History of Communication and Globalization


1830s
The telegraph- electric communication via transatlantic underwater cables.
1843- Washington and Baltimore connected.
1865- Britain and India connected.
1870s- Europe linked to large part of the world.
1924- King George V sent a message circulated the globe in 80 seconds.

19th Century
Emerge of Global news networks:
1. News over to larger territories
2. Global in scope
3. Reached bug audiences
Electromagnetic Waves
 The emergence of organization with the mission to disseminate radio
frequencies.

NOW
We got computer, cellphone, internet etc.

Dimensions of Globalization

Cultural
 contributes to the exchange of cultural values of different countries, the
convergence of traditions. Example: The Coffee is said to be originally
from Ethiopia and consumed in the Arabid region. Nonetheless, it is
nowadays known as a globally consumed commodity.
Social
 refers to the sharing of ideas and information between and through
different countries. Example: Film, television, social media apps etc.
Political
 the development and growing influence of international organizations.
Example: European Union, The North American Treaty Organization
(NATO), etc.

Economic
 refers to the increasing interdependence of world economies as a result of
the growing scale of cross-border trade of commodities and services, flow
of international capital and wide and rapid spread of technologies.
Example: Free trade agreements, partnership in businesses etc.

Common thread: They are all depend on Global Communication infrastructure.
