel of distribution, pricing and terms of sale, packaging and the promotion.

I. Product Description
The product description of the study will consist of the name of the product, its
features, uses, major users and the geographical areas of its dispersion.

A. NAME OF THE PRODUCT

The enterprise will focus on producing organically produced egg through free-
range farming. The product will be named “Pinoy Eggoy Organic Egg”.

B. FEATURES OF THE PRODUCT

Organic chicken egg is a product which came from an organic free range chicken
farm managed to produce eggs. It is proven that chickens that are grown in this manner
contain 30 percent or more of the essential nutrients. Several research proved that
organically produced egg is more nutritious, flavorful and more delicious.

7
On the other hand, egg that is organically produced has a
significant difference in the viscosity of egg white and lively orange color of the yolk
when compared with the ordinary egg which is watery and frankly. Organic egg claimed
that it is an anti-biotic free product and the hens do not consume animal and fish buy
product in their feed that sometimes causes the fishy taste.

C. USES OF THE PRODUCT

Eggs are very much in vogue mainly because that it is known to be a source of
high protein. Egg is also an essential and versatile ingredient critical for many baked
goods, excellent for breakfast in all its forms (boiled, poached, fried and scrambled),
and a key ingredients to so many delicious and nutritious dishes like leche flan with the
yolk and meringue or mousse with egg whites.

D. MAJOR USERS OF THE PRODUCT

Eggs are being used mainly as boiled or fried on a breakfast plate of a typical
Filipino family and even in famous hotels, resorts and restaurants. Aside from this,
several food producers uses egg as the main ingredients in their goods and baked
products.

8
E. GEOGRAPHICAL AREAS OF DISPERSION
The produced egg of the enterprise will be distributed mainly on the local public
market egg retailers. To maximize and spread the distribution of the produce, saturation
team will also be deployed to deliver the goods on sari-sari stores and satellite markets
of different barangays and also to different school canteens in order not only to gain
profit but also to promote and establish popularity of the product.

II. Nature and Extent of Market

2018 95,613 57,367 139 7,974,013

Table 1 shows the demand for organic chicken egg for the past 5 years in the
municipality of Pili in Camarines Sur. Based on the data gathered by the proponents
from the Philippine Statistics Authority, population for the past 5 years are listed above
and the per capita consumption of organic chicken egg is 98 eggs only. It is assumed
that the number of population came from the average population growth of the past
conducted census of population from 1995 to 2015 which is +2.21 percent and 60% of
the total population is consuming organic chicken egg.

9
B. PAST SUPPLY
Based on the information gathered by the proponent, there is no available
producer of certified organic chicken egg in the target municipality, hence majority of the
supplies found in the market came from other municipalities and provinces. However
supply of ordinary table egg is very much abundant since layer poultry producers are
thriving in nearby municipalities. For this reason, the proponents are very sure that they
can still penetrate the market and even has a very wide room for market expansion in
the future.

C. DEMAND AND SUPPLY ANALYSIS
Table 3
Demand and Supply Analysis
Present Demand Present Supply Unsatisfied
(2019) (2019) Supply
8,150,265 786,000 7,364,265

Table – shows that the present (2019) demand of egg in the municipality reaches
8,150,265 eggs while based from the survey, the present supply of egg that are present
in the market is only 786,000 egg. Therefore, data states that there is a huge shortage
in the supply of egg in the market that reaches the number of 7,364,265 eggs. However,
the data stated in the study, specifically the present supply do not show accurate figures
since the survey focused only on selected egg supplier in the market and not the actual
number of egg suppliers. Also, respondents from the survey only gave their assumption
or estimated figures since they do not keep records of their sales and delivery.

D. PROJECTED DEMAND
Since the proponents assumed that they can reach at least 20 percent of the
total supply shortage and was estimated to increase by 20% yearly, the projected
demands for the next five years were as follows:
Table 4
Demand for the Next 5 Years
Year Demand (pcs)
I (2020) 1,472,853
II (2021) 1,767,423
III (2022) 2,120,908
IV (2023) 2,545,090
V (2024) 3,054,108

11
Assumption:
Market share is assumed to be 20 percent in the first year of operation and will
be expected to increase by 20 percent yearly.

E. PROPOSED MARKET SHARE AND SELLING PRICE

V (2024) 2,435,789 10.35 10.87 11.41 11.98 11.15

Assumption:
Average selling price will increase by 10 percent annually while 5% will increase
in the price per size upgrade (small, medium, large and XL/jumbo) of the egg.
Selling price of ordinary table egg P 5.00 (PSA)
Selling price of duck egg P 7.00 (PSA)
Selling price of organic egg in other market P 9.17 (Marketman,2015)
Average Selling Price P 7.06
The selling price of the product will come from the average selling prices of
ordinary table egg, duck egg and the current market price of existing organic egg in
some areas on its first year of operation. It will be expected to increase by 10 percent
every year.
Since the production capacity of nearby producer is non-listed, the proponent
decided to have a market share of 20 percent of the projected demand on its mutual
year of operation.

