QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION:
A. In your opinion ,what constitutes a good life?
- In my opinion, good life is being contented and happy of what you have in life because being
contented means you are thankful and satisfied of what you have in your current life or
situation you are in. And on the other hand, living in a good life means you are living with
comfort and luxury house, cars and etc. with few problems or worries. In addition, Having a
good life also means of physical and emotional stable which means the human is living without
any health problems and no mental conditions (stress, problems). But based on the four pillars
of the good life the health, wealth, love, and happiness are the four major of life to achieve
good life.
B. How is the progress of science and technology a movement towards the good life?
- The science and technology have many functions in our daily lives for example, it helps us in
communicating with others over millions of miles away, it will make our life easier, and to
further understand the world these are just some example of the progress of science and
technology to achieve the good life. Technology leads us to a good life and also it doesn’t lead
us to a good life if we misuse it, so balance between technology and humans is important
technology should never overpower us. On the other hand, science and technology is like the
bridge for us to achieve our good life it made humans life simpler yet more interesting.
Watch the documentary short film ‘That Sugar Film (2015). Answer the following questions:
1. Discuss on how production and consumption of sugar affect your journey towards the
good life. How does unreflective consumption of goods – in case, sugar – affect human
life.
- Sugar increases the risk of chronic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes and heart disease
and may contribute to acne, weight gain, and high-blood pressure that affect towards
the good life. Based on the four pillars of the good life including health, wealth, love,
and happiness to achieve good life, health is affected of this overconsumption of sugar
to have a good life or worst to die. Unreflective consumption of goods in case, sugar
affect human life is making a person unhealthy through eating habits and eating too
much food high in sugar may lead to diabetes which affect our daily living to have a
good life.
1. What is the relationship between the good life and science
- They are both independent good life and science, and they affect each other like the concept
of c byause and effect because science and its research and invention have a great impact to a
good life of humans. And also, they are all things that science are made for happiness of
humans and also to reduce effort in doing things but also just like nature science is having
hazard also. Science has invented technologies that have helped people to have a good and
convenient life. Technologies such as computers, smartphones, and machinery opened
opportunities for people to seek jobs.
2. Based on the short film, does technology always lead us to the good life? How and Why?
- Based on the short film, technology is not always lead us to the good life. In the film, it is said
that if we remove all products that contained refined sugar in the store only 20% of the stock
would remain. In the film, there is a machine used by the filmmaker which is a juicer that
removes all the nutrients that fruits have and only extracts the sugar that’s in it. This is the
example that technology does not always lead us to the good life. Even though technology is a
big help to the humanity there are still a negative side of it, that’s why we should use
technology for better living experiences to avoid the misuse of the technology.
