1. What significant contribution can individual make in response to climate change?
One of the significant contributions an individual can make in response to climate
change is, to begin with, simple things like turning off the faucet if not in use and even
don’t spend a lot of time taking a shower by this, we can reduce further water
consumption by turning the water off while soaping. Aside from that less the
consumption of meat because livestock accounting contributes to greenhouse gases.
Same amount as the emission from all of the cars. Another thing is instead of using
vehicles as means of transportation in going to schools, markets, malls, and parks
especially if it is just within walking distance, we could just walk we are not only
helping the environment but as well as our health by reducing these additional gasses
pollution to the environment that risk our health and we could take this time to
exercise or we could ride bikes as well in means of transportation instead of walking.
In addition, we could also turn off our lights by consuming less power we reduce the
number of toxic fumes released by power plants conserve the earth’s natural
resources, and protect the ecosystem from destruction. We must also not forget the
3R’s, Reduce the amount of new stuff that we buy, reuse things like old bags in buying
groceries instead using multiple of plastics, and we need also to recycle if we have a
small garden, we could use this plastic bottles as a plant pot. The most significant
thing we can do is plant trees because one large tree can provide a base supply of
oxygen.
2. Is climate preventable? How?
No, we cannot prevent climate change but we could reduce its hazards. There are a lot of
factors that affect in changing our climate there are natural process and human activities
however, the highest contributor to this is the human activities that causes us to
experience global warming like a sudden change in the climate. In addition to that we
couldn’t prevent because of this development and progression of the society as well as
increasing number of populations their will also be an increase of demand to this
resources and result in overuse. What we could do is to reduce this hazard by starting to
conserve resources, reduce in emitting greenhouse gasses, stop deforestation and start
planting trees and don’t support any industries that burn fossil fuels.
3. What should be the significant contribution of the society as well as the government in
mitigating the hazards caused by climate change?
The significant contribution of the society, as well as the government in mitigating the
hazards caused by climate change, is limiting the amount of climate change with
occurs, primarily by reducing greenhouse gas concentration by reducing the constant
emitting of gasses from fossil fuels like vehicles and also reduce the factories that
greatly contribute in the emission. For example, this jeepney that we have in our
country emits too much gas maybe we could modify this by placing a filtration system
in the jeepney and we could replace this with eco-friendly transportation such as
battery works vehicles. The community and government could help by planting more
trees that can help reduce the carbon emission that causing the thinning of our ozone
layer. Avoid burning dry leaves and plastics because they can cause wildfire that has a
significant impact on our environment. Don’t throw or bore the used plastic bottle, we
can recycle or reuse them and apply proper waste disposal. The community must save
energy by alternating fossils with the energy of the sun might be an excellent idea to
decline the trend of overuse of resources like the solar panel to lighten our house at
night can save thousands of a megawatt of electricity. Stop cutting down the forest or
deforestation, this is one of the major reasons why the quality of air has degraded, the
loss of trees can cause climate change, soil erosion, fewer crops, flooding, and an
increase in greenhouse gasses. Unplug any appliances when not in use this is one of
the easiest ways to reduce energy consumption. The community must also conserve
water in this way of reducing the effect of climate change. In addition, the government
could do is to educate everyone about the danger and how to act against it.
1. Would you subject yourself for gene therapy without its 100% assurance of effectiveness or
future negative side effects?
I will not undergo gene therapy without assurance of effectiveness and more future negative
side effects that I will experience. For me it’s very risky, because it is still under study to make
sure it is safe it seems like allowing myself to be an experimental work or digging my own pit. I
will not literally die but it is me dying, killing who I am, we don’t know it might also cause death
because of this foreign materials or virus that could be used to be a carrier that will be a cause
of inflammation and infection. I rather stand by my gene because that makes who I am and
defines me. If ever change my gene arrangement and replace it with a new one it could alter my
current state or worsen my condition. I’m afraid that through these procedures since it will be
replacing or adding new genes my other original genes will all be affected and might vanish or
rearrange and directly affect my well-being. Instead of this led to treatment or cure, it will
aggravate or create another type of condition. I will would like relate human body to a
computer, our computers contain different codes or programs so that they will work. This
computer code will program the computer how it will function, its features, and characteristics.
But what if we tried to rearrange the codes because we wanted to apply the same format of an
updated version of other new computers and replace it. What could potentially happen is it will
either die or malfunction because of its non-incompatibility. Personally, I would rather die
naturally than undergo this gene therapy that could worsen my condition because there are still
experimenting trying to see if it will work or not. I would allow myself to be a subject for this
experimentation instead of providing a good life for me I’m afraid that it will turn out worst.
