Introductory Message

For the facilitator:

Welcome to the TLE 10 – Technical Drafting Module on Preparing

Plan Using CAD!

This Self-Learning Module was collaboratively designed, developed and

reviewed by educators from the Schools Division Office of Pasig City headed
by its Officer-in-Charge Schools Division Superintendent, Ma. Evalou
Concepcion A. Agustin, in partnership with the City Government of Pasig
through its mayor, Honorable Victor Ma. Regis N. Sotto. The writers utilized
the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum using the Most Essential
Learning Competencies (MELC) in developing this instructional resource.

This learning material hopes to engage the learners in guided and

independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Further, this also
aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills especially the 5
Cs, namely: Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, Critical Thinking, and
Character while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.

In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box
in the body of the module:

Notes to the Teacher

This contains helpful tips or strategies that
will help you in guiding the learners.

As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use

this module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while
allowing them to manage their own learning. Moreover, you are expected to
encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks included in the module.

For the learner:

Welcome to the TLE 10 – Technical Drafting Module on Preparing

Plan Using CAD!

This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and time.
You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning material while
being an active learner.

This module has the following parts and corresponding icons:

Expectations - This points to the set of knowledge and

skills that you will learn after completing the module.

Pretest - This measures your prior knowledge about the

lesson at hand.

Recap - This part of the module provides a review of

concepts and skills that you already know about a previous
lesson.

Lesson - This section discusses the topic in the module.

Activities - This is a set of activities that you need to

perform.

Wrap-Up - This section summarizes the concepts and

application of the lesson.

Valuing - This part integrates a desirable moral value in

the lesson.

Posttest - This measures how much you have learned

from the entire module.

Upon completion of this lesson, you are expected to:

 enumerate the different AutoCAD commands used in drawing a floor plan;
 describe different architectural terms used in architectural drawings; and
 attain understanding on the importance of planning.

A. Directions: Read each sentences carefully and write on the blank TRUE if the
statement is correct and FALSE if the statement is incorrect.

LESSON

LO2 PREPARE PLAN USING CAD

LO2.1 SET UP DRAWINGS ACCORDING TO STANDARD DRAWING SCALE AND
PAPER SIZE

LO2.1.8 PREPARING FLOOR PLAN (1 of 2)

Working drawings are prepared by an architect for a construction project, e.g., plans,
elevations, section, and details.

Plan is a two-dimensional graphic representation of the design, location and

dimension of the project, or parts thereof, seen in a horizontal plane viewed from
above.
8

A master plan of a house or any structure is also the designer’s prescription based
on the preferences and needs of his client

Floor Plan – a horizontal section taken above the floor approximately 1 meter above
the finished floor line to show the enclosing walls of a structure, doors and windows
and the arrangement of its interior spaces drawn diagrammatically.

This is the top view of the floor area of a house. The cutting plane line passes between
the upper and lower window sills. It represents the arrangement of rooms, doors,
windows, and other features located in the floor plan.

STEPS IN DRAWING FLOOR PLAN

1. Layout the position of exterior and interior walls.

Set the Center line layer to current.

 Command LA or LAYER [enter];
 Select the Center line layer;
 Click the Set current button;
 Close the Layer window.

Layout the center location of all exterior and interior walls using center
lines.
 Command L or LINE, or PL [enter];
 Draw a vertical line not shorter than the overall longitudinal size of the
house;
 Offset the line to the right with a distance equal to the size of each room or
partition (use Offset command);
 Draw another line from the top a bit longer than the overall horizontal size
of the house;
 Offset the line downward with a distance equal to the size of each room or
partition (use Offset command);
 Save your drawing.
Note: COPY command can also be used to layout walls.

Figure 2. Floor layout indicating center of walls/partition

10

2. Add the thickness of the walls. There are two common ways of making the
wall thickness in AutoCAD. One is by using the OFFSET command and the
other is by using the MLINE command.

Using OFFSET command

 Command O or OFFSET [enter];
 Select the center line;
 Click outside of the center line to make the offset:
 Enter 50 distance both sides for interior walls to make the thickness
100, & 75 distance both sides for exterior walls to make the thickness
150;
 Repeat the command until all the center lines be offset.
 When done, TRIM all the excess and overlapping lines to specify the
corners and intersections of walls (another way is by using the FILLET
command);
 Change the current layer to Wall layer;
 Select all the wall thicknesses and click on Wall layer at the layer
properties to change its properties from center line to wall.
 Save your drawing.

Figure 3. Wall thickness using OFFSET command.

11

Using MLINE command

 Change the current layer to Wall layer;

 Command ML or MLINE [enter];
 Select Justification and choose Zero [enter];
 Select Scale and enter 100 for interior walls, and 150 for exterior wall
[enter];
 Draw multilines on all the centerlines to create the thicknesses of the walls.
 Using MLEDIT command, use merged tee or open-tee option to clear the
intersection of walls;
 Save your drawing.

Figure 4. Wall thickness using MLINE command.

12

3. Locate the position of doors and windows by center line and by their
widths.

For windows:
 Draw a line at every center of walls of each room to make the center of
windows;
 Offset these lines at 600 to make the window 1200 width; (for T&B 600
total width, for kitchen 800-1000 total width);
 Save your drawing.

For doors:
 Offset the center lines of corner walls of Living area, Bedroom and T&B @
150 (use TRIM command for overlapping lines) [enter];
 Offset these lines @ 900 for main door, 800 for bedrooms and kitchen
door, and 600 for T&B door;
 Save your drawing.

Figure 5. Wall layout with doors and windows location.

13

4. Create doors and windows opening, (continuation on the next lesson)

For windows:
 Using lines for the overall width of windows as boundary lines, cut the wall
lines using TRIM command [enter];
 Perform this to all the window openings;
 Save your drawing.

For doors:
 Using lines for the overall width of doors as boundary lines, cut the wall
lines using TRIM command [enter];
 Perform this to all the door openings;
 Save your drawing.

Figure 6. Wall layout showing doors and windows openings.

5. Add doors and windows symbols (to be continued on the next lesson)
