6th Grade ELA Syllabus
Objectives
The objectives of this course are as follows:
● The students will be able to support analysis in a text by citing supporting evidence and
be able to draw their own conclusions from at least 3 different texts with 90% accuracy.
● The students will be able to determine a theme or central idea in 3 texts as well as the
particular details that lead them there and provide a summary without personal opinion.
Assignments
Due Dates
The due dates for this course are as follows:
● December 2nd: Central idea and theme quiz
● December 6th: Summary journal
● December 8th: Grammar conventions worksheet
Assessment
Learning objectives are going to be assessed by summative and formative methods. Formative
methods include answers to open ended questions, answers on graphic organizers and
responsiveness to feedback from the teacher on assignments. Summative methods will include
quizzes and homework grades.
Quizzes for the week's topics will be given every Friday.
Remediation
Remediation will be offered after school in the classroom as needed throughout the week.
Feedback
Feedback will be given through report cards every 9 weeks. Weekly assignments will receive
feedback through Google Classroom in private comments, email, flipgrid or by using Mote.
Grading Criteria
A = 90-100, B = 80-89, C = 70-79, D = 60-69 and F = Below 60
Grading weight:
Assignments 20-30%
Quizzes 70%
Projects 60%

Expectations
● Assignments will be graded and posted every Monday for the prior week.
● Folders will be sent home every two weeks with assignments that students have done
and their progress.
● Parent teacher conferences can be scheduled by phone call or email.

Social media that will be used in this course:
● YouTube to provide videos regarding the lessons topic
● Facebook group to post upcoming assignment reminders
● Class Dojo to send parent reminders
● Wakelet for class collaboration
Student
Expectations
● Be punctual when coming to class and turning in assignments.
● Students need to bring all the materials required for class (Chromebook, notebook, pen,
pencil, highlighters and color pencils).

Students will be expected to…
● Show respect and kindness to their fellow classmates and teacher.
● Follow the dress code.
● Keep their hands to themselves and no use of vulgar language or profanity.
