MONTAGE - CALM BEFORE - DAY Black. LUKE (V.O.) Looking back, it all seems unreal. A clock ticks. The sound of the clock ticking continues ominously throughout. A student drums their fingers on a desk. Another student taps their foot at a fast rate. LUKE Anticipation. The halls and parking lots are empty. LUKE Tension. The clock ticking stops. There is a second of silence, and then an incredibly loud and sustaining bell ringing. LUKE Release. The same empty hallways and parking lots explode with students. MONTAGE - GATHERING - DAY There are various groups of students about around the entrance of the school. Students text away on their cell phones, some call, and others just talk. But all are trying to organize their friends to do something. Images from this scene intercut through the following scenes. EXT. - SIDEWALK - DAY CHRIS is walking towards the parking lot. His phone rings. CHRIS Whats up? Yeah totally. Who else be coming? EXT. - PARKING LOT - DAY Chris and ERIC walk toward Chriss car. Right as Eric is about to open the passenger door, SARA runs up. SARA SHOTGUN!

ERIC The hell with that! Eric and Sara fight for the seat as two young brothers would. INT. - CAR - DAY While Eric, Sara, and Chris are all in the car, each is in their own world: Sara texts away on her phone at a dazzling rate, Eric makes countless call after call, and Chris is entranced into the calmness of driving. ERIC Hey man, want to hang? The what? With whom? ERIC Steve cant. CHRIS Why? ERIC Hes an ass. EXT. - SIDEWALK - DAY Luke walks home as various cars drive by. A car of students drive by with a passenger sticking their head out the window. PASSENGER Fag! Luke stops and watches the car escape from view. He sighs and continues. INT. - CAR - DAY Sara throws down her phone in disgust. SARA Okay. Its official. All our friends suck. ERIC What else is new CHRIS Did anyone try Alex?

ERIC Really? Alex? How desperate are we? MONTAGE - EMPTY HOME - DAY At this point all intercuts stop. A newly moved into house. Instead of furniture there are countless boxes. On one box sits a photo of a young Luke and his mother. On the kitchen table sits a pizza box. INT. - HOUSE - DAY Luke enters the house. Luke sits his back pack down by the front door and continues into the kitchen. As he enters the kitchen he notices a note on the fridge that says: "Shift til 12, leftovers on table". He sees the pizza box and opens it, which reveals a half eaten and not so appetizing pizza. He closes the box and continues to his room. INT. - CAR - DAY Eric violently throws his phone into the back of the car. ERIC Thats it. I give up. Ive literally tried EVERY person in my contacts. This is so lame. SARA Dont be such a girl. ERIC Go choke. CHRIS Hold on a sec. I might know a guy who could join us. SARA Who? INT. - BEDROOM - DAY Luke enters his room. He turns on his TV and puts on a channel that plays an old Black & White movie. He lays down on his bed.

INT. - CAR - DAY CHRIS New kid that I met in class. ERIC And? CHRIS I dunno. Hes just...interesting. INT. - CLASSROOM - DAY Chris, Luke, and other students inhabit a mostly silent classroom. A teacher sits at his desk reading. Chris has his head down on the table. A student is doodling. Another listens to music through their headphones, and another is texting. Chris pulls his head up and looks at the clock. He sighs. As he is about to put his head down he hears the sound of quick writing. Luke writes away in his notebook. Chris looks over to see what hes writing, but Luke looks up right as Chris is leaning over. The two awkwardly stare at each other. CHRIS Hi. LUKE (barely audible) Hi. Luke goes back to his writing. Chris shrugs and puts his head back down. INT. - BEDROOM - DAY Luke watches TV, but soon his eyes drift off and come across a framed photograph of his mother sitting on a nearby box. He picks it up and looks at it. EXT. - CEMETERY - DAY - LUKES VISION Luke is dressed in a black suit. There are tears being shed, but its not revealed who is crying. There is a tombstone with flowers next to it. The same tombstone is show again and again, each time with a different bouquet.

INT. - CAR - DAY CHRIS Were working together on a project so I have his number. ERIC Name? CHRIS Luke. ERIC You have like four different Lukes in here. CHRIS I think his last name started with a M. ERIC None of the last names start with a M! INT. - BEDROOM - DAY Luke gets up from his bed. He takes the photo and exits. INT. - BATHROOM - DAY Luke puts the photo down and washes his face. Luke goes to get a cloth to wipe off when he accidentally knocks the photo down into the sink. LUKE Shit! The frame is cracked and water has seeped into the picture. INT. - CAR - DAY ERIC Luke Ferris? Why do you have his number? Hes a mega-douche. CHRIS Hes a nice guy. But thats not him, no. ERIC Luke Pierce?

CHRIS Maybe? INT - BATHROOM - DAY Luke looks at the ruined photo. He puts it down and slams his fists on the sink. It rattles a razor from the top of the mirror. Luke grabs the razor and stares at it. The phone rings. Luke sighs and runs out of the room. INT - BEDROOM - DAY Luke enters, throws the razor down, and grabs the phone. LUKE Hello? EXT. - HOUSE - DAY Luke exits his house. Chris and the gang are waiting in his car thats pulled up in the street. CHRIS Hey man! LUKE Hey. INT. - CAR - DAY Luke enters the car. Sara assaults him with an enormous smile. SARA (Loudly) HEY! Whats up! Im Sara, thats Eric, and of course you know Chris! LUKE (Sheepishly) Hi. ERIC Greetings. CHRIS Welcome to the Gang, Luke. Its going to be a good night, I know it. ERIC Where are we going anyway?

