value of eddy-current loss. Assume sinusoidal variation of magnetic flux in the core.
14. The hysteresis power loss of a transformer was found to 500 W when supplied at 230 V, 50 Hz. What will be
the hysteresis power loss of the transformer when it is connected to a 120 V, 60 Hz supply
15. A generator has the following power losses at full load:
Core loss: 750 W; Rotational loss: 1000 W; Copper loss: 2500 W. Determine the total power loss of the
generator at half load.
16. A 20-pole, 50-Hz, 3-phase, A.C generator has 240 slots in its armature. All the coils per phase are connected in
series and each slot accommodates six conductors. Assume single layer winding with full pitch coils and a flux

flux density in air gap).
17. The armature of a six-pole D.C machine is wound with 498 conductors. The flux and the speed are such that the
average e.m.f generated in each conductor is 3 V. The current in each conductor is 100 A. Find the total current

18. A 50 hp, 2000 rpm, d.c. motor is supplied at 300 V. If the efficiency of the motor at this load is 92%, determine
the motor power loss, the shaft torque the supply current.
19. In the magnetic circuit shown below, the relative permeability of the ferromagnetic material is 1500. Magnetic
leakage and fringing can be neglected. All dimensions are in centimeters and the magnetic material has a square
cross-sectional area.
(a) Draw a labeled electrical
circuit equivalent of the magnetic
circuit
(b) Determine the magnetic
flux density in the air gap.
20. The two conductors of a 300 A d.c. transmission line are placed 4 meters apart. Calculate the force acting per
one meter length of the conductors.
