Project Proposed: Merchandise Assortment Planning for Retail stores
Description of Project in brief: Merchandise Assortment Planning is effectively planning and executing unique storelevel assortments as to what merchandise to purchase and in what quantity. Assortment planning is both extremely important and challenge for retailers. The term Assortment can be defined as the combination of all products made available in a store and a set of products offered within a product category. These products form a set because they share similar physical characteristics. Assortment Planning involves determining the quantities of each product that will be purchased to fit into the overall merchandise plan. Details of color, size, brand, materials, etc. have to be specified. The main purpose of creating an assortment plan is to create a balanced assortment of merchandise for the customer. .The retailers policies with respect to the type of brands stocked and the level of exclusively to be maintained in the store also affect the merchandise buying decisions. Thus, after arriving at the amount of money available to invest in inventory, a merchandiser would have to determine the variety of merchandise.
Objectives of the Project:
The variety and assortment of merchandise offered by a store play a major role in attracting customers. Understanding the merchandise assortment planning concept and process To study about customers preferences. To analyze product requirement of consumers from provision store, superstore etc. with frequent use.
And apart from these all stated objectives foremost objective is to acquire the practical knowledge about the Merchandise Assortment Planning.
Methodology: The research method chosen are Secondary data research and survey methods. Secondary data research: This is concerned with the analysis of already existing data that is related to the research topic. Surveys: This is a research technique, which is used to gather information from a sample of respondents by employing a questionnaire. These surveys will be conducted among the: Store retailers Customers

Limitations of the Study:
Time constraint- The major limitation of this project is the time period for this Research. It is not possible to look in to each and every aspect of Merchandise Assortment Planning in such a short span of time People whom data will be collected can be biased on some time and because of lack of awareness and lack of knowledge people can give wrong opinions. Since the results will draw on the basis of Information which will be provide by the respondents; chance of response error might be possible. Disinterest of customers may generate non response while collecting data
