I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the people who have been my
instruments in this successful completion of my portfolio. I would like to show my greatest
appreciation to Prof. Juvy M. Agbayani. I can’t say thank you for her support and help. I feel
motivated and encouraged every time I attend to her lecture. Without her encouragement
and guidance this portfolio would not be done.
With deepest gratitude and appreciation, I humbly give thanks to the people who
helped making our Teaching Internship a possible one.
To the Yumbing National High School, faculty, staff, for allowing us to become a part
of the family.
To our cooperating teachers,Filpina A. Redera, Alona G. Acot, Leyte M. Gadgude, for
being kind and supportive and for always guiding and motivating us.
To our parents who provided our needs financially and morally, for their patience
and understanding during our intern days
To the faculty and staff of the Institute of Teacher Education, especially to my
mentor Ms. Jenevev B. Naybe who never gets tired of teaching me and helped me to
develop my strengths and overcome my weaknesses.
To my classmates, and friends, for the inspiration and support to continue with our
journey.
Above all, to our Almighty God, for his unconditional love and for all the blessings I
received every day. For helping me overcome all the trials that I encountered. For giving me
enough knowledge in every teaching demonstration. By his grace, I will be able to complete
my teaching internship journey.
Teacher Intern
Introduction
Welcome to my portfolio. I am Jowelyn B. Maderal a student of
Camiguin State College, under the course Bachelor of Secondary Education
major in Technology and Livelihood Education.
I choose to be a teacher because I want to make a difference. I could
have chosen a different field where I could serve the society but I think that
education is the right field where I could fully realize this goal.
My experience in off-campus training made me realized that teaching
needs time patience, understanding, compassion, passion and optimism.
Teaching is a profession that one cannot be taken for granted, sometimes it is
frustrating and exhausting, but these are taken away by just one small smile of
a child.
I present this for you to read about my philosophy of teaching and
experiences during my Practice Teaching/Off-Campus Training. My goal is to
show you my strengths that would make me an effective teacher.

Fourth demo
The fifth demo is done, still my mentor did not lack to remind me to improve
my demo teaching delivery. And to master my lesson very well. So I would not be
nervous. Because nervousness arise when I did not know my lesson very well. And
also never forget to remind to give enthusiasm in teaching so my student is not
sleepy, and not bored on my subject. This kind of thing is what I have to work hard
for me to improve.

Reflection
Reflection to the Cooperating School
Teachers are the model of students. Students listen to them, follow what they say
and sometimes obey them more than parents. Teachers as students model need to be a
paragon of virtues. They have to live what they teach and be a good example to the
students who are following them. They are being looked up by people around them and the
community. So they have to live in the norms and conducts of a good teacher.
As a would-be teacher, I need to prepare a lesson plan that fits to the learner’s level,
needs, interest, teaching situations, and the teacher’s understanding of how learner’s learns
best, the time and the resources available. Lesson planning is very important in the lives of
the teachers because it helps them conduct lesson in an orderly fashion and it allows
students to know what they are going to learn and on how it fits into their needs.
At this time of pandemic it is frustrating to conduct an off campus teaching without a
student. And we have to adjust our modes of learning.
After each demonstration teaching, I realized that teaching isnt an easy job. It
requires our full dedication , love, and compassion on the profession and the learners.
Teachers cannot teach what they do not know. And i teaching, things that should be taught
must be good, true and correct.
My cooperating teachers Maam Alona G. Acot, Leyte M. Gadgude and Filipina A.
Redera are my mentors for three weeks. They realy guides me and lets me experience the
actual teaching-learning settings. Virtual and face to face. I had many learnings acquired for
the both of them, especially in enhancing my teaching strategies and [Link]
also thought me online activity like the kahoot, [Link], minimeter and I learned a real
life task which will have to know how to perform in a sooner future when I start teaching.
I really enjoyed teaching and practicing my profession in my cooperating school
because teachers, faculty, and staff welcomed and accepted us wholeheartedly, especially
to our cooperating teachers. Yumbing National High School has a standard education. Most
teachers of Yumbing National High School are truly great and dedicated teachers, teachers
whom I find very inspiring. They are always there to guide and mentor us student teachers
in terms of difficulties. They always give their time, patience, kindness and most of all their
help and support.
This day I fully realize that I am really meant for teaching profession because of the
unfogetable experiences that I had encountered during the field study courses, especially
the actual teaching experience.I am thankful to be a teacher. The simplest answer to the
question “why” is because I love it. I love it because it helps me to grow as a human being. It
had created meaning in my life. Indeed it is a dailyrealization.
