Science, Technology, and Society (STS) studies the interactions of scientific, technical, and social
variables in shaping modern life. This course brings together humanists, social scientists, engineers, and
natural scientists who are all devoted to looking beyond their specialties for new ideas and new
strategies to reach science and engineering students. Its purpose is to create a venue for discussing the
relationship between what scientists and engineers do and the limits, requirements, and responses of
society (MIT, 2021). I learnt to ask and answer critical questions like, "Why does modern science look
the way it does?", “What causes specific technologies and technical systems to develop, expand, and
become obsolete?”. “How do science and technology sometimes increase racial, gender, and
socioeconomic inequities, and how can they be adjusted to reduce them?”, “How do science and
technology influence society, and how do societies influence science and technology?”, and “How do
things starts and why does it exist?”
As an individual who is currently living in an age that is deeply influenced by the scientific and
technological revolution, STS has had a significant impact on my life simply because of the things I am
currently using. This laptop, cellphone, mouse, television, electric fans, lighting, energy usage, and other
devices enabled me to easily interact, submit my requirements, and complete my tasks. However, the
addiction it caused did not benefit me in any way. I stayed awake till 3 a.m. because I couldn't stop
myself from using it because of mobile games.
Furthermore, this course had a significant impact on me in terms of medicine, which is extremely
relevant in these times. The COVID-19 epidemic is still not over. The vaccines that the world now has are
the result of scientific advancement.
Overall, STS is the reason I'm here today. I wouldn't be here if it weren't for science and technology.
Technology has an impact on how people communicate, learn, and think. It benefits society and
influences how people connect with one another on a daily basis. It has made learning more interactive
and collaborative by allowing people to better engage with the topics they are learning and having
difficulty with. I can speak up and reach out to individuals who are far away, especially to stop the
spread of fake news. While science helps us live longer and healthier by monitoring our health,
providing medicine to cure our diseases, alleviating aches and pains, assisting us in providing water for
our basic needs – including our food, providing energy, and making life more enjoyable including sports,
music, entertainment, and the latest.