Maybe if I have hereditary disease, I will just live with it, rather living in worst because its future
negative side effects not only that maybe it turns out good right now but will experience the
consequences afterwards it just the same thing and anxious that it might be pass on to my
children.
2. Should gene therapy be limited to medical concerns or could it be used for aesthetic purposes?
Based on the option Gene therapy should only be limited to medical use rather than used for
aesthetic purposes. If gene therapy is used for aesthetic used people will tend to abuse it and
people will continue to modify their selves and there might become a point that humans will not
look natural anymore, especially if germline therapy will permit and this gene modification will
be pass on the next generation even, they don’t want to have that kind of trait. We don’t know
what will be the effect on this the next generation will affect the entirety of human beings in the
future. For example, this so-called body modification now that there are people who modify
their body to not look like humans more of unique species close to those what we see in the
moves that look like monsters. changing their skin color to blue tint and if ever this gene therapy
allowed for aesthetic purpose instead undergoing surgeries, they will undergo gene therapy to
be natural look and this gene will be pass on to their children even they don’t want it aside from
that they will destroy the natural arrangement of the genes and might have a long-term effect.
While if we used gene therapy for medical purposes it will help to get rid of this hereditary
deadly disease or severe illness to the next generation by changing the source of the disease cell
to a healthy one. The next generation will not be anxious anymore if they will accuse the same
disease of running in their family and the parents will not worry as well. We have this hereditary
disease in our family which is hypertension even at young age accruing but aside from that there
are a lot of our family members in an older generation who had cancer my grandfather had liver
cancer that is the cause of his death, as well as my grandmother, had breast cancer and three of
her sister had also breast cancer that is why my aunts and mother is anxious that they might
acquire that is why they are requiring to undergo mammogram when they turn 40 to detect it
earlier than never.
3. What do you mean by the statement "Your genes determine who you are”?
What my genes tell, tells who I am. If I am a computer my genes are like the computer codes,
the computer will function based on how it is a program by the codes. My genes determine who
I am. My genes contain my physical or characteristic traits that result from mixed or combined
genes of my parents. That is why I have my mother’s curly hair, but my father's height. I am
unique and different because of my genes. No one human being has the same gene
arrangement as me even my siblings, parents, grandparents, or ancestors. For example, my
fingerprints may be the same pattern as my parents but it has different details that make my
hand prints unique.
It is somehow my blueprints of a house it is the instructions that dictate what should the house
be built the same goes with my DNA or gene it is an instruction that dictates how will I look like
my hair color and type; eye and skin color been identified by my genes as well as illness or
conditions. My genes make me unique and different from the others, my gene can determine
my ancestors, my parents, grandparents, or even great grandparents. I can’t lie about the genes
that make me who I am. What everyone observed in my physical features is because of my gene
arrangement.
II. Word hunt/ Constructing Puzzle Read & organize concepts about the topic: Gene therapy, its
potential benefits and negative effects to global health besides its various forms will be considered.

1. How would you reconcile the advantages and disadvantages that GMOs bring to humans?
GMOs have a lot of benefits for us humans we gain from them in terms of agriculture and
medicines but we don’t truly know the full effects of this on humans and our environment and
that is when disadvantages will start. I think what we could do to reconcile these advantages
and avoid these advantages is to modify the disadvantages during the innovation the scientist
must first focus on the disadvantages rather than the advantages of it so that we will discover
what impacts and effects on this human and environment. Sometimes we focus on the
advantages more than the advantages which are why at the end of time we are the ones who
suffer. Yes, we benefit now but will suffer later on in life, maybe not us but the generation next
to us. Maybe one of the ways we could just do this is rather than using GMOs in food production
why not used them in advances of human activities like maybe natural modification rather than
chemical-based. Since we don’t know the effect of this GMO food on our health, we can’t
depend on it because it might be the start of the evolution of the new mutated diseases.
2. When do you think the pursuit of GMO research stop?
I think the pursuit of GMO research will never stop it will continue to progress especially with
the demand for food production and medicines due to continuous human population growth
around the world. Research is a never-ending process because this will us to adapt and survive
these environmental changes. We will need this GMO for medical purposes that will help cure
diseases, the disease that used to be uncurable now because of GMO it is treatable like in
certain diseases which as cancer. Not only that because of environmental changes because soil
today is not as healthy as before because of this chemical spray GMOs find a way for us to still
acquire vitamins and minerals that our body needs through fortification, for example, golden
rice which could be a good source of vitamin A. In terms of human consumption, food will be
able to sustain our foods that increase the harvest and faster growth due to GMO crops'
resistance to pests and diseases. Humans will continue to have this GMO process as long as they
benefit from it since at the moment there are no bad effects visible or without fully knowing all
the effects it may cause to humans and the environment. The only disadvantage here is the
uncertainty of its long-term effects.
