Day 1 - Introduction
What is SCCM
System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM, also known as ConfigMgr),[1] formerly Systems
Management Server (SMS)[2] is a systems management software product developed by
Microsoft for managing large groups of computers running Windows NT, Windows Embedded,
MACOS (OS X), Linux or UNIX, as well as Windows Phone, Symbian, iOS and Android mobile
operating systems.[3] Configuration Manager provides remote control, patch management,
software distribution, operating system deployment, network access protection and hardware
and software inventory.

Feature Names Description
Application Management Provides a set of tools and resources that can help you to create, manage, deploy and
monitor applications in the enterprise.
Software Update Management Provides a set of tools and resources that can help you to manage, deploy and monitor
software updates in the enterprise.
Operating System Deployment Provides a tool to create operating system images. You can then use these images to deploy
them to computers that are managed by configuration manager and to unmanaged
computers, by using PXE boot or bootable media such as a CD, DVD or USB flash drives.
Compliance Setting Management Provides a set of tools and resources that can help you to assess, track and remediate the
configuration compliance of client devices in the enterprise.
Endpoint Protection Provides security, antimalware and windows firewall management for computers in the
enterprise.
