Nuclear Physics Internship Goals

The individual is interested in Nuclear and High Energy Physics, seeking to deepen their understanding of fundamental particles and their interactions, particularly through an internship. They aim to study radioactive phenomena and particle accelerators, while gaining practical research experience. As a second-year undergraduate with no prior research experience, they believe this opportunity will enhance their knowledge and interest in the field.

My specific area of interest is Nuclear and High Energy Physics.

I would like to
gain more knowledge about the fundamental particles that make up the universe and
how they interact with each other. I have only a brief idea about the Standard
Model and hope that this internship shall help me gain a deeper insight about the
physics of the particles and the mathematics involved in it.

I would also like to do some experimental study of some radioactive phenomenon like
alpha decay, beta decay etc and their various applications like carbon dating. A
detailed study of the different types of particle accelerators and how they are
helpful in gaining information about the properties of different particles would be
welcome.

Since I am currently in my second year of undergraduate studies and have no prior

experience in the field of research, I think this internship shall be extremely
helpful for me in gaining the same. Studying the course subjects does not give much
insight into what it is really like to do original research on any subject and
taking part in a research internship shall not only kindle an interest in research
but also help me think in a way physicists should.