This day I have to showcase my newly found strategies from my in campus mentoring and
apply it here in the real world of teaching with my Dep Ed critic teacher. It so happen that the lesson
plan that I prepared is not so coincide with the lesson plan that the Dep Ed had. But my Critic
teacher let me follow the lesson plan that i used to while im in my in-campus demontration
teaching. As I finished my demonstration teaching, my critique teacher noticed that the font
size I used is small and she told me that I have to expand my font so the student at the back
will clearly see and read on my power point presentation. She also introduced to me the
format of their lesson plan in Dep Ed and explain it to me the flow of their lesson plan. I am
happy of what I have learned from my Critique teacher.
DOMAIN 2
A conducive learning environment bring about a fun, interesting and meaningful learning process,
whereby students anticipate attending the lessons while teachers anticipate deliberating the lessons
passionately.
My experience in Yumbing National High School have prepared me in so many ways. I have learned
that the classroom lay out is one of the most important factors of becoming an effective teacher. It
takes careful planning and consideration to create a classroom environment which is safe and
encourages meaningful learning for all student.
Throughout my off-campus journey, I have had the opportunity to learn about classroom libraries,
differentiated instruction and classroom strategies which will help me visualize how I will create my
own future classroom. Most importantly, I hope to form a safe environment in which leraning can
flourish for each and every student.
DOMAIN 3
Lessons in life are always learned in a variety of ways. From personal experiences to lessons inside a
classroom, people all learn valuable insights that help them live and lead more positive, more
successful lives. A few lessons that all people need to learn and give light towards are ones having to
do with being able to cope within society. Because of the fact that our society is ever-changing,
people have to learn to identify, to understand and to accept diversity.
During my off campus teaching, my critique teacher told me it is not about what you teach to
students it is how you go about teaching them. Then there was a time that when YNHS conducted
their LAC session we were invited to be their students I happened to notice that a teacher made an
effort to get her students to say something nice to someone else every time the student answer the
question. I liked how the students and teachers said nice things to one another it showed me that
they respect one another. I feel that teachers should try to control the way their students act toward
others in the classroom to where everyone feels that they are special in their own unique way.
As a future teacher, I know you must have patience and determination to get your students
attention. I will try to make sure that each one of my students are treated just like everyone else. I
know it will be tough to try to facilitate each of my students needs based upon their strengths and
weaknesses but I will do my best. I will try to incorporate each of my student’s culture and ethnic
beliefs into my lessons. I feel that my students will benefit from learning things about one another
and their family heritage. Now if I have students who are struggling in the classroom that have a
disability I will try to find ways that will make it a little easier in the classroom.
In conclusion, I feel that Diversity is everywhere and that will never change because that is the way it
should be it is beneficial to children. I feel that many of us must be that positive person in a student’s
life to help them really see how you should treat others that may look and act differently. I
feel that teachers should be the ones who should get the credit for trying to change the way their
students show respect to others. I feel that students are the future and it is my job to prepare them
for it. I feel once that a student makes the effort to change is when others will change as well.
Teacher’s I feel have that special spark in each one of them that can make their students excited
about learning.
DOMAIN 4
School cannot exist without the curriculum. A school is put up to be an institution of guidelines, an
institution for educating children into the knowledge they have to attain for the sake of survival in
the world of community they live in.
Furthermore, without curriculum, a school is worthless or of no use. The establishment that consists
of subjects to be taught during the whole school year, the amount of each lesson to be taught, the
materials to be used during the lesson, the textbooks, the schedule of exams and test to be taken,
the due of paper works, projects and the programs to be made during and in between school days -
all of these, is what we called the curriculum.
Therefore, a school is made up of and diverse of curriculum and the school is made known because
of its curriculum.
Curriculum is the heart of my [Link] is how essential, valuable and important curriculum is to
me as a future teacher. How can I know what to teach, how to teach and why to teach if i don't have
the curriculum. It is my guiding light to lead the learners to the essentials that they should
[Link] curriculum, I can know when to give them a certain lesson, when to let them have the
test and exams. I can know when to give them practical evaluations. In it, I can evaluate my students
and assess them into which level they have achieved, have been achieving and will be achieved.
DOMAIN 5
Assessment practices play an important role in the field of teaching. They not only show what
students have learned but also provides vital information as to the effectiveness of a lesson, unit, or
curriculum. A variety of assessment techniques must be used to determine student knowledge.
Involving students in the assessment process helps them see how their knowledge has progressed
and provides motivation and pride to push them on in their journey of obtaining knowledge.
I believe it is important for learners to see how much they have learned over a long period of time.
Sometimes I was wondering how harsh/lenient should I assess my students. Being too strict may
diminish students’ interest and participation in the class, but being too flexible can also decrease
students’ engagement in the class. Therefore, I apply differentiation and come out with different
types of assessment that cater for different learner.
