Chapter 10: School and Community Relations and Linkages and
School Climate and School Culture
CONSIDER
Activity 1. During your stay in school up until now, enumerate programs/projects/situations
when community is involved in your school? Give a short background of the
program/project/situations.
“It takes a village to raise a child.”
We have to face the fact that nowadays, the meaningful learning isn’t confined inside the classroom
anymore. With the flipped classrooms, work immersion, internships, travel, field education, early childhood and
early college programs have blurred boundaries and expanded opportunities for the learners. Whereas those blurred
boundaries used to activate the cities as a classroom now the world has become a classroom.
Some schools are even creating global campuses providing international opportunities and connectivities
for students and families.
Certainly, the African proverb mentioned earlier, “It takes a village to raise a child” is true.
At the end of the lesson, you should be able to explain what school and community partnership
means; discuss the legal and sociological bases of school and community partnership; and cite
examples of school-community partnerships.

Summary
It pays for the teacher in the classroom and community to establish linkages with local, national, and
international associations. While the list of these local, national and international association associations,
professional organizations and foundations is not exhaustive, the list comes in handy when you need assistance
from any of these groups. As a teacher, you are able to give better service to your students and to other education
stakeholders in the community if you are connected to a network of possible sources of education.
Establishing School Culture
Read the article on School Climate and Culture. Take note of the differences between School Climate and
School Culture. Do not go for the interview without reading the article.
