FIELD VISIT ON KMCH COLLEGE OF NURSING

Introduction:

The KMCH College of nursing took its inception in the year 1993 as the first

educational institution of Kovai Medical Centre and Educational trust. Now the KMCH college

of nursing is blossomed into a full pledged post-graduation institution per excellence. The

college is attached to the Kovai Medical Centre & Hospital, which is a 1000 bed multi-

disciplinary super specialty hospital. The hospital is a well-known health center in the

southern part of India.

Vision and Mission:

The vision and mission of KMCH College of nursing is to offer graduate and post-

graduate nursing programme of high academic excellence by facilitating continuous growth

and all round development of the students and faculty. As a constituent college of Kovai

Medical Center Research and Educational trust, we promote research in nursing activity by

kindling the spirit of inquiry and innovation among students and faculty.

Milestones:

 1993 - Commencement of [Link]. Nursing programme at KMCH College of

nursing with 50 annual intakes.

 1999 - Commencement of [Link]. Nursing programme at KMCH College of

nursing in four specialties viz.

o Medical surgical nursing

o Child health nursing

o Maternity nursing

o Community health nursing

 2004 - Decennial year celebration with competition, conference.

 2005 - Conferred the ISO 9001: 2000 certification for complying with the

highest standards in providing International educational quality in nursing education.

 2006 - Inauguration of NSS unit in our College.

 2010 - Enhancement of [Link]. Nursing annual intake from 20 to 40.

 2010 - Approval for starting Post basic Diploma in nursing, Post basic diploma

in Emergency & Disaster nursing was obtained from Indian Nursing Council,

Tamilnadu Nurses and Midwives Council and CMAI board.

 2010 - Introduction of post basic [Link]. Nursing.

 2010 - Starting of psychiatric nursing specialty.

 2013 - Introduction of Ph.D. in medical surgical nursing.

 2013 - Commencement of Post basic diploma in Critical Care Nursing, Post basic

Diploma in Emergency & Disaster Nursing.

Eligibility:

 Only female candidates are eligible to apply.

 Candidates should have passed HSC or Equivalent examination with an

aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English. (for SC/St candidates not

less than 40% aggregate is essential)

 Should have completed 17 years of age as on 31st December of the admission

year.

Admission Requirements:

The following certificates/documents have to be submitted along with duly filled

application. (Original + 4 Photostat copies)

 Transfer certificate from the institution last studied.

 HSC/ Pre-Degree/ AISSCE/ ISCE/ CBSE/Intermediate/ Diploma mark statement.

 Vocational stream is not eligible for admission.

 Eligibility certificate obtained from the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R Medical University

(for students who have passed their qualifying other than HSC Examination,

Tamilnadu).

For NRI Candidates:

 NRI status of financial supporter issued by the Indian Embassy of the respective

country under their seal.

 Certificate of relationship between NRI financial supporter and the candidate

issued by the competent authority, valid Indian passport of the financial supporter.

 Original and copies of passport and visa of the candidate.

 NRE (Non Resident External) bank account pass book of the financial supporter.

To facilitate students learning through simulation & demonstration, the College has the

following labs equipped with all latest equipment’s and articles:

Library:

The college library presently has about 7091 books, 4158 titles, 271 journals,

magazines and 3755 CD’s. Newspapers and Journals are subscribed for the benefit of students
and teachers. The library has a separate collection of general reference, fictions, newsletters,

Post-Graduates thesis, journal reference, e-library facilities

Salient Features of Library:

 The library is kept open from 8am to 7pm on all working days.

 Our library is completely computerized and automation of all its operations.

 “Books are for use and not for preservation”. With this dictum our library

functions. Hence, the open access system is followed.

 The college library has a collection of 7091 volume of books, 4158 titles.

 It subscribes to about 48 international and national journals in various

disciplines of medicine, nursing and allied health sciences.

 Photocopying facility is available on the library. It provides invaluable services to

the students.

 A convenient spacious reading area with the 300 seating capacity is available

with the area 5392 Sq.F.

 Separate sections for text books, reference books, journals, periodicals, back

volumes, project reports and e-library with 20 computers.

 E-library to access thousands of journals and reference from the various sources

such Indian journal of medicines, New England journal of medicine,

 More than 3755 No. of CDs related to books, journals, various nursing

procedure manual are available in our library.

Seminar Hall:

The college has the seminar hall with latest audio and video equipments to

accommodate 150 persons.

Auditorium:

The multipurpose hall with a seating capacity of 200 to 1000 members is available to

conduct conferences, seminars, symposiums, workshops and guest lectures. These halls are

equipped with the latest audio-visual gadgets.

The hostel is located in the serene ambience is a home away from home for the students.

It is well furnished with all amenities to ensure comfort for the students. The wardens who are

residing in the hostel campus make sure that the students’ needs are met.

Canteen:

The college is a mélange of students from different cultures and backgrounds. Hence, to

cater the taste buds of the diverse student community, the multicusine provides dishes that are

not just tasty, but healthy and nutritious too.

Conclusion:

I am thankful for the work that everyone at the college has done to bring us to this

point. I know that the last four years have been extraordinary challenging. Whether it is

assessing students learning, outcomes, implementing additional student services in our centers,

participating in shared governance, collaborating toward improving our process, engaging in

difficult discussions or supporting tough decisions you stepped up time and again. By doing

this on a daily basis you have moved our college forward.
