Module 5-6
Finite Groups; Subgroups
I. Introduction
In this module, we will understand about the order of Group, order of element and
subgroups and how to use this concept to solve certain problems.
Have a productive week everyone!
II. Objectives
Here are the objectives of our lesson. At the end of the lesson, you are expected to:
a. illustrate the order of a group, order of an element, and the subgroup concept by
producing examples and non-examples;
b. Explain the structures and characteristics of different subgroups like cyclic subgroup,
center of a group and centralizer of an element;
c. assess and justify whether a given set of elements together with a binary operation is a
subgroup;
d. Compose proofs for related propositions using previous theorems.
III. Presentation of the Lesson and Learning Activities
Terminology and Notation
As we will soon discover, finite groups—that is, groups with finitely many elements—
have interesting arithmetic properties. To facilitate the study of finite groups, it is convenient to
introduce some terminology and notation.

V. Reflection
1. Write three (3) things you learn about the given concept.
2. What difficulty did you encounter in the topics presented?
3. Write at least two questions that you can generate from the discussion.