3. Is genetic engineering a pure scientific process or it is indeed an act of humans playing like God?
Genetic engineering is a purely scientific process not an indeed act of humans playing like God.
Human knowledge and intellectual ability are limited there are things in the world that are
beyond the human intellectual ability to grasp and understand the certain phenomenon that
only God knows everything because He is the one who created the world. It is just our human
nature to seek the truth because we are naturally curious and connect everything we observed.
There are a lot of things humans still need to discover. Humans just innovate things on how we
can improve our lives and just our survival instinct. We tend to innovate things everything from
the beginning of human existence because we adjust to our environment. Genetic engineering is
just the application and innovation of the knowledge we conclude from all the experiments
conducted, tests, theories, and studies with the help also of technologies. For example, in the BT
corn process, the basic concept we know is the elements needed for corn to grow, and
discovering what are the hindrances for these plants to grow healthy first is the environment,
soil, and if there is a pest. We, humans, find solutions to that we research the factors that
decrease its growth, and we started to learn about pests and their life cycle and how this corn
will be resistant to the pest. Scientists run tests studying the corn and the pest and make
solutions.
4. Explain the ethical implications of GMOs and its future impact to society.
GMOs have a lot of ethical implications it might be a beneficial or potential risk. Let's start with
the benefits that we get from GMOs, higher efficiency in farming, as a result, there will be an
increase in harvest due to resistance to pests and disease and will be able to sustain food
production in the country or community. In this process, there will be a gene mutation in plants
to be resistant to pests and produce a good product. Another thing is GMO control infertility this
controls the purity of the hybrid seeds to ensure higher yields. This also increases food
processing because altered characteristics of crops help ease food processing. This also helps to
improve desirable characteristics if we wanted the fruit to increase its growth then its usual size
GMOs can make it possible. We could change also its color if we would like based on our
preference and also if we wanted it to grow fast. While in terms of nutritional and
pharmaceutical enhancement it modified plants fortified with certain minerals while there are
also now edible vaccines for viral and diarrheal diseases. However, there are also potential risks
in GMOs like human health at risk to unfamiliar foreign proteins that cause allergic reactions,
genes becoming resistant to antibiotics, some carcinogenic properties causing cancer, there are
also toxic compounds, there will be ethical concerns regarding religion because some it is
destroying God’s creation that we must preserve and take care what we naturally have. GMOs is
like surgery trying to change a person's physical appearance for improvements to reach beauty
standards that same goes for this plants or animal why to some religion this considers a sin or
immoral thing. That we should be contented with what is God-given. In terms of risk in the
environment, there would be a risk in gene flow, for example, this decaying GMO plant could
transfer the modified genes to the bacteria and fungi in the soil or any organism that is capable
of using genetic material from the surroundings that could absorb genes from the other
organisms. There would be an emergence of new forms of resistance and secondary pests and
weed problems and recombination of viruses and bacteria to produce new pathogens. While
there would also be a potential risk to the human health consumption of GMOs may have
adverse effects since it is not naturally or organically produced, may also alter the balance of
existing microorganism in the human digestive system, there would be also a production of
toxins that could be detrimental to human health and production of allergens may be adverse
effects on humans.
The impact of GMOs on society in the future the major concern that their would-be human
genome project ability to produce human genetic information would create biases and give
much power to people holding the information, their would-be mutation of genetically
engineered microorganism that modified bacteria and viruses may mutate to become resistant
or virulent that will be more dreadful disease for human beings. And there would be cloning –
the asexual reproduction of an organism using parent cell through genetic engineering.
Whenever I heard GMOs one thing that comes up to my mind was that plants in plants vs.
games. I’m so familiar I used to play that game when I was a kid. In the game, the plants seem
like different species based on their skills and abilities there was a plant that has like a monster
mouth, and every time the zombie came near, they eat it alive. I used to think if it is possible to
create live plants but I guess because of technology it is now possible could we know what are
the effects of this in long term.
II.
