Hazards at Rack Storage
Rack : A structure which is formed of connecting bars with each other either vertically or horizontally to support load on
it.
Racks are installed to optimize the material storage in the facility.
Pallets are used to store material on rack.
Flipkart Group is committed to the prevention of injury for
employees working near racks. For that, employees shall be
aware of hazards at rack storage

➢ Fall of material from racks while stacking
➢ Rack Collapse
➢ Deformation of rack due to overloading
➢ Protruding materials such as bolts, pallets on rack etc

Rack Safe Working Procedures
1 2 1. Guarding's – All racks shall be properly guarded.
2. Aisle Clearance – Adequate distance shall be maintained between guards and aisles
3. Load Stacking – Heavy loads shall be planned to stack at the lower levels at racks
and light loads to be stacked at the top of the racks.
3 4 4. Assessment –
• Weekly rack safety inspection shall be carried out based on checklist (refer
guideline)
• In case of, alteration to any part of the rack, load assessment to be carried out
before stacking at the other section of the racks.
5. Safe Working Load – Safe working load display charts shall be provided on each

rack and overloading of racks shall be strictly avoided.
6. Material Handling –
• Employees stacking materials at rack shall use appropriate lifting equipment’s
• Employees strictly shall not climb on racks or stand on lifting equipments
7 • Authorized operator shall only operate BOPT/AFL/Reach truck
7. PPE – PPE’s shall be worn by operator (Hi-Viz Jacket, Hard Helmet, Safety Shoes)

Incident Reporting - Tolerance Limit of Rack Damage
Risk Level : Severe
Status : Structural Damage
Situation where a critical level of damage is
identified at the racks, which requires immediate
removal of load from racks and isolation of racks
Risk Level : Moderate
Status : Dents
Situation where some dents are identified at
racks, safety guards etc.
On identification of same dents for over 1 month’s
period, would change the risk from “Moderate” to
“Severe”.
