Display
The display shows the current room temperature via the built-in sensor of the VRF HMI unit
(factory setting). Alternatively, temperature setpoint or temperature value from VRF indoor
unit can be used for the display (P06)

8
Siemens A6V12071353_en--_b
Smart Infrastructure 2021-12-15
For VRF mode, indicates Auto VRF mode, indicates cooling, indicates heating,
indicates ventilation and indicates dehumidification.

Setpoint adjustment and limitations

The factory setting for the basic setpoint is 21 ℃. The setpoint can be adjusted via the +/-
buttons. The minimum (P09) and maximum (P10) setpoint limitations can be used to save
energy.
There are two different concepts below:
P09<P10 (comfort concept) - typical use case for VRF indoor unit
If the minimum setpoint (P09) is set below the maximum setpoint (P10), the heating setpoint
can be adjusted between these two limits. The users desired setpoint and the VRF HMI unit
provides the setpoint setting to the VRF indoor unit controls the room temperature according-
ly.

P09≥P10 (energy saving concept)

If the minimum limit P09 is set above the maximum limit P10
● The setting range of heating setpoint is 5 ℃…P10 rather than 5…40 ℃.
● The setting range of cooling setpoint is P09…40 ℃.
As a result, the maximum heating setpoint or minimum cooling setpoint can be limited, thus
saving energy and lowering costs.

Keylock
Keylock can be activated or deactivated via parameter P14 (see Control parameters [▶ 6])
when the unit is in ON and OFF mode.
Operating modes
The following operating modes are available:

Normal mode
In Normal mode (ON), the VRF HMI unit displays the room temperature value, available user
selection and status of the VRF indoor unit.

To save energy, the minimum (P09) and maximum (P10) setpoint can be set for limiting the
available setpoint range.

OFF mode
In OFF mode, VRF indoor unit is turned off.

ECO mode
When ECO mode is selected, the VRF outdoor unit runs in an energy saving mode. Only
one VRF HMI unit can be set as master unit or a master controller is used to select ECO
mode.

Timer with delay Off mode

In timer with delay Off mode, the timer starts counting down according to the set hour when
parameter P28 is enabled. When the timer expires, the device automatically turns off.
1. Activation of timer with delay Off mode
When P28=1, press and hold for more than 3 seconds to enter delay Off timer mode.
2. Setting the timer with delay Off mode
– A preset value (1h) is displayed after entering delay Off timer mode.

9
Siemens A6V12071353_en--_b
Smart Infrastructure 2021-12-15
– Use + or - to change the time up to 23 hours with a 0.5 h increment or decrement re-
spectively.
– Press (✓) to confirm the change. The device automatically exits delay Off timer
mode or press ( ) to return to previous step.
– Or press ( ) to exit delay Off timer mode without saving changes and to return to
Normal mode.
3. Cancellation of timer with delay Off mode
Cancel by setting the timer to 0 hour.
4. Viewing or editing of timer with delay Off mode

– Press and hold down for more than 3 seconds to view the remaining time.
– Use + or - to change the time and press (✓) to confirm the new value.
– The timer runs according to the new value.

Operating mode setting upon power failure

If the VRF HMI unit is disconnected from AC 230 V and reconnected, the unit returns to the
operating mode before powering failure if P27=0. If P27=1, the unit is in OFF mode. If
P27=2, the unit resumes Normal mode (ON).
Typical Modbus / VRF gateway configuration
The Modbus master function includes the following two:
● 1-to-1 Modbus/VRF gateway with Modbus master function (usually customized product
by gateway suppliers)

10
Siemens A6V12071353_en--_b
Smart Infrastructure 2021-12-15
● 1-to-n Modbus/VRF gateway with Modbus master function or an additional Modbus mas-
ter unit

The Modbus master manages communication between VRF HMI units (slave function) and
the Modbus gateway to ensure proper operation. When using a Modbus gateway without
Modbus master function, an additional Modbus master unit is required.
Note RDF280 does not have termination resistor.

For VRF systems with multiple indoor units

If its VRF outdoor unit (2-pipe system) can only support either heating or cooling control se-
quence each time, only Modbus master or VRF HMI units selected as Master unit can select
the fixed heating or cooling control sequence for the VRF system.
● When heating mode is selected, the Modbus master also sets P01 of each connected
VRF HMI slave unit = 4 (HEAT/FAN) only.
● When cooling mode is selected, the Modbus master also sets P01 of each connected
VRF HMI slave unit = 5 (COOL/FAN/Dehumidification) or 6 (COOL/FAN) depending on
VRF operating modes supported by the indoor units.
If, e.g., heating is selected, RDF280 can only select VRF operating modes: HEAT or FAN. If
cooling is selected, RDF280 can only select VRF operating mode: COOL, FAN or Dehumidi-
fication
If a VRF outdoor unit (4-pipe system) allows both heating and cooling control sequences se-
lected by individual indoor units, each connected VRF HMI unit can be preset with P01 = 0,
1, 2 or 3 according to the VRF operating modes supported by the indoor and outdoor units.
Note that some indoor units do not support AUTO or Dehumidification.
Disposal

The device is considered an electronic device for disposal in accordance

with the European Guidelines and may not be disposed of as domestic
garbage.
● Dispose of the device through channels provided for this purpose.
● Comply with all local and currently applicable laws and regulations.
