Data Collection Procedure

 We, the researchers, made sure that our study has the approval and permission by the
school to conduct our data collection from our target respondents. To start, we oriented
our respondents by talking about the confidentiality of their personal information, so we
politely asked for their consent to use their answers to the survey for our research.
Moreover, during the survey, each participant was given ample time to answer the
questions. We told the respondents that data gathering was voluntary too, so they have
the right to withdraw anytime. Upon the agreement with them, we divided them to
different schedules to proceed on answering the survey questions we prepared. After
answering all questions, we instructed them to hand over their survey answers for cross
checking or validation if all the questions were answered as they were intended. After
that, we reviewed and commented on returned survey answers or results by using the
statistical treatment.

Statistical Treatment of Data

 For the statistical analysis, we used the Slovin’s formula for the estimation of the
suitable sample size given the total target population from the research locale. By using
Slovin’s formula, we are confident that our survey results are not biased and can
represent the target population we selected. Furthermore, since the research design is
descriptive quantitative research, we think that the most appropriate statistical analysis
method is the percentage frequency distribution formula. Due to this, we can utilize this
analysis to indicate the proportion of observations for each data point or collection of
data points from our collected survey results. It was a very helpful way methodology for
us because it was able to illustrate the relative frequency of survey replies and outlined
the demographics of the respondents. Furthermore, we also asked for a help of a
statistician and they used an external application which was the Statistical Package of
Social Sciences or SPSS for doing the paired t-test or dependent/correlated t-test. By
doing this, we are able to see the means and errors of the focused variables in our study
to see if they are significantly different.

Questionnaire
 For the making and preparation of our Questionnaire, we ensured that we distributed it
to a total of one hundred and twenty-nine respondents coming from the hospitality
management students of STI college dasmariñas. Moreover, we divided them to 55 2 nd
years, 40 3rd years, and 34 4th year students. Our questionnaire is structured and self-
made with three pages. The first page contains the permission letter to survey, and the
2 and 3 are for the actual questionnaires. Part I was for the demographic profile, while
part II was for filter questions and part III was for the general questions. Them, the part
IV was created to see the level of agreement and disagreement. Now, we used the 4-
point likert scale to ger the objective and quantitative results of the survey.

Common questions

Voluntary participation is crucial in research to uphold ethical standards and ensure the integrity of data collected. It encourages honest and unbiased responses, as participants choose to engage based on their consent, reducing the risk of coercion or distress. This enhances the credibility of the research findings, as data reflects genuine participant experiences and opinions, crucial for trustworthy outcomes .

The use of a 4-point Likert scale contributes to obtaining objective and quantitative results by forcing respondents to express a clear degree of agreement or disagreement without a middle neutral option. This allows for precise measurement of attitudes and strengthens the ability to quantify responses for statistical analysis, eliminating ambiguous interpretations in the data .

Demographic profile questions were crucial in identifying the characteristics of the sample population, such as age, education level, and other relevant background information. They are important because they allow researchers to understand the context of responses and to evaluate whether the sample accurately reflects the broader target population, supporting meaningful data segmentation and analysis .

The researchers employed several statistical methods, including percentage frequency distribution and paired t-test. The percentage frequency distribution was used to indicate the proportion of observations for each data point, which helped illustrate the demographics and relative frequency of the survey responses. The paired t-test, performed using SPSS, helped determine the significance of differences among the focused variables by comparing means and errors .

Self-made questionnaires may face challenges such as biased questions, lack of validation, and misinterpretation by respondents. These can be mitigated by pilot testing the questionnaire to identify unclear or biased questions, and ensuring the involvement of subject matter experts in the questionnaire design to enhance validity and reliability. Additionally, employing established scales for certain questions can provide standardized measurement .

Dividing respondents into different schedules for taking the survey ensured organized and manageable data collection. It allowed researchers to control the environment and timing of data gathering, preventing respondent fatigue and reducing the likelihood of rushed or careless answers, thus enhancing the quality of the data collected from each session .

The use of Slovin's formula allows researchers to determine the appropriate sample size needed to represent the total target population, which ensures the representativeness of the sample. By doing so, it mitigates the risk of bias that might arise from under or over-sampling parts of the population, as the formula calculates an adequate sample size considering the entire population size and desired confidence level .

The questionnaire was structured in four parts: a permission letter specifying survey consent, demographic questions (Part I), filter questions (Part II), and general questions along with a section to gauge agreement levels using a 4-point Likert scale (Parts III and IV). This structure allowed systematic data collection by first securing consent, collecting demographic data, sorting respondents, and finally gaining insights into their opinions or behaviors, ensuring comprehensive data coverage .

The research study observed several ethical considerations to ensure the respect and protection of participants. Firstly, the researchers obtained approval and permission from the school to conduct the data collection. They also informed the respondents about the confidentiality of their personal information and obtained their consent for using the survey answers. The participation was voluntary, and respondents had the right to withdraw at any time. Therefore, respect for autonomy and privacy were prioritized during the data collection phase .

Collaboration with a statistician and the use of SPSS enhanced the reliability of the study results by ensuring accurate data analysis. The statistician provided expertise in applying sophisticated statistical tests, such as the paired t-test, which examined the significance of differences in focused variables. SPSS, a robust statistical software, ensured that data was handled efficiently and results were accurate, reducing human error in calculations and increasing confidence in the findings .
