Who are we?

1. Baula:Before we begin, let us introduce ourselves. We are The Eco-Warrior Union of the
Philippines (TEWUP). The organization is established on February 20, 2004 and founded by John
Kennedy Balmori. TEWUP’s mission is to get the community involved in preserving, managing,
and protecting the environment and natural resources for both the present and future
generations.
2. Balmori: Our project is called, “What a waste: A Sustainable Solid Waste Management System”.
This project aims to lessen the quantity of waste transported to local landfill by emphasizing the
3Rs: Reduce, reuse, and recycle. As well as this is our way to encourage the residents of
barangay Ramon Cruz to be participative and raise awareness regarding the waste of the
barangay.
What’s the problem?

3. Balmori: One of the biggest problems in the Baranggay of Ramon Cruz has been improper waste
management. Outside the barangay’s streets, there are mountains of garbage bags stacked up.
This issue could have a number of detrimental effects. It contributes to environmental pollution
of the air and water and endangers the health of barangay residents, Gap in the knowledge
4. Balauag: One might be unclear about what solid waste management defines. Solid waste
management, according to Nathanson, is the process of collecting, handling, and disposing of
solid waste that has been dumped because it is no longer required or useful.
5. Cortez: On the other hand, one might be interested in learning more about the meaning of the
word “reduce, reuse, and recycle,” how they operate, or how they might help us and our
community. Well, let’s get started by understanding what each word means. Research (What

6. Llanes: Reducing simply means that one should make an effort to use fewer materials. The most
crucial action in lowering plastic use is to prevent its production in the first place.
7. Gamboa: Reuse involves looking for fresh applications for waste materials. One instance is using
cleaned-out jars for storage.
8. Llanes: Finally, recycling entails transforming waste into something useful. For example, used
paper can be recycled to make paper plates or toilet paper

So what is the root cause of this problem?

9. Balmori: In Barangay Aldiano Olaes, the GMA Sanitary Landfill, is where the issue of uncollected
trash first appears. As of July 2019, this has been managed by the business Global Environment,
Technologies, and General Services (Gemtech). The sanitary landfill was approaching capacity,
and the company wrote to the local government unit (LGU) to let them know.

What is the significance of the project to the problem?


10. Balauag: Since solid waste management aims to prevent and eliminate the harmful effects of
waste materials on the environment and human health as well as to promote economic growth
and create income opportunities, the project’s implementation is crucial for residents of
barangay Ramon Cruz as well as for residents and the environment of General Mariano Alvarez
Cavite. By focusing on the 3Rs—Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle—this project also lessens the
harmful effects of waste that are already present.

So, what is our goal/objective/plan?

11. Baula: TEWUP's project, “What a waste: A Sustainable Solid Waste Management System”aims
to reduce waste and lessen reliance on municipal landfills by making recycling mandatory and
making proper waste management a habit. Ramon Cruz Barangay is now the healthiest and
cleanest barangay in General Mariano Alvarez, and this encourages its residents to participate
and work together. The project also aims to teach the locals how to turn waste into reusable
and valuable products and sell them. By doing this, not only will the environment be improved,
but residents from socially and economically underprivileged groups will have opportunities for
employment.

What is our methid to determine the effectiveness of the project?

12. Llanes: The residents of Barangay Ramon Cruz will be asked about their observations and
experiences before, during, and after the project's implementation as part of a qualitative
survey and interview that aims to get their feedback on the effects of the project. In addition to
taking notes on the responses, interviews will also be filmed with permission.

Benefits and expected outcome?

13. Cortez: All residents should benefit from the project by the time it is approved. This will not only
make the barangay a better place to live but will also foster cooperation within the
neighborhood. A barangay that preserves a clean, healthy environment while making use of its
resources and waste products, lowering the barangay’s reliance on the landfill. Additionally, the
project will promote community cooperation and participation and provide unemployed and
underprivileged barangay residents with income opportunities.

How the outcome will be evaluated

14. Calamba or Balmori: Data gathered from surveys and interviews will be looked at and analyzed
in order to determine whether or not this project’s results were successful. We’ll also check to
see if the project’s goals and objectives line up with its outcome. Additionally, photographs
taken before, during, and after the project will be compared to determine changes.