DOMAIN 6
As the role of the teacher is to educate and guide the students to grow as an individual, so is it with
the community. The community has a duty to educate and guide the people in it. In fact,
communities need to have some guidelines for their development in terms of economic growth,
infrastructure development, social awareness and human resource development. A good community
is always a sign of good education at all levels.
Of my many years in college going in and out of the school I have been observed that teachers has a
lot of responsibilities in community. The biggest responsibility of any educator is to educate people
about how they can help build their community, country and world into better places for all its
inhabitants, not just themselves or their family members. The role of teachers as citizens includes
participating in debates about important issues affecting communities, contributing ideas about
ways to solve problems and making sure that children get enough information on how they can
become responsible citizens one day when they grow up. Teachers also need to educate themselves
on issues that may affect them or their students as well as other community members such as
discrimination, violence, and prejudice against others who may be different from themselves
because this will help them understand what their responsibilities are as educators and leaders who
will play an important part in shaping future generations into better citizens than themselves.
With these, I realized how are the teachers very influential and how teachers greatly influence the
community through their students. As a future teacher and as the influencer of my student, I will not
be lacking to share the lessons and inspiration to my students that could help them improve
themself and in the community in which where my students live. I must set as an example in good
deeds so my student will know how to communicate others the way it should be.
DOMAIN 7
On my field study journey, I assign my students in group and give them problem-solving task.
This encourages my students to discuss with others and sharing some ideas.I also gives individual
assignment to my students to discuss about certain topic, where i ask them to reflect about the
things they have been learned.
My teaching Philosophy
Education is for everybody. All of us were given a chance to be educated if we are just willing to
finish a level or degree in college. Even a vendor can be educated if he/she knows how to value
education by working so hard. Working while schooling is the best perspectives in life. Valuing
education means we are always ready to face any obstacles in life whether we belong to a wealthy
family or as a commoner. Nowadays' education really suits for every one as long as we give much
time to it. Modular or Online learning are just having a common denominator and that is to receive a
diploma to succeed, then we must learn how to handle our schooling following protocols provided
by the government. During my times, Poverty is not the hindrance to our success. Just enjoy your life
in schooling and everything flows so well.
In this chapter, I learned about various educational philosophies. Through my experienced way back
in my school years and when I envision the kind of teacher I want to be, I will have a progressivism
teaching style. I believe that students should be able to have an input in their learning to a certain
subject matter. Together with me and my students should collectively negotiate what we learn in the
classroom. I believe majority of the time should be focused in creating the learning environment.
However, I feel that students should be able to choose specific content of the subject matter or
areas they want to study in a particular class topic. Students need to know how to solve problems
instead of becoming encyclopedias of knowledge. I clearly offer choices and options, vary my
teaching strategies, personalize knowledge by associating the curriculum with real life issues and
problems to gain the focused attention of the students. That educational philosophy were anchored
on the theory that students learn best by doing and active teaching encourages active learning.
Principles in Teaching
Before taking this course, teacher professionalism, to me, meant being knowledgeable, dressing
professionally, speaking and acting in an appropriate way, and teaching the course content to your
students in an effective way. Professionalism is all of that, but it is also so much more. In this course,
I have learned the importance of reflecting on daily lessons, learning through professional
development opportunities, and teachers who are organized and can manage their time efficiently.
It is difficult to sum up professionalism, as it encompasses so much, but to me, a professional
teacher is one who is always striving to learn more and wants to do their very best to provide a
healthy learning environment for their students. Teachers who strive to excel every day all have one
thing in common; they reflect on their teaching.
As an active member of social institutions, my participation helps our society to survive. My family
plays an important role in my personality development and my first exposure to society. My
education taught me skills and knowledge. No matter what our religion, the purpose of this
institution is the same and this is to contribute positively to our society. I'm currently engaged in
banking economic institutions to make a living and support my family. Lastly, our government that
allows citizens to exercise civil rights and liberties.
Principles in Teaching Chapter 7
To be called as teacher in the future is already a big challenge for me. How much more to be a global
teacher. It placed greater demands to teachers in today's school. Teachers in multicultural settings
have special educational opportunities and responsibilities. One of the most important task for
educators in the worlds today is to help students to learn about the rich variety of people in our
multicultural world and the important world problems that face our planet. It may sounds really
difficult but teachers always take challenges. As long as we have good interpersonal relationship, we
can clarify our perspective of this multicultural education. And, someday as a 21st century educator I
will model tolerance, acceptance and a wider view with that just our curricula areas, global
awareness, and reflections. I will plan activities with a multicultural framework while making my
classroom a safe and a secure place for my students.
