Dotted Notes

A dot increases the value of the note by ½ of the original note value.

Therefore, a dotted half note has 3 beats.

Therefore, a dotted quarter note has 1 ½ beats.

TIME SIGNATURE
The numbers you see at the beginning of each music is called time signature. The top number
indicates the number of beats in each measure. The bottom number indicates what note
receives the beat.
