Subject: RE: Invitation to participate: UN Division for Sustainable Development project on SME growth

Dear Morris,

It was a pleasure meeting you in January regarding our UN project on the Role of Micro-, Small- and
Medium- Enterprises (MSMEs) in Achieving the SDGs. We are currently discussing our project activities
with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Cooperatives and will later on reach out to your regarding our
next steps.

In the meantime, as part of the project, we are organizing a national workshopon 3 April in Manila,
Philippines. The focus of the workshop will be on the newly launched Philippines Youth
Entrepreneurship Program and its implementation. Please find attached the flyer of the programme, a
concept note for the workshop and a draft agenda.

The Government of Philippines would be very interested in learning about the work of the Youth
Enterprise Development Fund, in this regard.  Hence, we would like to inquire whether you or one of
your relevant team members would be able to join the workshop and make a presentation on your
work? The presentation would be made during the session II on international best practises.

We would be able to provide the economy class flights (Nairobi-Manila-Nairobi) and DSA (250*2 USD for
the nights plus 188 USD for so called terminal expenses) for the participant. I have taken the liberty to
attach the required documents for a potential participant in case your staff member would be able to
join. Unfortunately we would need to know this week if Youth Enterprise Development Fund would be
available to participate.

We understand that this invitation comes a bit at a last moment and that the travel to Manila is long for
a short workshop. However, we wanted to reach out to you in case you would be interested in sharing
your knowledge with the Philippines.

I would be more than happy to provide more information about the workshop, should you have any
questions about these. I very much look forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Riina

Last-minute invitations can lead to logistical challenges, financial constraints, and limited preparation time for participants. These can be mitigated by having a flexible funding mechanism, rapid processing of travel documents, and clear communication channels for swift decision-making and arrangement confirmations .

Participants need to provide a passport copy, a completed Participant Form, and a completed Funds Transfer Form to attend the UN Division for Sustainable Development workshop on SME growth in Manila. Meeting these requirements is crucial because they allow for timely processing of travel arrangements and ensure that all necessary details are complete to facilitate participation .

Including international best practices in SME growth workshops is strategically important as it broadens the perspectives of participants, introduces innovative solutions, and enhances the efficacy of local strategies. This approach fosters a collaborative environment where countries can learn from each other's successes and challenges, ultimately contributing to more sustainable and effective SME development globally .

International workshops, such as the UN initiative on SME growth, play a crucial role in knowledge sharing by providing a platform for exchanging experiences and best practices. They foster mutual learning, enhance international cooperation, and contribute to the development of globally relevant strategies that align with the Sustainable Development Goals. This approach can lead to more innovative and effective solutions to common challenges faced by SMEs worldwide .

SMEs are significant in achieving sustainable development goals as they are crucial for economic growth, job creation, and innovation. They provide opportunities for addressing poverty and inequality while promoting sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation. The UN workshop highlights the importance of sharing best practices of SMEs in this process, reinforcing their role in driving sustainable development .

The Youth Enterprise Development Fund is seen as a key player in achieving SDGs by sharing its practices as international best practices at the UN workshop. This implies its role in fostering entrepreneurship, aiding in economic development, and providing youth with opportunities, aligning with SDGs focused on economic growth, reduced inequalities, and education .

An effective strategy would include establishing a network of local workshops or seminars where representatives share insights gained internationally. Developing online platforms or resource centers for continuous learning and creating mentorship programs linking international experts with local SMEs could further enhance knowledge transfer. Additionally, integrating best practices into policy recommendations and providing support for test implementation locally can help adapt and scale successful strategies .

The Philippines can benefit by gaining insights into successful strategies implemented by the Youth Enterprise Development Fund, which could be adapted to enhance their own youth entrepreneurship initiatives. This knowledge transfer may lead to more effective support structures for young entrepreneurs, contributing to economic growth and sustainable development within the country .

The logistical steps involve confirming availability, providing required documentation such as a passport copy, and filling out participant and funds transfer forms. This structured approach ensures that all administrative and financial arrangements are made in advance to facilitate seamless participation in the international event .

The arrangements for economy class flights and DSA reflect the UN's commitment to facilitating international collaborations by providing financial support to participants. This ensures that financial constraints do not hinder the sharing of international best practices and participation in global dialogues aimed at sustainable development .
