LYCEUM OF ILIGAN FOUNDATION
Corpus Christi Village, Tubod, Iligan City
College of Arts and Sciences
Math 2
2nd Semester
S.Y. 2010- 2011
I. Course Title : Introduction to Statistics
II. Credit : Three (3) Units
III. Course Description : As an introductory course, this subject shall introduce the students to the basic concepts, principles and methods in
Statistics. As this course is primarily designed to cater midwifery and nursing students, it shall include topics and highlight exercises that are relevant to
health researches. It discusses the importance of collection and presentation of quantified facts and introduces the students to the different counting
techniques, probability of events, measures of central tendency, variability and correlation of a collected set of data. Health survey/research shall also be
introduced to students.
IV. Prerequisite : Math 11
V. General Objectives : At the end of the semester, the students are expected to:
1. Identify the basic statistical methods of analysis;
2. Recall the different counting techniques;
3. Identify the concept of statistical test of hypothesis;
4. Determine the methods for analyzing categorical data.
5. Calculate the various measures of central tendency, variability, correlation and probability;
6. Prepare a frequency distribution table;
7. Apply the various ways of collecting data for a statistical research;
8. Present data using the textual, tabular and graphical methods.