1. Agree or disagree. Choose a topic below and discuss briefly the topic according to your opinion.
I oppose the use of genetically modified milk from animals for human baby consumption, but
GMO milk is now used for human consumption for adults and even children, as well as for baby
consumption such as formula milk, especially for mothers who are unable to produce enough
breast milk for their babies. However, utilizing genetically engineered organisms might result in
unanticipated side effects or results. Certain alterations may produce an allergic response or
even toxicity in certain babies. I still believe that breast milk is the best option for infant intake
since it is healthier, more nutritious, and safer for the baby because it has all of the vitamins and
nutrients that the baby need. This will help avoid the baby from certain viruses and
diseases. Research work. Write an individual research paper on the impacts of GMOs on one of
the following topics.
2. There are several varieties of rice in the world, including black and brown rice, as well as white
rice, which is the most often consumed rice. But before we get started, let's define rice. Rice is
an edible starchy cereal grain and the grass plant (family Poaceae) that produces it. Rice is a
staple meal for about half of the world's population, including virtually all of East and Southeast
Asia; humans consume 95 percent of the world's rice production. Rice can be prepared by
boiling or crushed into flour. It is eaten alone as well as in a wide range of soups, side dishes,
and main courses in Asian, Middle Eastern, and other cuisines. Rice is also used in morning
cereals, noodles, and alcoholic drinks such as Japanese sake. We Filipino love to eat rice, the
meal is not complete without a bowl of rice we even sometimes love additional rice in our meals
because of that there’s a new variety of rice which is called Golden Rice why this new variety
came from is it a natural process or scientific process and how this becomes related to GMO?
GMO is a genetically modified organism, or GMO, is a plant, animal, microorganism, or other
organism whose genetic composition has been altered in a laboratory by genetic engineering or
transgenic technology. This results in plant, animal, bacterial, and viral gene combinations that
do not exist in nature or through standard crossbreeding procedures.
While, this new variety of rice called Golden Rice developed by the International Rice Research
Institute (IRRI) is a form of Genetically Modified Organism (GMO). This supplement existing
interventions to address vitamin A deficiency (VAD). VAD is a severe public health issue that
affects millions of children and pregnant women worldwide.
In South and Southeast Asian nations where rice accounts for at least half of daily calorie intake,
Golden Rice can aid in the battle against VAD, particularly among individuals who depend
heavily on rice for nutrition.
Golden rice is a new variety of rice with beta carotene (provitamin A, a plant pigment that the
body converts into vitamin A as needed). This chemical is responsible for the grain's yellow-
orange or golden hue, as well as its name.
Genetic engineering is used to create Golden Rice. While regular rice contains beta carotene, it
is not present in the grain. As a result, scientists employed genetic engineering to add the
molecule to the grain, a modest modification that increased the grain's nutritional worth. The
beta carotene in Golden Rice, made possible by the inclusion of two new enzymes, is similar to
the beta-carotene found in green leafy and yellow vegetables, orange-colored fruit, and even
numerous vitamin supplements and dietary components.
Golden rice is a novel rice strain that contains beta carotene (provitamin A, a plant pigment that
the body converts into vitamin A as needed). This chemical gives the grain its yellow-orange or
golden color, as well as its name.
Golden Rice is created by genetic engineering. While ordinary rice contains beta carotene, the
grain does not. As a consequence, scientists used genetic engineering to incorporate the
chemical into the grain, a little change that boosted the grain's nutritional value. The beta
carotene in Golden Rice, which was made feasible by the addition of two new enzymes, is
identical to beta-carotene found in green leafy and yellow vegetables, orange-colored fruit, and
even several vitamin supplements and dietary components.
Golden rice is an improved variant of regular rice that is aimed to address a specific nutritional
need without any additional expense or flavor difference.
While Golden Rice is projected to be the same price and flavor as conventional rice, its beta
carotene concentration makes it an important weapon in the fight against VAD. Vitamin A is a
necessary vitamin for growth, development, and maintaining the health of the body's visual and
immunological systems. If left untreated, VAD lowers the body's response to illnesses and
infections, causes blindness, and may ultimately result in death.
In countries where rice is a staple of nearly every meal, such as Bangladesh and the Philippines,
beta carotene-enriched Golden Rice can supply up to 30-50 percent of the estimated average
vitamin A requirement, particularly for the groups most vulnerable to VAD: preschool-aged
children and pregnant or lactating mothers.
This new type, known as the Golden Develop, is a GMO or genetically engineered food that
allows us to ingest rice that contains beta carotene, which is not normally found in rice and was
introduced to fight Vitamin A deficiency. That is the influence of GMOs in our society today: we
can now change plants for food production to tackle specific issues and utilize the resources that
we have with the use of new technology, making this sort of study and procedure possible.
