India is the second largest producer of fish in the world, producing over 9 million metric tons annually. Fisheries play an important economic and employment role in India, especially for low-income populations. Tamil Nadu has a long coastline and large exclusive economic zone, contributing over 5 million tons of marine fish production annually. The state ranks 4th in total fish production in India and exports over 128,000 metric tons of marine products each year. The objectives of this project are to establish cold storage and processing facilities to develop hygienic fish products using sustainable practices, provide constant cold storage for fish marketing, and promote fish exports by developing shore infrastructure to high standards.

Introduction

Fish production and processing units is around the world and especially in India that

produces more than 10 % of the global utilization of fish diversity. India is the second largest

fish production of about 9.06 MMTs. In India fisheries industries plays a very important role of

economic activity and developing sector with various resources and high potentials

background. The foremost important component of Indian economy in terms of low-income to

high-income level, employment opportunities and major focusing of fish products it means of

food and nutritional supply of every living organisms. The annual average consumption rate of

fish related products per capita was about 8-15 kg. The contribution of fisheries in the GDP of

national level is estimated of about 1%. In previously, the rearing of fish at local and minor level

of trade activities but at present the promotion and commercialization of fish production and

trading is the important need of our nation development also includes. The additional value

added products in fish processing stage are ornamental fish and export activities of selling high

quality fish trades. It remains a traditional economic with tremendous activities on socio-

economic adverse impact in the rural and urban sector. In general our traditional way of fish

production, a small group of brackish water culture in rural and a large volume of sea fishing

activities in urban areas. The adaptation of fish processing unit is requirements for high quality

and precious stocking of fish exports in around the country. It shows that the current

revolutionary way to satisfying their huge industries development and investment option for

an entrepreneur of a sustainable manner.

In Tamilnadu, the coastal region of all the districts are majorly depends on fish rearing

and focus specifically in export trades of fish related value additional products. With the long

coastal line of 1,076 km, 41,412 km2 continential shelf area with Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ)

of 1.9 L km2 contributing 5,209 lakhs tons of marine fish production. The total fish production of

the country was 12.59 MMT. It indicates that the second largest fish production in the world is

India. In states of India, Tamilnadu ranks 4 th in the total production, exported 1,28,845 MT of

marine products and high income developments. The per capita consumption in Tamilnadu is

9.83 kg as the recommended range of 11.6 kg. The increases demand in fish production is to be
needed for the state sustainable fishery resources. So that emerging and profitable activity for

developing fish production and generation of income based in all areas of region. The

governments of Tamilnadu is always supported and enhance the inland fish production for the

economic development in the way of various fish rearing goods in the subsidy basic and creates

employment opportunities.

Objectives:

The fish processing unit with storage facilities is the important factors involved in this

project. It is the capacity building of Cold Chain Facilities (CCF) to develop the hygienic fish

products with sustainable practices. The cold chain storage system for fish marketing is a kind

of constant supply of temperature within the acceptable range that specializes in the storage,

transport and preservation of fish exporting goods. Overall monitoring and management

system are adopted with the sufficient resources are available in sustainable manner. To export

fishery products by monitoring the various fish handling and hygienic quality fish. The

government has ensure that taken various feasibility accounts to provide Cold Chain Facilities

(CCF) and promoting export of fish and fishery products by facilities on shore infrastructure

development with an excellent standards.
