Guided Exercise – Editing Geometry
Goals:
1. Make design changes to an existing part
2. Practice Editing Sketches and Editing Features to
better understand how each affects the model
3. Use a shortcut method for editing geometry
Instructions:
1. Download [Link] from the link below, and open the part file

2. In this exercise you will be changing the profile shape as well as the thickness of the part. Let's begin by
changing the profile shape of the design by editing the sketch. To do this, right-click on the Extrusion
located in the browser, and select Edit Sketch

3. Double click on the width dimension and change the value to 350mm. Change the radius dimension to
80mm as shown here
4. Click the Finish Sketch icon in the corner and notice how the part updates the changes
5. Next, let's edit the overall thickness of the part. The value for the thickness is controlled by the Extrude
feature distance. Right-click on the Extrusion in the browser, and select Edit Feature
6. Type in 150mm for the distance, and click OK to accept the changes

7. Now that you have some practice editing sketches and editing features to make design changes, let's
take a look at the shortcut method for making changes like this. Click anywhere on the Extrusion in the
design window, and you have the option to edit the feature, edit the sketch, or start a new sketch.
8. Select Edit Sketch and change the 150mm height dimension to 200mm. Click the Finish Sketch icon to
update the part
Self-Check:
1. Check the mass of the Part by right-clicking on the part name in the browser, select iProperties, and
switch to the Physical tab. Click Update. Does the part Mass = 63.051 Kilograms?
If so, Good job!
If not, make sure that the material is set to Steel (this option was set in the exercise part that
you should have opened at the beginning of the exercise).