However, everything is good but in moderation.
Individual Task #2
When Technology & Humanity Cross
I. Poster Making: create a poster about technology & family.
1. Do you really need technology in their lives? Is it really a necessity?
Technology has a great impact on the lives of humanity but in every advancement of technology, there
would always be advantages and disadvantages you might be a child, elder, student, professional,
parent, a youth every one of us benefits from it no matter what your status in society. As a student
technology is a great help especially in our continuous battle with covid because of it I could easily reach
out my concerns to my professors in just a second just by sending emails through my mobile phones I
could communicate. Technology also always me to be more creative because of the laptops we used
that contain different applications to make PowerPoint presentations instead of writing in a manila
paper it makes my work easier, faster, and efficient. I have also the privilege and easy access to many
resources from the internet to make case studies or research in just one click a lot of information will
flash before my eyes without any hassle. It is convenient when searching for the specific concept or
topic we wanted to know. There are also books available online today that could be downloaded to my
mobile phones and do not need to carry heavy books and the need to go to libraries that consume
energy. Technology become helpful nowadays for me as a student that I could continue my education in
a midst of lockdown and isolation because of the gadgets the mobile and laptop that I have.
2. Should there be an ethics of technology? Why?
Yes, there should be an ethics of technology without it we humans or the user will be the ones who will
suffer at the end of time. Ethics of technology is not only for the safety or security of this machine but
the safety of the human beings. If we are carefree and apathetic this technology will kill, steal, and
destroy us. The purpose and importance of ethics of technology are for us to be aware of what should
we do and not for us to preserve the sanity of our well-being. We already knew the effect and
consequences of this technology and that is already happening right now many lives have been
destroyed because of it, should we still have allowed it despite the happenings? Should we keep
ourselves blinded and decide to ignore it? Without the ethics of technology there will be chaos,
devastation, and wars, there would be no peace and harmony among the society or humanity leading to
divisions and not unity. That is the reason why we user is accountable for the technology because it will
always bounce back to us. The current problem facing now with technology is the social media, we have
given the freedom to upload or post anything we wanted online and some of it is attacking another
person to ruin their reputation and their lives. That is why we should be responsible for what we should
upload, think before we click because sometimes this simple argument online leads to violence and even
death. In terms of transportation, we have ethics in technology in using it we have traffic rules to follow,
getting licensed, should not drive when drunk, we should follow the always right to prevent road
accidents that could hurt other people.
3. Does the future need us? Explain Briefly
We never know what the future holds for us. But I would say, yes, because we are the ones who will
create and advance the technology and we are the ones who could control it. We still have the power
over we are the ones who used it and we will always have an option to control our own lives or to allow
the technology to take over our lives. We still have a rule to play in the future. This technology must not
ruin us but makes our life more comfortable, should be one who benefits from it not another way
around. Robots might be present but it won’t replace humans its either make us smarter and more
efficient. There would be realistic possibility of extinction because of competition from intelligent robots
like now we already have artificial intelligence. In the near future must of the many jobs will be replace
by robots such as the innovative farming, there would be service robots like waiters, soldiers, nurse,
doctors during surgeries. Technology just makes our jobs to have less work loads but could not totally
take over and eradicate us from the jobs we have and will just make lives easier and faster. There would
just have consequences like them would fewer social interactions and social skills instead increase
human – robot or machine interactions, isolation, there would also change in character development on
how we perceive towards life or change values and principle in life new ways of parenting technology
will raise the children more than the parents, loss of human intimacy couple will spend less and less time
actually talking with each other more time glued to their mobile phones, changing the ways of human
interaction. Instead to connect to each other will lead the human to disconnect to the real world.
1. What are the effects to society of the information technology?
There are plenty of effects of information technology in our society it could be positive and
negative effects. This information technology is beneficial to students, professionals,
businessmen, parents, and families. For a student like me, there is a lot of positive effect of
information technology I have better and easy access to any information without hassle in just
one click on the internet all the resources that I need will be flashed in front of my eyes without
needing to go to public libraries and cause my energy and fare. This is very beneficial for me
since we make research and case studies it saves my time and energy. It is convenient when
searching for the specific concept or topic we wanted to know. There are also books available
online today that could be downloaded to my mobile phones and do not need to carry heavy
books, especially now that the educational system has transitioned to online it is hard to buy
hardbound books or borrow from school libraries. Through information technology there are
available books online that we need for our course subjects, we just need a laptop or mobile
phone to open. This advancement in informational technology always me to be more creative
because there are PowerPoint templates ideas online, I could search for references on how to
make my presentations more presentable and engaging. However, there is always negative
effect to this not everything we found online is reliable and trusted. There are websites like
Wikipedia which is an editable website where you could change the information.
