SMART VAV
ZB- SDT- PD DATA SHEET
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The smart VAV is an essential component in cold air distribution of the
HVAC system. This device blows the cold air based on demand and
occupancy. The VAV controls the volume of cold air entering an area and
varies it according to the needs of the occupants and the ambient
temperature with the help of Thermostat.

THERMOSTAT
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The general functionality of this thermostat is to measure the volumetric
flow temperature and occupancy of the room. Based on the temperature
and occupancy feedback the thermostat sends the signal to actuator to
control the flow.

FEATURES OF THERMOSTAT
1. Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor
This sensor measures infrared light radiating from the persons occupying
the room in its range. The detection range of this sensor is 12m and can
detect objects with a speed of 1m/s or more and a minimum size of 700mm
x 250mm.
2. Velocity Sensor
The sensor measures the velocity of airflow in the damper and is used to
calculate the volumetric flow.
3. Ambient temperature sensor
This sensor measures the room temperature, and directly calibrates the
temperature in Celsius. It provides 0.5°C ensured accuracy at 25°C and is
rated for the full -5°C to 80°C range.
4. Humidity Sensor.
This sensor measures the room humidity and shows the value in percentage.
It provides 2.5 % ensured accuracy and is rated for the complete 0 % to 95%
range.
5. LUX Sensor.
This sensor measures the room light level and shows the LUX level. It ranges
from 0-600 lux.
6. Infrared sensor for the remote control
This sensor helps to set the temperature in the thermostat and to switch it
ON/OFF using the remote control.
7. Display
This usually displays the ambient temperature, actual CFM, and humidity
and set the temperature value up to one decimal value. When the remote
control is setting the temperature, it displays the set temperature for an
instant and reverts to display the ambient temperature, CFM, humidity, and
actuator position. The display is also used for the configuration of the
system during installation.
8. Communication protocol
Provision of both wired(Modbus-RTU) and wireless(IEEE Std. 802.11-2012
complaint) communication are available to communicate to the gateway/
AHU controller.

CONFIGURATION PARAMETERS OF THERMOSTAT
There is a list of configuration parameters that can be set up in the
Thermostat.
[Link] ID
This is used for identification purposes. It can hold values from 1 to 32. The
maximum value of 32 implies the maximum number of Thermostats and
Automatic air diffuser’s/ VAV's that can be used.
2. Direction
This configuration parameter can set the rotation direction Clockwise or
Anti-clockwise.
3. Minimum set temperature
This is the minimum temperature that can be set up in the thermostat by
the user. The default value that is set up in this parameter is 23°C. The
maximum value is usually set at 31°C, which cannot be changed by the user.
Since the user is not allowed to set up a temperature lesser than this
minimum temperature, the system will always run at its optimum load
henceforth resulting in energy saving.
4. Set Offset
This parameter allows to set the exact room temperature when there is a
difference between the temperature measured by the thermometer and the
temperature seen by the thermostat. This value is usually set between -4°C
and +4°C.
For example, when the room temperature measured by the thermometer is
24°, and the thermostat shows only 23°, then the offset is set as +1°, to
measure the correct temperature.
5. PIR state
This setting can hold the values Enable and Disable. PIR sensor always
checks for the presence of the people in a zone and sends it to VAV/air
diffuser. When set as ‘Enable’, the logic uses the data from PIR sensor and
control the cold air based on the occupancy and the value ‘Disable’ will
ignore the occupancy status and continue to deliver cold air assuming that
the zone is occupied. In this case, the ON/OFF can only be manually done
through remote control or BMS

6. PIR timing
This parameter is to set "off time" of the system when there is no one in the
room after the set time. The default value is set-up for 10 minutes, which
means that the system will be switched off after 10 minutes when there is
no one in the room.
7. PIR count
The PIR sensor will be receiving pulses when a person enters the room. The
pulse count that is set up in this parameter will be used to decide when to
switch on the system. It can hold values from 1 - 5. If the count is set up as 2
(default value), the system will be set on within 15 seconds after the sensor
receives two continuous pulses.
8. Version
This is for information purposes and gets changed only when there is a
system upgrade.
9. VAV Calibration
The calibration of VAV is based on the below parameters.
Vnom- VAV box manufacturer maximum designed CFM.
Delta P- Calibrated factor
Vmax- Required maximum CFM for the space.
Vnom- Required minimum CFM for the space.
MODULE SPECIFICATION
In short, the configuration parameters will have the following values.

PIR state Enable/Disable
VAV – ID 1 to 32
Direction Clockwise or Anticlockwise
Temperature Offset +4 to -4 degree C
