I. Objectives

At the end of the 50 minutes discussion, the Grade 7 students are expected to:

1. define what is proverb;


2. interpret English proverbs;
3. give examples of proverbs.

II. Subject Matter

Reference: English 7 Learning Plan (page 22-26)
Materials: Chalkboard, pictures

III. Methodology

A. Activities

1. Prayer and checking of attendance


2. Motivation
 Present three pictures to the class.
 Ask the class as to what saying or proverb can they give out of the
picture.
 Ask them what other proverbs do they know and what do they get from
these proverbs.
 Explain that a proverb is a short popular saying which contains some
familiar truth of useful thoughts. It is generally in clear expressive
language.

3. Presentation
 Explain that there are three main verb tenses; past, present and
future. Each tense is divided into; simple, continuous, perfect and
perfect continuous. But in this lesson, they will focus at the simple
tenses in the past, present and future.
 The present tense may express an action that is repeated or
ongoing. It can also express an action that is happening at this
moment or a situation that is always true.
 The past tense expresses an action that has already happened. In
regular verbs, the past tense is formed by adding –ed or –d to the
base form. In irregular verbs, the past tense takes a variety of
forms.
 The future tense expresses an action that will take place in the
future. The future tense is formed by adding will to the base form.

4. Analysis
 Present a story that has no verb tense consistency.
 Let the students rewrite the story using the past tense form and
present it to the class.

5. Abstraction
 Open the class for queries and clarification
 If all are clarified, ask the students the following questions:
o What are the three main tenses of the verb?
o How will you differentiate the three?
o Why is it important to be consistent with the use of tenses in
our writing and in our daily conversations?
o Explain that changes in verb tense can help the reader and
listener understand when something is happening at a
different time. But unexpected or inconsistent shift in tense
can be confusing for the readers and listeners.

IV. Evaluation

Write the past, present, and future tense of the given verb. Refer to the example
below.
Example: See

Past tense - I saw Chris yesterday


Present tense - I see Chris at work.
Future tense - I will see Chris at the party this evening.
