This article by Milton M. Tyler and Marvin J. Fine is about an experiment done on school
psychological consultation. Both writers are very qualified psychologists which creates a
sense of credibility. The article explains the process of the experiment and how they did
it. The experiment consisted of comparing the difference between extensive
psychological consultation versus limited psychological consultation. They conduct an
experiment to help prove how important psychologists are in the world today. The results
of the experiment “strongly supported the intensive over the limited consultation, and any
consultation over no consultation” (Tyler, M. M., & Fine, M. J. ,1974) which only
directly supports the importance of psychologists. Even though we are not really
provided with pathos in this source, logos, fortunately, are prevalent through the
conclusions made based on the results and statistics of the experiment. This source was
also brought to us by people who are in the psychological field with one writer being a
coordinator and the other an associate professor.

This artifact is the fourth volume of its kind edited by Walter Sinnott-Armstrong and has
over 30 contributors. It’s about the new advancements made in psychology and
eliminating issues that have arisen with newfound information. For instance, the book
states that “Psychologists discovered unconscious and irrational influences on human
action, and neuroscientists discovered neural causes that conflict with what seems to be
going on when we choose and act” (Walter Sinnott-Armstrong. (2014). It provides
arguments, debates, and all sorts of questions based on the new discoveries made by
psychologists through different perspectives of each topic. I have chosen this artifact
because it expresses my topic, the importance of psychology. This artifact has been
contributed by other psychologists, spilling their knowledge on these pages, relating to
my topic, the importance of psychologists. This source uses ethos all throughout the work
as uses quotes, conversations, and arguments from popular or influential philosophers
and scientists. It also uses logos by providing plenty of information along with the many
different minds that have helped contribute to it. Unfortunately, this source lacks pathos
as it is mainly informative.

 This article was written by Michelle L Washington, Stephen Truscott, and Artesia
Franklin explaining the benefits of funding and offering grants have on psychologist
training. The article mainly was referring to the OSEP-PP grants and how this funding
source may help school psychology programs meet professional demands through
recruitment and enhanced training” (Washington, M. L., Truscott, S., & Franklin, A.
(2020)). Furthermore, the article is fairly lengthy and even includes multiple charts and
graphs. The source is really extensive and goes in depth with the topic of funding
psychology training. Even though the article does not include pathos it is still a reliable
source since it just has so much information and does a great job providing evidence
which is in the form of logos. The article also provides ethos as it was provided by three
members of the Department of Counseling and Psychological Services.

This newspaper article from Oakland Post provides insight on the recent demand in
mental health professions. The article quotes Jaseon Outlaw, licensed psychologist, and
clinical director, as he talks about the need for more people in mental health professions.
This article is very recent and uses the perspective of a licensed psychologist. He very
clearly uses his credibility to his advantage and even makes statements that start with “as
a psychologist myself” (Outlaw, Jaseon,Ph D., N.C.C. (2022, Apr)) which is a great
example of how ethos is used in this source. Not only was ethos present but the source
also included some logos when referring to how much psychologist make. The source
even makes an effort to use pathos by bringing up how your family or someone close
may need you. The source relates well to how important psychologists are becoming with
the effects of COVID-19 and how rapidly the world has been changing. What makes this
source reliable is that it is from the perspective of an actual psychologist and can help
answer why psychology or psychologists are important.

This visual performed by Martin Seligman and directed by Films Media Group is a 24-
minute visual aid that brings up the benefits from psychology. Dr. Seligman speaks in
front of an audience about the state of psychology, what it has done for us, and what it
will become in years to come. He also had said that “psychology and psychiatry of the
last 60 years can actually claim that we can make miserable people less miserable”
(Martin Seligman, 2008) as he explained the good that had come from psychology. Since
the speaker is talking to an audience, he does an excellent job of appealing to whoever
watches the video. However, the video looks a little outdated because of the quality. He
uses pathos by humoring the audience in the beginning to keep them engaged. This video
is a reliable source since what is being said is coming from a person with credibility
which is also a form of ethos. Seligman on multiple occasions had brought up different
past experiments and results as logos to express the improvement and benefits of
psychology.
