“The Rise of Hospitality Management Amidst Pandemic”
(Loyd) Chris Samson- Hello Everyone! Here you are listening again to my
podcast, I am Chris Samson. What a great morning to start our podcast with a
great smile. Let’s see who have for today, say Hello to Mr. Clifford Tan, the
Manager of Mayumi Resort in El Nido Palawan. Today we’re going to discuss
how the Hospitality Management rise amidst Pandemic. Ever since Pandemic
strike , people’s lives have been put to halt. Not only the financial aspect of people
have been greatly affected but also the emotional, mental, education and economic
status of people. All of us could no longer predict the consequences it brought to
our lives, having our jobs lose and getting us into a difficult situation. Now we ask
Mr. Tan for some questions. What were the struggle your resort faced when the
pandemic strike?.
(Clifford) Mr. Tan – Mayumi Resort was one of the well built resort in El Nido
Palawan. It had a consistent high remark in its performance in the kitchen,
marketing and people’s services. However, once covid-19 has strike, the tourists
started become few until there were no travels going in and out of Palawan. We
couldn’t able to secure the pays for our people working in us that year 2019, so we
sent them home. But we still tried our best to pay them for their hardwork. We
admit that it came so unexpected that we weren’t prepared for it.
Loyd- Thank You Mr. Tan, it is true that it really made businesses sectors run
slow, these could be the greatest challenge for all businesses out there. Knowing
that you struggle so much, how did you set your own coping strategies in order to
slowly rise from this crisis.
Mr. Tan- What we did was we took it one step at a time. Since it requires a long
time to pause our business due to strict protocols and restrictions, it doesn’t mean
that we should never go back, that Mayumi resort must not get recovered anymore.
If those days mean that we have to stay calm, silent and take a rest, our team have
realized that and did follow through it. While we temporarily close it we are
already thinking of the great alternatives we can offer so that our services would
still be valuable.
Loyd- I can see that you’ve struggled that much but then you’ve slowly recovered
because as you have said you took it one step at a time. Which is a very essential
principle in people’s lives right now, a character that must not be forgotten.
Because on an ordinary lives we have before pandemic began we all go with
rushing things, setting deadlines and pressures hand in hand. I can really agree to
what Mr. Tan have said, that if it is time to take a rest then we’ll have to do it,
because after it we must fight again. So Mr. Tan what have you developed?
Mr. Tan- We turned our resort into a more sustainable and healthy one. We
encourage our laborers and people to expound their creativity in creating
something out of nothing. To learn how to become more humble and hospitable
despite of this crisis. It is hard to see the smiles in our faces nowadays however, we
must not forget that it simply teach us the other way around. We must smile , so we
can inspire others. By that we continue to serve people with sincerity. This is how
we have took every single step tas our hospitality management rise from this
Pandemic.
Loyd- We are so glad that you’ve slowly cope despite of this pandemic. We hope
for the continuous recovery and success of your future developments in Mayumi
resort. Thank you for being here and sharing your story with us. I’m sure more
people got inspired by listening to us. May we all conquered this pandemic
together and rise from it, with a power of a smile that cherishes memories and
experiences. See you on my next podcast. Bye!
