1. A 4-pole, 3-phase induction motor operates from a supply whose frequency is 50 Hz. Calculate:
a. the speed of rotating magnetic field of stator
b. speed of motor when the slip is 0.035
c. the frequency of the rotor currents when the slip is 0.04
d. the frequency of rotor currents at standstill
[Answer: 1500 rpm, 1447.5 rpm, 2 Hz, 50 Hz]
2. A 3-phase, 440 V, 25 kW, 50 Hz, 8-pole induction motor yielded the following data on testing:
No Load 400 V 8.7 Amps 1210 W
Blocked rotor 200 V 47.8 A 6050 W
The stator phase resistance is 0.42 Ω (star basis).Estimate the parameters of the circuit model.
[Answer: R2’ = 0.463 Ω, X1 + X2’ = 2.25 Ω, Rc = 132.2 Ω, Xm = 27 Ω]
3. For the operation of induction motor of Q6, calculate
(i) Line current, power factor at 710 rpm
(ii) Line current and power factor at starting.
[Answer: 29.3 A at power factor = 0.87 lag; 103.6 A at power factor = 0.343 lag;
Note: Standstill current is very high and power factor is very poor, why ?]