12
III. Marketing Strategies

A. MARKET
Organic chicken egg producer of nearby municipalities and province sells their
produce to local public market egg retailers via wholesale therefore, the sari-sari stores
which are the main shop of the consumers in different villages and barangays of the
municipality was not totally saturated with the product.
The following factors should be considered by the prospective organic egg
producer.
1. Climate and weather condition affect the health of the flock.
2. Supply and demand of the substitutes such as ordinary table egg and duck
egg, and
3. The volume of supply of ordinary table egg from nearby municipalities.

B. CHANNEL OF DISTRIBUTION
The proponent will use one-level channel which contains one selling
intermediary.
MARKET DISTRIBUTION CHANNEL

PRODUCER

RETAILER

CONSUMER

C. PRICING AND TERMS OF SALE

The proponent will sell the product at a slightly lower than that of the current
supplier since less transportation cost is a huge aspect to consider. The current price is
at Php. 9.17/pc and it will be sold by the proponent for Php 84.72, 88.92, 93.36, 98.04
per dozen of small, medium, large and xl/jumbo sizes respectively or Php 211.80,

13
222.30, 233.40 and 245.10 per tray of small, medium, large and
xl/jumbo sizes respectively. It will be sold on cash, consignment or one-up one- down
basis.
The criteria that need to be reiterated to the retailers in order to avail the said
terms are the following:
Cash basis if the retailers do not have a permanent market stall or they are
selling using cart or movable spaces. Their weekly purchase was limited to up to 3 trays
only and if they use the product as input to other products such as cakes and pastries.
Consignment and one-up-one-down agreement on the other hand were given to
market stall owners who can purchase up to the volume of 30 trays per week. These
agreements will also be depending on the approval of the retailers since not all the
businessmen wanted to have a debt on their suppliers.

D. PACKAGING
Organic chicken egg will be packed in paper egg trays since Pinoy Eggoy
organic egg promote environmental sustainability hence plastic is not an option.
Normally, a tray of egg contains 30 pieces of eggs but the enterprise will create an
option in terms packaging. Retailers and consumers may choose between 1 dozen and
1 tray packaging. Labels will be made of environment friendly materials such as paper
or recycled board.

14
15
16
17
E. PROMOTION
The product will be promoted through proper labeling and tagging to make it eye-
catching to prospected retailers and consumers. Pumplets, brochure and tarpaulin will
also be provided which will serve as additional type of promotion. Also by providing
them a cooked samples of the product on events such as opening, marketing and also
for first time buyers.

CHAPTER III

TECHNICAL ASPECTS

A. PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The produced egg will be sorted according to the standard sizes of a regular
table egg from peewee to extra-large. The color should white to brown and possess a
characteristic that the shell is thick and sturdy. It should be free from cracks, blood and
manure stains. These characteristics will presume that the product and the enterprise
strictly follow the standards being stated in the organic agriculture program.

B. BREED TO BE USED
The organic egg production enterprise will use a variety of good laying hens and
are also capable of producing meat as well like the Rhode Island Red and New
Hampshire breeds. It will follow the ratio of 1 rooster for every 10 hens to maximize the
productivity of the flock. The chicks will came from the local poultry breeding farm in
Ocampo, Camarines Sur. It will be purchased for P 40.00 per piece.

20
C. PRODUCTION PROCESS

specialist in the particular fields.

21
ii. Chicken Stocks
The 6,000 day-old chicks will be provided by the local breeding farm in Ocampo
Camarines Sur. Upon arrival in the farm, they will be grown and managed according to
the management practice approved by the Philippine National Standard on Organic
Agriculture (PNS-OA) of chicken until they reach the age of puberty. They will be given
a self-formulated feed and supplements according to the requirement of their
physiological age.

iii. Feeding Management

When the flock reaches the age of puberty, they will be managed according to
the stated management practice in the PNS-OA on organic chicken for egg production.
They will be housed at night giving them the self-formulated organic feed and
supplements while they will be allowed to forage on grass, insects, and grubs during the
day. Water will always be available all the time.

iv. Egg Collection and Sorting

Egg collection will be done manually every day from their nest at around
10:00am to 1:[Link] egg collection, egg sorting will immediately follow. It will be
done by indirect employees from the community. Egg sorting scale will be used to make
sure the sizing and grading of the eggs will be accurate and reliable.
After egg sorting and grading, eggs will be stored at the egg storage area before
it will be delivered to the market and to the different costumers. First-in first-out strategy
will be applied to avoid spoilage of the produced egg.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS
The following are the findings of the study:
1. The target market of the proponent is the Municipality of Pili, Camarines Sur.
Based on the information gathered by the proponent from the research the per
capita consumption of ordinary table egg is 139 pcs and 60% of the total population
consumed eggs.
Since there is no available producer of organic or commercial egg in Pili,
Camarines Sur, the current supply are coming from nearby municipalities therefore the
proponent decided to have a market share of 20 percent of the projected demand on
the initial year of operation.

