Cybersecurity Resolutions for Privacy Issues

The document contains summaries of resolutions for three issues: Issue #1 resolution suggests using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) to keep personal information private and secure when using Zoom. Issue #2 resolution recommends implementing multi-factor authentication to help secure accounts, as over 30% of phishing messages are opened and 15% of successfully phished users can be targeted again within a year. Issue #3 resolution involves limited sharing on social media and using an Intrusion Detection System (IDS) to track fake accounts impersonating others, such as a case where a con artist created a fake Facebook account impersonating a Philippine general.

Issue #01 resolution :

The New York Times alleged that Zoom engaged in undisclosed data mining
during user conversations. The incident happened via a subscription-based
tool called LinkedIn Sales Navigator that Zoom offered customers to assist
with their marketing needs. Internet Privacy to be use here is “Using a
Virtual Private Network (VPN)”. Network Security to be use here is “Intrusion
Detection System (IDS)”. Benefits of applying this resolution are your real
information will not be made public and makes you feel secure.

Issue #02 resolution :

A study by Verizon found that more than 30% of phishing messages get
opened by targeted users. 15% of people successfully phished will be
targeted again, and could be victims again within the year. Use “Using Multi-
factor Authentication” to help you secure your account. Network security to
be use here is “Email Security”. By applying this resolution, as a benefits you
can have more secure account.

Issue #03 resolution :

Philippine National Police zeroed in on a cyber con artist who

misrepresented Gen. Camilo Cascolan in an internet-based scam. The con
artist created a fake social network account with the name "Camilo
[Link]" on Facebook to further bolster his criminal misrepresentation
and impersonation scheme. Internet Privacy to be used here is “Limited
Sharing on Social Media”. Using “Intrusion Detection System (IDS)” will help
you tract of your poser accounts. You can benefit by applying this resolution
like your name and picture won’t be use for online scamming.

The use of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) in cybersecurity is pivotal in identifying breaches by continuously monitoring networks for signs of malicious activity or policy violations. For both professional and personal data protection, IDS provides early detection of potential threats, allowing for timely intervention. This proactive defense strategy is essential in identifying unauthorized access or attempts to harvest data, thereby maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of sensitive information .

The resolution applied involved limiting sharing on social media and using 'Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS)' to track poser accounts. This approach helps protect individual privacy by preventing unauthorized use of one's name and picture for online scams, effectively reducing the risk of personal information exploitation .

Intrusion detection systems play a crucial role in preventing social media-based impersonation scams by monitoring and analyzing network traffic to detect and respond to suspicious activities. In the case of the Philippine National Police, IDS was used to track poser accounts, thereby identifying and mitigating the risks of scams involving fake accounts that aim to misrepresent individuals such as 'Gen. Camilo Cascolan' .

Email security measures, such as filtering and flagging suspicious emails, are crucial in combating repeated phishing attempts. The Verizon study highlights that a significant percentage of users still open phishing messages, indicating a persistent threat. Effective email security can reduce the incidence of these attacks by identifying and mitigating malicious content before it reaches the user, thereby lessening the likelihood of repeated victimization .

Limiting information sharing on social media contributes to mitigating impersonation risks by reducing the amount of personal data that can be accessed and misused. In the Gen. Camilo Cascolan case, reduced exposure of personal details on platforms like Facebook decreases the potential for creating convincing fake accounts, thus safeguarding against reputation damage and fraudulent activities .

The suggested network security measure for safeguarding against phishing attacks is 'Email Security.' According to the Verizon study, more than 30% of phishing messages are opened by targeted users, and 15% of those successfully phished will be targeted again and could fall victim again within a year .

Multi-factor authentication enhances account security by adding an extra layer of verification beyond password entry. It mitigates the risk of phishing attacks by requiring an additional form of identification, such as a code sent to a mobile device. This makes it significantly more difficult for attackers to gain unauthorized access even if they obtain the user's password, thereby reinforcing overall network security .

To address unauthorized data mining, using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) is recommended as it prevents real information from being exposed to third parties. The benefits of this strategy include heightened security, confidentiality, and the assurance that personal details remain private and are not mined or exploited without consent .

Applying virtual privacy techniques, such as VPNs, prevents unauthorized data collection and ensures that user interactions remain confidential. In the case of Zoom's data mining incident, these techniques protect user information from being inappropriately mined by concealing online activity, thus fostering a secure and private communication environment .

Using a VPN enhances internet privacy by ensuring that real information is not exposed and protects against unauthorized data collection, such as in the Zoom undisclosed data mining incident. The VPN helps mask user data, providing a sense of security and maintaining user confidentiality in online interactions .