Aside from being a student information technology becomes beneficial also to parents especially
knowing that is a pandemic it is hard to raise a child in this situation since social interactions are
important to children. With this technological information, there are now vlogs about parenting
that could watch on YouTube and even on Facebook pages about parenting amid the pandemic.
This Facebook page’s mothers could share their experiences, tips, and ways how to deal with
their children. Sharing foods that are children-friendly makes the food more creative so that
they would eat it an example of this is turning vegetables to become ice cream.
We become update also to the latest news on what is happening to our country or their
countries.
Information technology is also beneficial to businessmen to boost and gain ideas on how to
make their products trendy and timely because of this they could also post their products online
calling this online marketing. This is also beneficial for those professionals or new graduates
because of information technology they would know what job offers suit them.
However, as I said there are also negative effects with information technology a lot experience
cyberbullying and even depression because of the pressure we see online, information anxiety,
loss of privacy because we share everything online now even our personal information is put in
danger, learning barriers student become dependent to the internet they less apt to remember
lectures because they know they can find it within seconds online. People become prone to
obesity because we saw a lot of foods now online that tempt us to eat and lastly lack of sleep
especially teenagers right now, spend a lot of time online they could access websites that are
not age-appropriate.
2. What are the responsible of the society in the usage of information technology?
The responsibility of society in the usage of information technology is to be careful of what we share
online that might lead to false information or form a misconception. Sometimes this also creates fear
and anxiety in everyone who would read it maybe sometimes could ruin someone's life or reputation.
To become a responsible user of information technology be wise and information literate before
believing investigate first or ask those experts regarding your concerns. Sometimes this information
could put us in danger. Most of the problems nowadays in terms of medical concerns are that people
don’t go to any medical facilities and ask for consultations with doctors instead they diagnosed their
health based on what they search online and self-medicate and this leads to the most severe
complications. There is nothing wrong with asking stuff that we don’t know or unfamiliar with, it is
better to be secure and safe.
There is some news I heard that there is a beauty product she saw online and a lot of people say it is
effective without double-checking if she is allergic or the product is strong. After she tried it her was
burned. That is why we should not believe everything we saw online. Check the reliability of web
sources who is the author of the article, who published the site, what is the main purpose of the site,
and why did the publisher post it. Is it to form awareness, informative, persuasive, or just to attack
someone, what is the quality of the information provided on the website is it timeless? When it is
published maybe that is not already applicable today.
We must use information technology to stop cyberbullying and ruining people's self-confidence because
of body shaming. Learn to respect anyone, be careful what we post and say online like inappropriate
words or videos that could be see by children. This could affect their mindset because children adapt,
they become what they see and observe, and that is why parents should be responsible for protecting
their children. They should monitor what is the website their children access and what they watch. This
information technology must ruin and destroy other people's lives sometimes the arguments online lead
to violence. Be an ethical user knowing what should not and should. Another thing doesn’t share
anything online even your personal information such as bank accounts, location, home address, etc.
protects your privacy and safety.
3. How does social media and the information age impacted our lives?
Social media have advantages and disadvantages. We could say that majority of the society have social
medias even children in pre-schools and elementary. The age of the user of mobile technologies now is
very young like around the age of six. The advantage of our social media now a day is to be updated on
the latest news, of what is happening in our country or other countries around the world. Aside from
that is for entertainment there are some videos we could watch online such as funny clips. Another one
is we could easily contact our loved ones especially when I was a student and studying in other places
this is helpful for me to get connected to them. To get updates on the life of one of our relatives who
lived on the other side of the world. This also allows us to have the opportunity to get to know other
people on the other side of the world or other places and be connected to those people that we didn’t
see for such a long time. This also helps us to search for any missing people and dogs, we experienced it
recently our dog escaped and because of that we immediately uploaded it to our social media and it
reached the person who found our dog and was able to bring our dog and safe and sound. Social media
help us also to choose better stuff like home appliances from recommendations and reviews of the
products. Sometimes I search on social media for trendy food that I could prepare but is budget-friendly,
I often search for recipes online especially sometimes the bonding with my cousins is baking. A lot of
people use social media to boost their business and to gain more customers or resellers. Not only that
social media allows us also to buy books and recommend better books to read. Through social media, I
could also have church services or mass in live streams without actually going to churches and just
staying at home with my family. For those who are drivers is also beneficial they will know which route is
traffic and will be able to avoid it. However, after all the good things here come the disadvantages,
people are prone to low self-steamed, insecurities, social anxiety, and depression, and because of this
will come suicidal attempts. As a result, cyberbullying receives negative comments, insults, harsh words,
body shaming, and even death threats online. People are prone to scams and hacking they invest and
entrusted your money to someone and in the end, those people will just vanish after they got your
property or money. Aside from that those who uploaded their home address and recently posted that
they are on vacation, this is a chance that their would-be thief will come to your house and see what
they could steal from you. This would create information anxiety for everyone especially if everything
we saw online is negative like wars, death, and chaos causing distress to someone that is why we need
to learn to filter out and lastly, cause lack of sleep we spend most of our time online and unable us to do
more important things this result to headaches and eyestrains and social media is mentally draining.