In the world we live in, technology is literally everywhere and the kids adapt to it more than anyone
else. Unlike teachers, students are being raised in a digital world. For students of all ages, it is
absolutely natural to use technology in every aspect of their lives. This is why digital tools in
classroom are becoming more and more crucial. Traditional methods for teaching are already going
through a transformation to adapt to the needs of 21st-century students and to enhance the
professional practice of teachers. The digital future is literally happening now. Using technology for
education provokes student’s curiosity, boost their engagement, and leads to better learning and
comprehension. These factors are a priority for every effective teacher and today they can be easily
achieved by using digital tools in classroom. Here are some of the latest and greatest inventions in
computers and digital media which can be of great help today: Projectors, Websites and Blogs, Audio
and Video, Computers, Tablets, Mobile Devices and Social Networks. With these tools, innovative
teachers can save time and money because of the easy access to course materials. For students,
they are motivated by computer based, screens and digital materials and technology aided
instruction. Technology is a friend of education and there is no reason to fight this trend. Right on
the contrary, by incorporating digital tools in classroom, you become an effective school leader who
fosters innovation.
Education is very important in everyone, but not all has the opportunity to finish and earn their
diplomas. To the Filipino, knowledge is acquired through education. Although they generally agree
that education can be obtained inside and outside school, they believe that the primary sources of
knowledge are the schools. Thus, building a strong foundation when it comes to education the
government always there to set a law to make it effective for everyone.
As such, Republic Act No. 4670 otherwise known as “The Magna Carta for Public School Teachers”
was passed into law in view of providing professional rights and safeguards to our public school
teachers in consideration of the exigency and level of difficulty of the exercise of their profession.
However, the said law has which was signed on June 18, 1966 remains untouched for more than half
a century now exhibits weaknesses that hamper the improvement of the social and economic status
and working conditions of our public school teachers. The need for modifications and amendments
to strengthen the law is in order. This bill seeks to amend the aforementioned law to make the said
measure more responsive by expanding public school teachers working rights, strengthening
working protections and safeguards and providing additional incentives for extra-curricular work.
As I have read the article “Teacher Evaluation and Teacher Quality”, it serve as my eye opener of the
situation about teaching evaluation. This article explores the causes and consequences of the crisis
in teacher evaluation. The primary purpose of teacher evaluation is to improve teaching practice,
which results in increased student achievement. Sad to say that the troubled state of teacher
evaluation is focused on public education. It is said that public education is stiil have this typical
“drive by” evaluations. This means that they only focus the outer part of the teacher like “Is
presentably dressed”, “starts on time”, “room is safe”, and “The lesson occupies the students”.
Which made their evaluation in to squandered. Principals use evaluations to help teachers improve
their performance as rarely as they give unsatisfactory rating regardless of wether their student
learn. It is also said that public education defines teacher quality largely in terms of the credentials
that teacher have earned, rather than on the basis of the quality of the work they do in their
classroom or the results their students achieve.
By knowing and understanding after reading the article and all about teachers evaluation, so sad
that it is half true, because not all public education have this kind of practices, the traditional way of
evaluating a teacher. There are also lots of public education that follows the real process of
evaluating a teacher and that their focused is learner centered. And that I am hoping that these
practice will be also observe to other public education.
I also have come to understand that in order to avoid this method, a comprehensive methods of
evaluating teachers had been promoted. The Teacher Advancement Program (TAP) is a good
example. TAP is a comprehensive program to strengthen teaching through intensive instructional
evaluations, coaching, career ladders, and performance-based compensation, thus increase the
realibility of evaluations. Teachers are more likely to trust, places to grow unlike traditional teacher
evaluations.
Learning theories are one of the foundations of education and influence the climate and
activity within classrooms. They explain how learning occurs and factors that influence learning.
They also afford us variety in pedagogies. The learning theories help to enhance student
development and understanding. The learning theories are behaviorism, constructivism, cognitivism
and humanism
Active learning is a key part of the Constructivism. If the materials are useful and beneficial
to them, they will be likely to master it. Conversely, if the materials are irrelevant, they will be likely
not going to learn it. Student should actively understand the learning materials rather than passively
absorbing and memorizing it. The students should be able to construct their own understanding and
building on what the student already knows. They make connections between new information and
old information.
In this rapid-changing world, as the skills, knowledge and needs of students change, so does the role
of the teacher. Since students spend most of the time with the teacher, teacher often considered as
a guider, mentor, adviser, role model or friend. Apart from knowledge expert, a teacher must
demonstrate positive ethnics and qualities. These qualities can be reflected in his thought, speech
and behavior and students were expected to learn it. A teacher can also share his personal
experiences with students and give assistance, advice, suggestions when the students are facing
personal problems. As quoted by John Dewey "If we teach today's students as we taught yesterdays,
we rob them of tomorrow", because yesterday’s education is no longer effective for tomorrow's \
students. In view of this, the role of teacher must change in order to adapts to the needs of today’s
culture.
