II. COURSE DESCRIPTION:
• The Literacy Training Service as a component of the National Service
Training Program (NSTP) is intended to develop in the participating
college students the competencies needed to become teachers of
literacy and numeracy among non-readers in school, out-of-school
children, and even adults needing help in reading, writing, and simple
arithmetic. College students who complete this program may be called
upon to use their competencies in the service of the country as
required by the law (RA 9163).
• The LTS 1 is designed to enhance personality development and moral
standards through self-awareness, value formation, and leadership
skills, integrating common areas in NSTP like drug education, disaster
awareness, preparedness and management, environmental protection,
and national security concerns, as preparation for community work
which specifically, is the teaching of basic literacy (reading and
writing) numeracy (use of numbers). It is utmost importance that the
youth enrolled in LTS 1 learns to understand the needs of a basically
illiterate individual, who not only lacks the skills in communication but
most likely suffer from feelings of inadequacy and incompetence. The
students striving for their own personality improvement will go a long
way to preparing them for teaching basic literacy and numeracy.
IV. COURSE OBJECTIVES:
• Gain competency on the true meaning of RA 9163 as a law developing
the youth in building the nation.
• Internalize the value of service to the country, public accountability,
industriousness, perseverance, integrity and the spirit of volunteerism.
• Acquire leadership skills and its destiny effects on the socio-economic
cultural growth and development of a citizen.
• Teach literacy and numeracy among the children , adults and other
related group
• Imbibe with a deep sense of good citizenship values, responsibility to
render service to the country particularly teaching literacy and
numeracy.

• Online Test will be conducted during preliminary, midterm and
final examination.

II. COURSE DESCRIPTION
The NSTP 2-Literacy Training Service is a sequel to NSTP 1 – LTS. It is
the community immersion phase to provide opportunity for students to
participate actively and come up with programs and activities. It is designed
to enhance the ethics of service amongst student trainees to contribute for
the general welfare and betterment of life in the community. It also intends
to improve facilities and mobilize resources devoted for the Citizenship
Training, Drug Education, Disaster Awareness Preparedness, Environmental
Protection, National Security, Self and Filipino Society, Volunteerism, Peace
Education, Dimensions of Development, and Literacy and Numeracy Training
Skills.
III. COURSE OBJECTIVES
At the end of the semester, the students are expected to:

1. Identify and internalize the dynamics of community immersion;
2. Gain knowledge and develop skills in planning, implementing,
monitoring and evaluating community projects/activities;
3. Apprise the students of their roles as community citizens and
members of the National Service Reserve Corps (NSRC).
4. Capacitate the students in the assumption of their citizenship roles
and performance of their functions as NSRC reservists particularly
in organizing school/community –based NSRC units in their
respective institutions/communities as partner in sustaining the
need of a ready group to be mobilized in case of
calamity/emergency
5. Evaluate the competence of the students they acquired.
