Pathfit 1 Module 3: Strength Training

This document provides an overview of Module 1, Lesson 1 of the PATHFIT curriculum, which focuses on the benefits of basic strength training exercises for the lower extremities. The lesson introduces the different muscles and bones of the lower body and demonstrates exercises that target the knees, hips, and other areas. Some example exercises listed are squats, glute bridges, and lunges. Students are expected to learn about proper form, identify relevant muscles and bones, and demonstrate strength exercises for the lower extremities. Progress will be tracked through performance records noting the type, time, and quantity of exercises completed.

PATHFIT 1 MODULE 3

MODULE 1
LESSON 1
Lesson Planning

Introduction:

In the new curriculum that has been applied for the Physical Education subject which is now called the
PATHFIT delivers new lessons that can make the student healthier and physically fit. To achieve the
target of being healthy and physically fit the students of PAHTFIT will be guided by learning materials
for the proper execution of different exercises of this lesson.

Exercising is one of the hobbies or past time of people of different ages. In exercising there are benefits
that we can get from it but with the proper execution of the different exercises you may be able to meet
your objectives. In this module the focus of the exercise is on the lower extremities where the students
can improve their lower part of their body without getting injured.

Course Learning Outcomes:

At the end of the module, the students are expected to:
1. Identify the different bones and muscles of the lower extremities.
2. Learn and understand the importance of proper execution of different exercises.
3. Demonstrate the basic strength training exercises.
4. Identify the part of their lower extremities that will be benefited by executing the different
exercises.

CONTENTS OF THE MODULE

This module contains the following lessons

LESSON 1– THE BENEFITS OF BASIC STRENGTH TRAINING EXERCISES (LOWER

EXTREMITIES)
For Topic 1: THE BENEFITS OF THE BASIC STRENGHT TRAINING EXERCISES

Specific Learning Outcomes:

A- Value the importance of basic strength exercises.

S - Demonstrates the proper execution of the exercises.
K – Identify the muscles and bones of the lower extremities of the body.

Motivation/Prompting Questions
Activity:
Hi class, have a great day! How are you doing right now? Are you in a good condition? Well we
will continue our lessons for today which are the benefits that we can get in exercising our lower
extremities but before that let’s know first the different muscles of our lower extremities.

Discussion:
Before we will tackle the core of our topic let’s know first the meaning of the strength training exercise
for you to understand it more. Exercising is very beneficiary to us it can improve ourselves physically and
mentally and it can help us to avoid diseases such us chronic diseases and also cancer. Today let’s find
out the different muscles in our lower extremities and how we can improve these parts and what are the
benefits that we may get in improving these parts.

 What is strength training exercise?

 What are the parts of the lower extremities?

 Identify the muscles and bones that is located in our lower extremities

 What are the benefits that we can get when doing regular exercise in our lower part of the body?

 What is the significance in doing these kinds of exercises?

Understanding the muscles and bones of the lower extremities is crucial in the PATHFIT course as it enables students to accurately perform exercises, understand their impact, and prevent injury. This knowledge helps students identify which exercises target specific muscles, providing a focused approach to muscular development and fitness .

Performing strength training exercises focused on the lower extremities can enhance physical and mental health, help avoid chronic diseases and cancer, and improve muscle strength and endurance in the lower body. This improvement aids in better performance in daily activities and supports injury prevention efforts .

The PATHFIT curriculum emphasizes proper exercise execution to maximize exercise benefits and minimize injuries. This approach teaches students the correct forms and techniques, ensuring effective muscle engagement and strain prevention. The focus on execution also develops students' ability to self-assess their physical performance, fostering long-term exercise adherence and health outcomes .

PATHFIT adopts a holistic pedagogical approach by integrating cognitive aspects like anatomical knowledge with physical practice in lower extremity exercises. This method enriches students' understanding of exercise benefits, promotes informed execution, and enhances physical health, reflecting a comprehensive educational model that bridges theory with practice for well-rounded development .

Incorporating horizontal and vertical push exercises, such as press-ups and military presses, PATHFIT provides a comprehensive strength-training program that targets upper body muscles and complements lower body workouts. This balanced exercise regimen supports overall muscular development and functional fitness, fostering well-rounded physical capabilities that enhance daily life activities .

Self-assessment through performance records allows students to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and reflect on their workout efficacy. This promotes accountability, motivation, and informed adjustments in personal exercise routines, aligning with PATHFIT's goal of fostering long-term fitness success and self-regulation .

For knee dominance, exercises like single-leg squats are recommended, while for hip dominance, exercises such as glute bridges and Romanian deadlifts are suggested. Knee dominant exercises enhance quadriceps strength and balance, whereas hip dominant exercises engage the glutes and hamstrings, promoting hip stability and strength. Together, they contribute to balanced lower body development and functional movement efficiency .

Specific lower extremity exercises such as single-leg squats, glute bridges, and Romanian deadlifts target major muscle groups in the legs and hips, enhancing muscle strength and function. These activities contribute to balance, stability, and agility, which improve overall physical health by reducing injury risk and supporting efficient movement patterns .

PATHFIT integrates digital resources such as YouTube videos to provide students with visual demonstrations of exercises, enhancing comprehension and engagement. This approach allows students to see correct exercise forms and receive guidance, facilitating practical understanding and compliance with exercise protocols outside of traditional classroom settings .

PATHFIT emphasizes lower extremity exercises due to their significant role in improving balance, stability, and overall mobility, essential for daily activities and sports performance. This focus also addresses common musculoskeletal issues by strengthening the foundational muscle groups, thereby supporting injury prevention and rehabilitation .
