International Nursing PhD Program

Introduction of Program
National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences
originally founded in 1954 and was the first nursing college in
Taiwan. In 2005, NTUNHS established a doctoral program in
nursing; this was the first doctoral nursing program in the nation
provided by a technological and vocational school. In response to
students' diversified development and career planning needs, the
School of Nursing has the best-rated PhD-level faculty in the
country, and develops competency-based courses connected to the
nursing practice, as well as implement objective methods for
competence assessment. Our doctoral program aims to nurture
healthcare talents in nursing leadership, nursing education, and
nursing research.
Graduation Requirements
After PhD nursing students successfully complete the first year
study with total 19 credits of coursework, they can take a
comprehensive written PhD Qualifying exam. Students will be
able to take the proposal defense and dissertation defense after
they have passed their qualifying exam. Students will need to
fulfill a Learning Achievement score by publishing their
academic articles, presenting conference papers, or registering a
(related product) patent. Each student also needs to have at least
14 days of international learning experience abroad at schools or
organizations recognized internationally.

2. Have a master’s degree in fields related to nursing or midwifery from universities and colleges approved by

In addition to equipping students with professional
knowledge and skills of midwifery and enhancing training
in medical guidance and consultation, we aim to cultivate
students’ abilities to conduct academic research or engage

The program emphasizes woman- and family- oriented

International Montessori Master’s Degree Program
On-line Application Period: November 1st, 2021 ~ March 31, 2022
(Dual Degree Program with Montessori Teacher Credential)

This program is designed for students with a bachelor’s degree. Students take courses leading to Montessori
teacher certification while simultaneously working on two master’s degrees.

Scope of Curriculum

1. Students are required to complete 33 credits of study for the program. Of the 33 credits, 24 credits are offered
on-ground, and 9 credits are offered online. The courses are as follows:
Montessori Foundation I: Child Development, Montessori Philosophy.
Montessori Foundation II: Classroom Leadership, Observation, Parent Involvement.
Montessori Methods I: Practical Life, Art, Music, and Movement, Sensorial
Montessori Methods II: Math, Language Arts, Cosmic, Year-long Project
Montessori Practicum I: Student Teaching I, Seminar I
Montessori Practicum II: Student Teaching II, Seminar II

2. Students will earn two degrees and a Montessori credential after the 2-year program is successfully completed.
(i) MEd in Montessori Emphasis, offered by Chaminade University of Honolulu (CUH), U.S.A.
(ii) M.S. in Infant and Child Care, offered by National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences
(NTUNHS), Taiwan.
(iii) A Montessori Early Childhood teaching Credential.
Study Period
This cohort will start in July 1 2022. This two-year intensive program will end in June 2024. The on-ground
components of the program will be delivered from July to August 2022, and July 2023. All on-ground courses will
be conducted at the NTUNHS campus in Taipei, Taiwan. Between September 2022 and May 2023, students will
complete the practicum phase of the Montessori training either in Taiwan or in their home countries. Between
August 2023 and May 2024 students will complete research courses on-line.
The program will be suspended for one year if the total number of students is less than 10
students. The students who are admitted for the enrollment will be automatically transfer to
next year’s admission of the program.
Qualification
Qualified applicants must meet the following requirements:
1. Have a bachelor’s degree from a university or college approved by the Ministry of Education, Republic of
China (Taiwan), with a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or its equivalent.
2. A course-by-course evaluation from any NACES (National Association of Credential Evaluation Services)
approved foreign transcript evaluation company.
3. Applicants whose native language is not English MUST should meet one of the following English proficiency
requirements: a TOFEL score of at least 79 (IBT), or an IELTS score of at least 6.5, or a PTE score of at least
53*. *If you have already obtained a Bachelor degree from U.S.A., which is recognized by Taiwan’s Ministry
of Education. You may waive English proficiency test and transcript evaluation.
