The event mainly focuses on setting up a basic coding environment on the
participants' system, which will be especially useful to the newer batches or anyone
who wishes to start coding in general. Also, we will install a few other tools to make
their life easy.

Eligibility
The session is targeted towards beginners and, as such, has no prerequisite. Anybody
willing to participate can join.

Why Should You Attend This Session?

This event will introduce the participants to VS Code and how it can be used for
various tasks, from Python to Jupyter Notebooks and much more. We will install
python in your system, a must for Introductory courses at our institute. We are also
planning to introduce the participants to the basics of Git and GitHub.

So what are these tools everyone keeps talking about ? glad you asked.

Visual Studio Code is a popular source code editor that can be used with various
programming languages. Out of the box, Visual Studio Code includes basic support
for most common programming languages. This basic support includes syntax
highlighting, bracket matching, code folding, and configurable snippets.

When appropriately configured, VS Code can turn out to be a very powerful tool that
can increase the productivity of the person using it.

Python is one of the most popular programming languages in the scientific


community and the coding community in general. There are a lot of resources
dedicated to this technology which has led to the development of many
open-source tools based on this language.

Most of the tools you will encounter in your scientific carrier will be python based.

Git is a free and open-source distributed version control system designed to handle
everything from small to very large projects with speed and efficiency. GitHub is an
Internet hosting service for software development and version control using Git. It
provides the distributed version control of Git plus access control, bug tracking,
software feature requests, task management, continuous integration, and wikis for
every project.
