Syllabus
Introduction about manufacturing process, classification of manufacturing process
Foundry/Metal casting: Sand Moulding, patterns, melting furnaces (cupola, Induction furnace,
Arc furnace & Resistance Furnace), sand casting, investment casting, centrifugal casting, die
casting, Casting defects.
Welding: classification of welding, gas welding, arc welding, TIG and MIG welding, resistance
welding, thermit welding, Advanced Welding like plasma Arc, Laser Beam, Electron Beam,
Ultrasonic, Explosive and friction welding, Brazing and soldering, welding defects.
Metal forming: Hot and cold working of metals, Rolling, Forging, Extrusion, Wire drawing, Sheet
metal working.
Machining: Different types of machine tools, i.e., Lathe, Milling machine, Drilling machine,
Grinding machine; Tool holding and job holding methods in different M/C tools, Indexing
mechanism and thread cutting mechanism.
