 CIRCULAR ARC METHOD (Approximate Ellipse)
Given: Axis AB=180mm, Axis CD=120mm
1. Draw line AC. With 0 as center and 0A as radius, strike
arc AE.
2. With C as center and CE as radius, strike the arc EF.
3. Draw perpendicular bisector GH of the line AF. The
point K and J, where it intersects the axes and the
centers of the required arcs.
4. Find centers M and L by setting off 0L=0K and 0M=0J.
Using centers K, L, M, and J, draw circular arcs of the
ellipse.

 INVOLUTE OF A TRIANGLE
1. Extend each side of the triangle.
2. Use one side of the triangle as a radius and strike
an arc as AB in the figure.
3. Swing the arc with B as the center to point 1.
4. Using the distance C1 as the radius and C as the

5. Continue in this manner until the desired size is
drawn.

 INVOLUTE OF A CIRCLE
Given: DIA. 50mm
1. Divide the circle into a number of equal parts.
Construct tangents to each division a circle.
2. The length of cord around the circle is πD. The length
of the first cord of the involute is that part of the circle
uncovered when the string is unwound.
3. In the given figure, the circle is divided into 12 parts;
so, the first length L1 is equal to 1/12πD. The second
length L2 is equal to 2/12πD. Calculate this for each
length. Connect the points.

 INVOLUTE OF A SQUARE
1. Extend the side of the square.
2. Draw an arc from one corner (point B) with radius
AB until it reaches point 1.
3. Draw an arc from point C with radius AB+BC until
it reaches point 2.
4. The involute can be continued in this manner by
increasing the radius by the length of the sides of
the square for each 90O.
