Reading
11. Read this online forum.
David I live out in the country with my family, and we all try to use our bikes or public
transportation instead of cars. People ask us how we manage, but it’s not too bad. In fact, my dad
says he wants to sell the car next year and not have one at all.
Alice We don’t buy anything that comes in plastic bottles, but we ask all our friends to give us
their old bottles. We cut off the tops and bottoms of the bottles and use them around small plants
in our garden. The bottles protect the plants until they grow bigger.
Josh We live near a forest, so we’re very lucky because we can go out and look for branches that
have fallen off the trees. We would never cut down trees, but if tree branches and sticks are on
the ground, we pick them up. We take the wood inside and burn it to keep our house warm.
Julia We’re vegetarians. However, we keep chickens for their eggs and we eat those. We feed
the chickens our leftover food every day. We don’t throw away any food because we give it to the
chickens.
Peter In my family, we try to consume as little energy and water as possible. We always turn off
the lights when we’re not in the room. And we have showers instead of baths. Baths use a lot more
water than showers do.
Are the sentences true (T) or false (F)?
1. David thinks life without a car will be OK.
2. Alice buys water in plastic bottles.