39
2. The project deals in producing organic egg which promotes a
healthy replacement for the common table egg commonly produced
commercially.
The product do not focus only on egg production, rather we produce own feed
and supplement that will certify that the product is organic. This feed and supplement
production can also be a source of staple food. We also offer trainings or tutorials for
interested individual or organization who wanted to make their own business venture.
Preferably, the production area should be located near or within the target
municipality. The production area will be situated at Casa MORA Properties, Sagrada,
Pili, Camarines Sur.
3. The intended organization set-up for this project is corporation. This is preferred
by the proponent since the needed initial capital is quite high hence, investors
are needed.
4. Based on the projected income, the project will earn 635,840 , 7,765,6402
992,580 , 9,537,920 and 13,473,440 on the period of five years of operation
respectively.
5. The organic egg production industry will offer a good opportunity to the
enterprising individual. It will be rewarding for the member of the community who
lacks of individual livelihood.
Among the major contributions that the proposed projected on organic egg
production offers would be as follows:
a. Industry will promote significantly in the sustainable agriculture.
b. It will provide immediate employment and livelihood to the community.
c. It will increase demand on raw materials needed especially on forages and
other feed source.
d. The project will generally put additional supply of quality egg in the market.

Common questions

The proposed management structure of the organic egg enterprise is a corporation setup due to the high initial capital investment required, which includes a board of directors, a president, a manager, supervisors, and workers. Each role is tasked with specific responsibilities aimed at promoting financial and socio-economic sustainability. Potential challenges include the need for effective coordination among diverse stakeholders, maintaining product quality standards, and managing personnel across multiple levels, which can complicate decision-making and operational efficacy .

The specific equipment and tools required include delivery vehicles, furniture and fixtures, egg sorting scales, trays, collecting baskets, cleaning materials, and miscellaneous tools. The total initial capital investment in equipment is estimated at 342,700 pesos. These tools are essential for efficient production and logistics management, and their costs must be carefully managed to optimize the use of capital and ensure the enterprise's financial sustainability .

Environmental considerations in the organic egg production system include sustainable waste management practices to minimize pollution, maintaining biodiversity by avoiding synthetic pesticides and chemicals, and utilizing renewable energy sources to reduce carbon footprint. Ensuring biosecurity measures to prevent disease outbreak is also crucial. These practices are essential for reducing the environmental impact and aligning with organic certification standards .

Financial projections for the organic egg production project show a progressive increase in net income from 635,840 pesos in Year 1 to 13,473,440 pesos by Year 5, indicating a steady growth trajectory. The expected return on investment (ROI) indicates a significant increase over the years, starting at 10.97% in Year 1 and escalating to 232.55% by Year 5. This suggests high profitability potential and long-term financial viability, making the project an attractive investment opportunity .

Opportunities for Pinoy Eggoy Organic Farm include product processing and innovation, market expansion, and conversion from traditional to conventional production. Threats involve potential competition if the venture is profitable, loss of organic certification if mismanaged, possible non-acceptance by some consumers, and the risk of disease contamination if biosecurity is not properly implemented .

The location of Pinoy Eggoy Organic Farm contributes to its marketing strategy by being in close proximity to Pili Public Market, which has a large market potential for organic eggs. Additionally, the farm is located at Casa MORA Properties in Sagrada, Pili, Camarines Sur, which separates production from marketing activities. This strategic positioning allows for saturation drives to go store to store, enhancing market outreach and product introduction efficiency .

The organic egg production project has several socio-economic implications for the local community. It promotes sustainable agriculture, provides immediate employment opportunities, and contributes to livelihood improvement. The project is expected to increase the demand for raw materials such as forages and other feed sources, augmenting local economic activity. Additionally, the municipality will benefit from increased tax revenue, and consumers will access healthier product options .

The production capacity of the organic egg farm begins with a 50% laying rate in the first month, leading to an increase to about 80% as hens mature. This results in a maximum production of 4,800 eggs per day, translating to 1,728,000 eggs annually. Projected sales over five years are expected to rise from initial figures of 6,429,600 eggs in Year 1 to 19,267,200 eggs by Year 5, reflecting increased production and market expansion .

The feasibility criteria for the organic egg production project in Pili, Camarines Sur, include profitability, sustainability, impact on the environment, community, and the entire agricultural sector in the Philippines. These criteria are part of ensuring the project is viable not only economically but also environmentally and socially .

The pricing strategy of the organic egg production considers market demand and cost structures. The average cost per egg is projected to increase yearly, with an anticipated rise from 7.60 pesos in Year 1 to 11.15 pesos in Year 5 due to inflation and increased production costs. This strategy reflects adjustments necessary to align with existing market dynamics, ensuring the enterprise remains competitive despite higher operational costs compared to traditional egg production .
