Personalized Mirror Measurement Task

1) The document provides instructions for designing a personalized mirror for a family based on the heights of family members. 2) It asks the reader to calculate the ideal vertical elevation and height of the mirror so that all family members can see their full bodies in the mirror. 3) The reader is given a table to fill out with each family member's name, height, eye level, and the needed elevation and top mirror height for that person based on a diagram.

PERFORMANCE TASK 1

Quarter 4 Weeks 1-2

NAME: Score/ Rating:

GRADE LEVEL and SECTION:

STRAND:

SUBJECT: General Physics II

Geometric Optics
GOAL Your goal is to create a Measurement of a personalized
mirror for your home.

ROLE Interior Designer.

AUDIENCE The senior high school students of Honorato C. Perez,

Sr. Memorial Science High School will be your
audience.

SITUATION Your family decided to get a personalized mirror to be put in the

living room. The mirror should be high enough from the ground but
not so high that the shortest member of the family will still be able
to see his/her feet, and; tall enough so that the tallest member of the
family will still be able to see the top of his/her head while standing
in the front of the mirror; but the mirror should not touch the
ground nor the ceiling and the height of the mirror should be the
least needed height to thrift the budget.
PRODUCT/ Measurements of how tall must a full-length mirror be to
PERFORM ANCE be and its vertical elevation to be used for all your family
members

Instructions:
1. Ideal vertical elevation of the bottom of a plane mirror (line BD) so that the shortest family
member will still be able to see his/her whole body in the mirror but need not to be so low in
the ground.
2. Ideal vertical height of the top of the mirror (line FD) so that the tallest family member will
still be able to see his/her whole body in the mirror but need not to be so tall. 3. The ideal height
of the plane mirror to be used for all family members (length of line FB so that every family
member will be able to see his/her whole self in only one mirror). 4. Use this image as a reference
and fill the table of values below:
2

Name of Family Member Height in Eye level Personal Personal Personal

meters height/ least least needed
(GA) elevation needed needed mirror
(EA) elevation top mirror height (FB)
(BD) height
(FD)

Sheena 1.52 1.46 0.76 1.49 0.73

Jude 1.42 1.35 0.675 1.385 0.71

Julia 1.22 1.16 0.58 1.19 0.61

Jadon 0.74 0.67 0.335 0.705 0.37

You can add more rows if needed based on the number of household members.

Based on the following details above, answer the following questions below:
1. What is the least elevation (BD) that the mirror should have for the shortest family member to
be able to see himself/herself completely in the mirror? Show your solution.
0.335
EA = 0.67m/2
BD= 0.335
2. What is the least height of the top of the mirror (FD) for the tallest member of the family to be
able to see myself/herself completely in the mirror? Show your solution.

GE=0.06, 1/2GE=0.03 which is FH. EA+FH = FD

FD= 1.46+0.03

=1.49m

3. What is the needed height of the mirror (FB) for everyone in the family will see himself/herself
completely in only one mirror? Show your solution.
