An adjective is a word that modifies a noun or a pronoun by providing additional


information that answers the questions: what kind, which one, how many, and how
much. Knowing this basic definition of describing word is very essential in your writing
and speaking activity. Now, you are going to deal with the different kinds of adjectives
together with their simple yet clear explanations.
Remember:

Do not use “the” with the names of countries/territories (except for the Philippines,
the United States, etc.), cities, towns, states, streets, lakes and bays, mountains,
continents, and islands.

Do use “the” before the names of rivers, oceans, seas, points on the globe,
geographical areas, deserts, forests, gulfs and peninsulas.

LESSON5.2: COMPARISON AND POSITION OF ADJECTIVES

An adverb is a word that is used to change, modify, or qualify an adjective, a verb, a


clause, and even another adverb. This is with an exemption of not modifying any noun
in a sentence.

For you to be able to understand more what adverb is, you have to think of the
following:

 Adverbs provide context since it offers the description of how,


when, where, in what manner, and to what extent something is
done.

 You can easily spot an adverb if there is a word in a sentence that


ends with -ly. But not all adverbs. There is still a lot of adverbs that
do not end with -ly.

 Adverbs can be used in many combinations with each other.
