The purpose of this piece of writing is to discuss in a reflective manner, my experience with

the inaugural session of the English for Academic Purposes course. I will address the general
benefit I received on a personal level, and since I had taken the course before, I will try to
analyze the specific areas where the class has improved my professional outlook upon life as
an educator.

I remember the time when I was introduced to this course last year, it has been a journey full of
both positive and negative moments, but I have enjoyed it. EAP has introduced me to new
styles of writing, mainly argumentative, and has provided me with a chance to improve my
critical thinking skills and writing, as well as to realize my literary strengths and weaknesses.
Throughout the course, I felt as if my writing skills were improving, and that helped me to
become more confident with my writing.

In the first session, we were given a chance to discuss in groups what is An Academic English
and how can we distinguish it from other disciplines. Furthermore, the instructor taught us how
to use the Canvas tools as well as to identify the benefits and downsides of it. Lasting more
than 30 minutes, our discussion was carried out with some minor difficulties in accessing the e-
books and articles and thus it took us some time to get used to this feature and continue our
discussion. Nevertheless, the first part of the session has been deemed to run quite smoothly.

As a group activity, we were sent into breakout rooms on ZOOM to discuss the differences between

EAP, EMI, ESP and General English and put all our ideas on one presentation. At first, we struggled

with the fact that we did not know each other, and we did not know where to start. We wanted our

presentation to be thorough in information so that even the audience who had no prior knowledge

could get it, and as a result, we were able to give the imperative information about the topic.
