INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
Globally, schools were closed to stop the virus spreading. One year into the
outbreak, about half of the world's students were affected. When COVID-19 came, life on
the planet changed, and so did the need for humans to stay inside. Children and teens
were immersed in a new environment that shaped their lives (Lixiana2020). The COVID-
19 outbreak in China has claimed thousands of lives internationally, putting public health,
food systems, and workplaces in jeopardy. The pandemic's economic and social effects
are devastating: tens of millions of people face extreme poverty, and the number of
undernourished people might climb by 132 million by year's end. The COVID-19
epidemic's economic impact impacts the health and well-being of families throughout the
nation, especially the 77 million children under 18. Low-income parents were less able to
work from home and had greater difficulty finding child care (Bill & Melinda Gates
Foundation et al., 2020).
The lockdown and home isolation caused by the COVID-19 epidemic resulted in
substantial changes in lifestyle. Being a parent in this circumstance was difficult for
anybody, much alone parents of special-needs children. The parents' challenges during
the epidemic include a lack of food and medications.
In the Philippines, the epidemic has devastated employment and put millions of
people's lives at stake. Many workers in the Philippines lose their employment, get sick,
and die, and the food security and nutrition of many parents are jeopardized as a result of
the epidemic. COVID-19 has had a significant impact on rural lives. Loss of income and
employment possibilities were the most pressing issues among disadvantaged areas in
the Philippines. Disaster-prone areas found it more difficult to cope with COVID-19
limitations and their severe economic effect (chriscaden 2020).
Food security, public health, and employment and labor concerns, particularly
worker health and safety, all intersect in the COVID-19 situation. Families' lives in
Cotabato City were abruptly and profoundly altered. The educational function of parents
for their children has grown critical in the home setting, and being a parent within their
house has changed. During the epidemic, many parents lost their primary source of
income, and they lost financial resources that would have met their demands (lippert
2021).
During a pandemic, many parents face painful stress, which may lead to violence
and poor mental health. The parents are dealing with emotional issues such as sadness
and loneliness, which are interfering with their parenting. The goal of this study is to look
at the challenges experienced by parents in Poblacion 1 Parang Maguindanao during the
COVID-19 pandemic and come up with feasible solutions to assist each and every family
deal with their concerns.
Statement of the Problem
The purpose of this research is to identify the problems faced by parents living in
Barangay Poblacion 1 Parang Maguindanao during the covid 19 pandemic year 2020-
2021.
Specifically, this aims to identify the following:
1. What is the socio-demographic profile of the respondents in terms of:
a. sex;
b. religion; and
2. What are the problems encountered by the respondents during the covid 19 pandemic
in terms of:
a. education;
b. health; and
c. finances?
3. What are the respondents' potential solutions to the difficulties encountered?
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK
The figure below shows the dependent and independent factors of the Problems
Experienced by Parents in Barangay Poblacion 1 Parang Maguindanao During the Covid
19 Pandemic.

The figure above depicts the connection between the study's dependent and
independent variables. The influencing elements in terms of Finance, Education, and
Health are shown in the independent variable. It is linked to the dependent variables,
which are the Problems Encountered by third year criminology students from three
selected schools in Parang, Maguindanao fro Academic Year 2022 – 2023.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The purpose of this study is to gather critical information and knowledge about the
selected issue from the respondents.
Specifically, this study will be beneficial to the following:
Local government This research may raise their awareness of the difficulties or
obstacles that their community faces.
Barangay officials This research may give them with a guideline for monitoring their
individuals and being aware of the challenges that the parents are encountering.
Parents This may enable them to continue caring for and standing up for their family
regardless of the difficulties they face.
Students This research may help students remember to think about the problems their
parents are facing and not to be a burden or to give or create them tension.
Future researchers It may also serve as a resource for those conducting research on the
subject.
SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
The research will take place at Parang, Maguindanao. This study's respondents will
be the third year criminology students from three selected schools in Parang,
Maguindanao. The following are the schools to be selected with 20 students from each
school: Illana Bay Integrated Computer College, Inc., Parang Foundation, and St,
Benedict College of Maguindanao. This research will solely look at the challenges faced
by the third year criminology students in Parang Maguindanao during the covid 19
epidemic.
DEFINITION OF TERMS
To develop better understanding of this study, the following terms have been
defined operationally in this context.
Covid-19 SARS-CoV-2 is an infectious illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The
majority of those infected with the virus will have mild to severe symptoms.
Education The parents should be the instructors of their children in order for them to
continue learning since they are the ones who are most impacted by the epidemic.
Finances the financial assistance required, particularly during the epidemic, to meet
people's requirements
Health A state of physical, mental and social well-being, not just the absence of disease
or infirmity.
Parent A person who looks after their children and meets their needs even if they face
difficulties during a pandemic.
Problems refer to concerns of the respondents on education, health, and finances.
Stress a state of mental or physical anxiety that parents experience as a result of losing
their employment at the period of lockdown.