INT. - CAR - LATER The gang drives down the treacherous St. Paul Road. With each sharp turn brings more uncertainty about whether or not the car will stay on the road. ERIC Christ! This place better be worth getting killed for. CHRIS Trust me, youll love it when you see it. SARA Crappy roads always lead to cool places. Its a known fact. Luke looks out the window. Silence. CHRIS So Luke. Write much? LUKE Huh? CHRIS In class. All you do is write in your notebook. LUKE Yeah. I...I like to write. ERIC Do you want to be a writer or something? LUKE Yeah, I guess so. CHRIS (Slamming fist on horn) Dammit! ERIC (To Chris) Suck it! LUKE What?

CONTINUED: CHRIS Oh. This sounds cruel now, but Eric and I made a bet. Practical degree or impractical degree. Practical being something like, I dont know, business or math or something like that. Impractical being your philosophy, your English, your Art. You know, the fun ones. SARA Dont worry. Youre in a car full of future unemployed college graduates. CHRIS Hey now, Ive yet to decide what I want to do in college. The only passion I have is not something I can exactly turn into a career. LUKE Whats that? CHRIS Legend Tripping, my boy, Legend tripping. Land ho! Chris brings the car to a stop. EXT. - KKK HOUSE The gang exit the car. ERIC Well? (Mockingly) Whats so cool, Chris? CHRIS Look over there. Across the field.

Across a field is a very creepy looking old house. The very sight of it sends chills. SARA Goddamn. Just Goddamn. CHRIS It gets better. That house is an abandoned KKK house. A couple hundred years ago some pretty gruesome and evil things happened in it.

ERIC Bull shit. Urban legend bull shit. CHRIS Maybe. But still creepy. Lets go. SARA You want to go there? Are you insane? CHRIS A bit. Cmon. ERIC We could be busted for trespassing... SARA Shh!! There is a moment of silence. SARA Did you hear that? ERIC What? A strange sound. Everyone freaks out. ERIC Shit! LUKE Im getting into car now. Every member of the gang gets into the car but Chris. CHRIS Cmon! INT. CAR - DAY - LATER The gang are back on the road. CHRIS You guys suck. ERIC Whatever man, I wasnt about to get arrested to satisfy your creepy fetishes.

SARA Shh! Everyone shut up and listen, this next song is amazing. Sara reaches and entitled "Summer to Luke with the ambient piece of turns up the volume. A homemade CD case Dream" sits near the stereo. She looks back hope that he too will love the song. An music starts and the audio mutes.
INT./EXT. SUBURBIA - DAY/NIGHT - SHENANIGANS The ambient music continues throughout the montage. The gang drive through various streets and places in suburbia. Whenever they pass someone walking along the road they honk, wave, and shout at them. Each time the gang erupts into laughter. Chris stops the car in front of a random house. Eric exits and sneaks up to the porch. He rings the door bell and begins to run off. However, Chris drives off, and Eric is left alone. He runs after the car, middle finger raised. In the back of the car, Sara and Luke look out the back window, laugh, and smile at each other. Later, they stop at a elementary school playground. The gang gets out and run towards the playground. They proceed to play on the playground. Eric jumps off a high point on the play ground to look tough. Chris tops him by climbing to some point even higher and more dangerous. Luke and Sara are on the swings. They talk, and although no dialogue is distinguishable, its obvious that theyre flirting. Chris brings the gang back to his car. He opens his truck to reveal an obnoxious amount of fireworks. The gang proceeds to light various fireworks off. Again, Eric and Chris try to out stupid each other by setting off fireworks in the most idiotic and cool ways possible. Sara sets off a firework but as soon as it it explodes she burst out laughing both in fear and in delight. Eric and Chris continue to set off fireworks, but Sara and Luke just watch. The group continue to drive around as the sun sets. Soon, it is dark. The group head to an ice cream parlor. EXT. - CAR - NIGHT The gang is eating ice cream. Chris and Eric sit on the car, and Luke and Sara sit on the ground, again talking and flirting.

ERIC Not a better way to spend a Friday night, man. Not a better way. Good times, good friends. And good grub. CHRIS (mockingly) Amen brother. ERIC (smiling) Go to hell. Eric and Chris both look back up to the night sky. Below them, Luke and Sara hold hands. EXT. CAR - NIGHT Luke exits the car. Chris and Luke exchange waves. LUKE Cya! Sara rushes out of the car. SARA Hold on! Sara grabs Luke and gives him a enormous hug that nearly shakes his foundation. Unknown to him, she slips a mix tape in his messenger bag at the same time. The two stare at each other for a second. SARA Night. LUKE Night MONTAGE - REFLECTIONS A clock shows the time: midnight. Images of the cold pizza, ruined picture, boxes, and razor. LUKE (V.O.) Some nights just never leave you. Flash to footage from the night.

LUKE Nights that are remembered like perfect photographs with perfect smiles. The kind you rarely see come out of people. Luke walks through the house. LUKE Nothing comes close to that feeling. Luke looks through his messenger bag and comes across the mix CD case from before. LUKE The kind that thinking about makes your soul swell. He opens it and finds a piece of paper in it that has a phone number and a smiley face written on it. Luke smiles. LUKE The feeling of being apart of something. He taon and finds the razor from before on top of the stereo. He picks it up and looks it over. Luke hesitates. Images of the night flash quickly. LUKE When you just feel invincible and everlasting. Luke throws it in the trash can and puts on the CD. He lays down on his bed and looks up to the ceiling as music begins to play. LUKE (V.O.) When you just feel... Black. Pause. LUKE Infinite