4. What is your personal stance (personal opinion) vis-à-vis (with regard to) Facebook? Cite at least
3 and discuss merits of internet.
My stance concerning Facebook has always been a good thing and a bad thing. Well, everything is good
but in moderation. Why it is beneficial for me because I’m far from my family which allows me to be
connected to them. There was a time when it is my birthday but I wasn’t able to be with them instead
we celebrated virtually. Allow me to get reunited with my friends through video calls. Aside from that
during the lockdown social media help somehow to cope. During the lockdown, I’m prone to anxiety
because I felt isolated and suffocated because I used to become an extrovert, and it's hard for me to
adjust to that kind of situation but social media somehow help alleviate my anxiety by watching funny
and entertaining clips but too much of social media trigger also my anxiety because of what I heard and
see online. There comes a point where I become insecure about myself because of social media. I lost
confidence that I’m not pretty enough to rich the beauty standards of society, I must have lighter and
fair skin and I started to try to buy whitening creams but just end up triggering my acne. Facebook also
helps me to buy home appliances, good quality home organizers, books, clothing, and recommended
foods to try. Lately, social media somehow help me choose who is the leader I wanted for our country
the one who will help not only me but every people citizen base on the program they share online and
the interviews they conduct. Aside from that social media allow me to meet a community of nursing
students that help me in my journey toward becoming an RN.
The merits of the internet are everyone could have this privilege and opportunity to have an access to
any information to bring awareness like news about the covid-19 progress, upcoming elections, or if
there are already face to face classes, educational purposes, entertainment, communication with loved
ones through video calls. The Internet has so many users like job applications, especially now must
professionals are working from home and student is known to conduct classes online and don’t have to
go to schools and spend fare. aside from terms of attending church services is possible online live
streams as well the funerals now become online for those relatives that could attend anymore because
of lockdown. Through the internet, we could now grocery online without going to the establishment,
fast food restaurants, and malls.

1. What are nanomaterials and how are they made of?
Nanomaterials are chemical compounds and materials that are composed of very tiny individual
units. Nanomaterials are defined as materials with at least one exterior dimension of 100
nanometers (nm) or less, or internal structures of 100 nm or less. Nanomaterials with the same
composition as recognized bulk materials may have differing physicochemical characteristics.
Nanomaterials are made up of nano particles, which are exceedingly tiny particles measured in
"nano-scale" units. They have been produced for commercial uses for decades. Recently, there
has been a lot of focus on nano particles, such as developing medications that can be delivered
directly into cancer cells via tiny particles. Nanoparticles is either came from naturally occurring
or man-made nanoparticles.
2. What are the factors that need to be considered before manufacturing
materials through nanotechnology?
One of the factors that need to be considered before manufacturing materials through
nanotechnology is the safety assessment such as risk characterization, hazard identification,
environmental risk, health risk, and human risk.
3. What are the contributions of nanotechnology for the improvement and sustainability
of our environment?
Nanotechnology is a field that has a lot of promise when it comes to saving the environment. It
could change how we try to solve global problems by cutting down on the amount of damage
we do. it has been possible to come up with clean sources of energy through the help of
nanotechnology. Nanotechnology can help solve a wide range of environmental problems. To
begin with remediation of pollution, most of the time, air pollution comes from things people
do, like burning fossil fuels. When fossil fuels are burned, they produce greenhouse gasses that
harm the Earth. has been possible to come up with clean sources of energy through
nanotechnology. Vehicles release a lot of carbon dioxide into the air, which makes the air dirty.
This is why most cars have nano-catalysts that turn harmful vapors into harmless gasses. In
addition, improve water quality nanoparticles can be used to help clean up water. Certain
nanoscale materials can make water pollutants harmless. it helps also to detect environmental
pollutants for example sensor detectors. Nanotechnology can help us in a variety of ways first by
enabling us to increase our water supplies. We can do that by reducing the contaminants both
salt and other contaminants from our water in addition nanotechnology can help us to assess
the environment much more accurately and quickly than we could do previously for example
novel sensing devices now can detect at very low concentrations many different contaminants
at one time and also are smart so that they can trigger an action and close a water source for
example if a contaminant is detected and finally nanotechnology can help us to do things green
so that we design our product and our devices with this little material in the beginning as
possible and also so that it enables more recycling and less waste at the end.
Aside from that, there will be the development of benign industrial processes and materials,
especially in Information Communication Technology ICT.
4. How do science and technology advancements in Nanotechnology help the
development of the Philippine nation?
Advancements in Nanotechnology take part in the development of the Philippine nation. To begin
with, it helps to produce better products in terms of Computer Technology that helps connect our
nation. It has led to faster, smaller, and more portable systems that can manage and store larger
amounts of information system around the country because of nanotechnology despite this
pandemic we could continue to work in our homes and conduct our classes with the use of this
technology through the use of nanotechnology these nanoparticles or microchips that build up our
mobile phones and laptops. Aside from that, it will offer more jobs in the country. With the
increasing need for nanoparticle uses in various fields of food science and food microbiology, such
as food processing, food packaging, functional food development, food safety, detection of
foodborne pathogens, and shelf-life extension of food and/or food products, nanotechnology
applications have emerged. This helps in the economic growth of the nation as well as provides
enough resources for food for the whole country by providing a shelf-life extension of food products
in able to sustain the nation. This help also reduces product waste or food waste and will be
consumed efficiently. In addition, nanotechnology's contribution in terms of medicines helps for the
treatment of disease prevention such as vaccines and administration. Helps in better imaging and
diagnostic tools as well as early detection of disease to combat mortality rate.

Research on the recent innovations or advancements in nanotechnology in different
countries (at least 2 innovations). Include pictures and provide descriptions.
Self – Energy Converting Sunglasses
This 'Self-Energy Converting Sunglass' is the newest idea by Hyun-Joong Kim and Kwang-Seok Jeong to
generate electricity for tiny electronics. This multipurpose sunglass features dye solar cells created using
nano technology and lenses to convert sun light into portable electrical energy. This may power tiny
electronics through a power connection at the back of the frame.
The glass does not have any battery and is very simple. This is just a concept because the designers have
envisioned a sort of solar cell dye, made up out of tiny solar transistors, assembled with nano-
technology to power mini gadgets which consume very low wattage.
The Self-Energy Converting Sunglasses (SIG) collect energy through the solar panels and connect to your
iPod, mobile phone or PDA via a power jack in the back of the frames. According to Chris Burns at Yanko
Design, the creators describe the dye solar cell in the SIG as “cheap organic dye [used with] nano
technology [providing] cheap but high energy efficiency.”
Superflexible Chips that Can Encircle a Strand of Hair
Swiss scientists have created nanotech-based electronic chips that are so flexible they can be wrapped
around a hair strand. Based at ETH Zürich, the researchers were able to accomplish this feat by creating
thin layers of stacked polyvinyl that are topped with an electronic circuit. When submerged in water,
two of the polyvinyl layers dissolve, leaving a tiny circuit embedded in a sheet of parylene that is one
micrometer thick. The researchers found that the transistors still function when wrapped around a
human hair. The flexible electronics can adhere to a range of materials. Potentially suited for wearables
and a whole range of medical applications, the chip has already been used in an artificial eye and in a
glaucoma monitor.
Folk says, "The whole wearables space, you know, FDA's offered some good and clear guidance on
phone apps. Where we are right now, wearables are generally a combination of accelerometers,
gyroscopes and compasses. This is current technology; a lot of it is determined by the price point.
There's actually a lot more that you can do, in terms of measuring things in a lot more sensitive fashion,
but we're waiting for the price point to come down."
"Wearables are the area everybody's talking about now," Folk said. "There's some cynicism
understandably, but I think the capabilities of wearables are going to increase pretty rapidly. Then there
are a lot of technologies that have been incubating for a long time. I think we'll start to see those roll out
here over the course of the next few years. Some really cool, really different things are on the way. I
think it's an area of tremendous innovation right now: I think that's really exciting."
